i hate my bfs music taste (24F and 30M)

how do you navigate having such a different music taste from your partner??

i have been with my boyfriend for 5 years, and we have a lot in common, but we also have differences between us in terms of our interests and i always try to remain curious/supportive of his likes. however… i CANNOT get past his music taste. it genuinely makes my stomach hurt and i feel horrible about it lol. i’m someone who will listen to just about anything, i like indie, pop, rock, alternative, rap, edm, even country *sometimes*. i just cannot listen to heavy metal/screamo. and guess what my bf’s favorite genre is……😅.

i hate when he plays music in the car. it’s so hard to listen to. i never shame him for it though, i suffer in silence. and i love music so much and i wish it was an area that we could enjoy together and i could send him all the songs that remind me of him and that he would actually listen to and like them. it also makes things like concerts hard because he’s invited me to concerts before and i just do not have it in me to go. he also doesn’t like to go to concerts with me either. any advice on how to manage this??

edit: wanted to add a silly fun fact, the only concert we’ve gone to together because we both like the artist is olivia rodrigo hahah i suppose she appeals to the metalheads too

when is play therapy just playing?

to start off - i am not a certified play therapist, just play therapy informed!

i have a few clients who i utilize play therapy techniques with and they’re much younger (5/6) and i find myself feeling “stuck” as the therapist, wondering if they are just playing or if something deeper is happening/will happen? of course, i know that play is children’s language and there is no “right” way to do it. and i can hop in to hone in on skills like emotional regulation when i see the opportunity. but on the therapist side of things i dont know if im doing enough to transform the play into process. making it more clinical i guess? it doesnt feel like we’re exploring many themes and it stays surface-level consistently. maybe i’m trying to rush it and the play really is enough! i do believe that the relationship between client and therapist is the true intervention in each session, but i sometimes feel pressure to again “make it more clinical” for the purpose of completing notes and such. any advice?

why are so many redditors so miserable?

i swear to god you can’t have fun on here 😭 you ask the most light hearted things and get shamed to oblivion for things that weren’t even part of the equation. so many people on here just have this ego and snarkiness to them and it’s sad. i used to love reddit because of how limitless it is and how you can truly find unbiased answers to any and everything. now it’s just low vibrational and mean lol why is it so negative?????

cancellations on simple practice

why does simple practice still send clients reminders for a session that has been cancelled? one of my clients are out of town next week and i cancelled that session like 2 weeks ago, but they just messaged me a little annoyed saying i need to cancel this appointment and that they got a notification reminding them to come?

i made sure it says on the calendar for that session “CNCL Cancelled Appointment - No charge”.

under billing it does say appointment total $0 and client owes $35, but client balance $0? idk i’m confused and still getting used to this site

tracking hours

when you get licensed as an associate/new social worker (lcswa here in NC) how do you track your “indirect” hours?

for example, documentation. i feel like this can vary so much from person to person. is there kind of a standard as to how long you should put in whatever your tracking your hours on for documentation? when i first started, completing CCA’s and tx plans would take me like almost 2 hours (i was def overdoing it) and now it doesn’t take long. would i put 2 hours in my log?

i know some supervisors dont even allow stuff like documentation to count towards your licensure hours so i feel like there is SO much ambiguity when it comes to this lol

(2024 toyota camry LE) what is this called? where do i get it?

what the title says. i got my oil changed a while ago at the toyota dealership and a few weeks later i noticed that plastic cover (second pic) hanging really low under my car. i had my dad look at it and he said the screws that keeps it up fell out? he zip tied it up for the time being until i took it in.

went to walmart auto center and they said i needed to bring in 3 more of that single piece for them to screw it in because they didn’t have it. what is this called and where can i get it? do i have to specially order it online or will it be at an autozone or a place like that? they left the cover in my trunk until i bring it back in with these pieces

adjustment disorder

i’m a social worker (lcswa in nc) and throughout my time in grad school i had a few professors talk about how unless a diagnosis was blatantly obvious and unique, they would just diagnose their clients with adjustment disorder and wait until they got to know them a little better and then change the diagnosis.

at my current job, im seeing that trend too. i submit my assessments and treatment plans to my supervisor with a particular diagnosis that seems clear to me, and she will often tell me to change it to adjustment disorder to not have that other diagnosis (like GAD or OCD) on the clients record (i work with kids)

is this a normal thing that happens with adjustment disorder? i was always under the impression that it would only apply if symptoms are occurring within 3-6 months of a stressor or change but maybe im misunderstanding

imposter syndrome is driving me crazy

i graduated in may and am now an lcswa working at a group private practice. this was the the first and only job i applied to and i was pretty shocked to have gotten it!

as soon as i started, imposter syndrome hit me like a truck and it will not go away. i’ve only been here about 3 weeks, but i feel sooo out of my depth and like “wtf am i doing” towards everything. i feel like im playing pretend in someone else’s clothes 😫 i have always wanted to do this work and can’t imagine being in another field. i know im good at it because ive formed such good relationships with previous clients and was always praised by supervisors. but now that i dont have the safety net of being an intern or student, i feel like im kinda lost

i’m comparing myself to others who seem to have gotten into the groove so easily and im over here asking a million questions about everything to make sure im understanding. and all i heard though my last year of grad school was “oh find your niche” and i haven’t got the slightest clue what my niche is. i actually dont want to hear the word “niche” ever again lol

and i feel like grad school taught me nothing :/ in hindsight it was like the same information over and over and although i was in a clinical program, we never really learned how to do sessions and incorporate the modalities into hour long sessions. we practiced intake session a million times though 😒 im done rambling but this is really kicking my butt lately and i just want to feel competent again 💔

rookie question about reauthorizations

i’m an lcswa starting at a group practice (first job out of grad school) and was curious about reauthorizations. how often are they supposed to be done typically? how do you know when they are supposed to be done?

also- same question for service orders! the handbook at my practice states associate level clinicians should know when service orders are needed and should complete them promptly. but this is so new to me and i’m not super sure.

of course i’ll ask my supervisors and everything but ive been asking so many questions with me just starting so i wanted to check with you guys here in case i could reduce the amount of questions lol

working with teens

how do you all navigate conversations with teens where they’re expressing feelings of frustration and not being heard by their parents and it’s over disagreements over “normal” things? like i have a teen that doesn’t want to do any chores because they’ve been in school all day. and i validate that they’re probably tired and school can be a lot physically and mentally. but it’s not really addressing the issue they’re sharing with me and i don’t know how to do it because (this might sound bad but i never express it in sessions) i feel like it’s standard for older kids to clean up after themselves around the house and it doesn’t seem like too much to ask? i’ve had a few family sessions where issues like that come up and we work out some type of schedule but i guess i just struggle one on one with the child because im not super sure of what to say!

comedy zone

hi! i’m wanting to go to a comedy show in september at the comedy zone. i’ve never been before and was reading over the website and i saw that it says “seats are only guaranteed until showtime”. what does that mean? lol, it’s letting me go to check out with 2 tickets but when i read that i interpreted it as first come first serve for seats even if you have tickets?

anything i should know about the place before going?

what was your journey into private practice?

i’m at a group private practice now and i do think my end goal is to have my own private practice, but i want to get a few more years and some experience under my belt. and a better understanding of insurance lol.

i’d love to hear peoples stories of how they got into private practice, what the process was like, is it worth it? it seems so intimidating but so many people do it, so i know it’s not impossible

what’s the catch with these jobs?

i’m an LCSWA in NC and have a job, but every once in a while i like to go on indeed to see what my options are for when i’m fully licensed. i always see job postings like these (it’s always from the same companies) amongst job positions offering max 70k. what’s the catch with these??? what do you actually make here? they obviously sound too good to be true and i’m not experienced enough to understand it yet lol

if you’re a supervisor, what do you count as hours?

i’ve started a new position at a group private practice (i’m in NC as an lcswa) and met with my supervisor recently.

she let me know that she doesn’t count time spent on documentation towards our licensure hours. i knew that this varies based on supervisors preferences, but it sucks that mine feels this way lol 😫😫🤣

i don’t get paid for documentation even as a W2 employee because i’m fee for service so i only get paid for billable hours. so it stinks that this time doesn’t even count towards my 3000 hours.

i’m curious for those who are supervisors, what do you count as hours for your associates?

2024 toyota camry - there’s a weird smell when i turn on my car

over the last month i’ve noticed that when i turn my car on this mildewy smell just comes out full force and goes away after about a minute. at first i thought maybe something soaked into my seats (it’s been hot, maybe sweat idk?) but i smelled the seats and they were fine, and i cleaned them with a wet vac and dried it completely. the smell is still there!!! my air filter looked clean, so im really not sure what the source is?

what do you get a dad who has everything

my dad is really hard to shop for, anything he wants he gets for himself, and he rarely wants anything!

he loves soccer (world cup tickets out of the budget lol), watches a lot of TV and movies, has a green thumb, is into traveling (we’re from bosnia), likes trying new foods. he’s just so calm and nonchalant about everything it’s hard to get him excited over a gift but he’s always appreciative of what we’ve gotten before

also, all the typical “dad” gifts like grilling tools, golf stuff, beer, watches, wallets, just don’t hit for him!

any ideas?
