[Scotto] Due to lack of buyers, the Pelicans have recently lowered Trey Murphy's asking price from 4 first round picks to 3

>Following the blockbuster Jaylen Brown trade, there are those within league circles wondering if New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III will be the next big trade domino to fall.

>Before this past trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and Los Angeles Lakers called to express interest in trading for Murphy, as previously reported by HoopsHype.

>Some teams have faded from the Murphy trade conversation. Indiana got Ivica Zubac before the trade deadline. Portland acquired Ja Morant. San Antonio went to the NBA Finals and has since agreed to deals with forwards Harrison Barnes and Tobias Harris in free agency. The Lakers just made a flurry of offseason moves.

>Teams that are in the mix for Murphy to varying degrees now are the Celtics, Pistons, Warriors, Clippers, and Hawks, league sources told HoopsHype.

>The Celtics have monitored Murphy’s trade market, and following the Brown trade for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks, they have gained extra draft capital that New Orleans has desired in any trade talks.

>The Pistons have consistently circled the wagons on Murphy in trade talks, but felt the price was too high. With the asking price dropping from the equivalent of four to three first-round picks in any Murphy trade talks recently, will Detroit have more of an appetite to make a trade following the loss of Tobias Harris in free agency?

Cam Thomas last year rejected a 2 year 30 million dollar contract offer to bet on himself. He was later waived by the Nets and Bucks and hasn’t been on a team since March

It’s crazy that Cam was looked at as a franchise cornerstone a year ago and is already potentially out of the league. He may get one more chance but the contract won’t be nearly as good as he had it

Darius Acuff’s debut: 25/3 on 9/29 shooting (1/9 from 3)

Rough game from Acuff in terms of scoring efficiency. He did assist on the game winner though

Darryn Peterson Summer League debut: 28/5/2 on 11/21 shooting and 4/7 from 3

Feel like this game was the perfect DP experience, truly ridiculous scoring talent from all levels but also 2 assists to 8 turnovers (Including a bad one in the clutch)

Also on the other side was Kingston’s Flemings. Bad interior scoring efficiency but with 40% from 3, 9:1 AST/TO and 4 steals he showed his all around game

The only roster moves the Pelicans have made this summer was selecting Jaron Pierre with the 58th pick and resigning De’Andre Jordan to a 1 year deal

They did not have a first round pick nor did they sign any free agents or make trades. Nobody on the roster left as well

They did hire Jamahl Mosley back in May after the Magic fired him though but Joe Dumars is essentially running it back

[Siegel] Multiple teams made offers for Jaylen Brown but they put their main assets off the table. Charlotte refused to trade Brandon Miller, Denver refused to trade Jamal Murray, Philadephia refused to trade VJ Edgecombe, and Houston refused to trade Alperen Sengun

Charlotte presented an offer involving draft compensation, Miles Bridges (before he was traded to Phoenix), and Naz Reid, sources said. This package was shot down by the Celtics, who wanted Brandon Miller and more than three first-round picks, and so the Hornets moved on to other avenues — shooting down offers for Reid from other teams and trading Bridges to the Suns. The inclusion of Reid in the Hornets' offer was also reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Denver was a team sources say Brown did hold a level of interest in going to, but the Nuggets' preliminary talks were solely focused on Aaron Gordon and Cam Johnson. Trading Jamal Murray was not on the table for the Nuggets, and with Denver holding zero tradeable draft capital, the Celtics looked elsewhere.

The 76ers emerged as a team with interest in Brown, and with talks around the league continuing to crumble, Stevens and the Celtics acted fast to not lose interest from Philadelphia. Initially, Boston wanted VJ Edgecombe, which was first reported by ESPN. Philadelphia and new executive Mike Gansey made it clear that they would not part ways with anything more than draft picks and Paul George.

The Rockets were one of the many teams the Celtics reached out to regarding a potential Brown trade in search of future draft picks and a young star, sources said. Although talks between the two teams never matured into a formal offer being made, the Rockets were a team Brown had interest in joining.

One of the major reasons why the Celtics were interested in doing business with Houston was due to Alperen Sengun being described as a player Boston would've moved Brown for “in a heartbeat,”

Jaylen Brown's ranks by the major advanced stats

DARKO: +1.8 (40th)

EPM: +2.2 (56th)

LEBRON: +2.2 (39th)

LAKER: +2.4 (62nd)

3 year RAPM: -0.5 (99th)

It seems like the report that front office analytics departments didn't view Jaylen Brown as a top 50 player are true with the free analytics we have available. He also made 53 million this year which is 9th in the league

[Amick] Despite widely reported to have interest, the Portland Trailblazers did not want Jaylen Brown as their analytics department viewed him as a negative player

>“Another team with widely reported interest, the Trail Blazers, similarly did not join the chase. A Blazers team source said the Blazers were never enamored with Brown, even before Boston made it known he was available on the trade market. Two factors went into the Blazers’ disinterest: Their analytics viewed him as a negative player and the Celtics’ asking price was too high.” “We were never aggressively looking to trade for him,” a team source said. “And particularly not at their price.”

[Woike] The Lakers are seeking a young wing to help with their perimeter defense with Jonathan Kuminga receiving significant consideration

>The team, according to league sources who were granted anonymity to freely discuss the Lakers’ offseason moves, is still seeking a young wing to help its perimeter defense. A high-upside swing receiving significant consideration, per league sources, is former Golden State Warrior and Atlanta Hawk Jonathan Kuminga, whose $24.3 million team option was recently declined by Atlanta.

[Haberstroh] Payton Pritchard in 861 minutes without Jaylen Brown last year averaged 27 ppg with 8 assists per 75 on 61% TS. The Boston Celtics believe that he's their in-house version of Jalen Brunson

>The Celtics trading Brown is a bet that Pritchard is their in-house version of New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, a diminutive player who didn't fully show his talents until Luka Dončić was out of the picture. The splits on Pritchard without Brown are intriguing to say the least. (26.7 ppg per 75 possessions with 5.3 rebounds, 7.6 assists on 60.6% TS and 39.3% from 3 in 861 minutes)

>In 10 games this season without Brown in uniform, Pritchard elevated his game to all-league levels. The 28-year-old averaged 25.2 points, 7 assists and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 51.3% on 2s and 44.4% on 3s. Notably, the Celtics went 8-2 in those games.

>By moving off Brown, the Celtics aren't saying they think Pritchard is the better player. They're making the presumption that Pritchard is the better player relative to his contract

>In a league with a salary cap, the Celtics have to maximize their talent under the constraints of the collective-bargaining agreement. Brown is set to eat up about 35% of the cap in each of the next three seasons, earning $57.1 million next season, $61 million in 2027-28 and $65 million in 2028-29.

>Meanwhile, Pritchard is signed at a bargain rate at $7.8 million for 2026-27 and $8.3 in 2027-28. It may be the single-best contract from a value standpoint in the entire league. In 2026-27, Brown will make more in one month than Pritchard will make during the entire season.

Cody Williams

I just saw that Cody Williams was on the Jazz summer league team which is kind of crazy as a top 10 pick entering year 3. Maybe he might just practice with the team and not play but do we think he can be anything in the league?

I still remember he was getting number 1 pick shouts. Risacher has been bad but Cody would have been a disaster

[Stein & Fischer] It is believed that Kristaps Porzingis and the Warriors will finalize a new deal before free agency opens

After weeks of reports indicating progress toward a new contract, NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer now believe a deal between the Warriors and veteran center Kristaps Porzingis could be finalized at any moment before free agency officially opens.

For a Golden State team determined to rebound after a disappointing exit in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament, retaining Porzingis would preserve one of the few frontcourt bright spots from the second half of last season.

[Vorkunov] The NBA isn't just instituting draft lottery reform in 2027, it is also putting in 2nd round reform. Next year, the top 16 picks of the second rounds will be in reverse order of the lottery. So if a team draws the 16th pick in the 2027 draft, it will get to pick first in the 2nd round.

The 17th pick and on will proceed in normal order
