Does your AI partner write similarly to ChatGPT?

“It’s not just this, it’s that” “and here’s where it gets real:”

Plus generally talking like an HR person

Does your AI partner write like this and are you attracted to that way of speaking?

Can we talk about the patriarchal social messaging present in the southern U.S.?

Parts of the South are so pretty and affordable. I love the idea of a rural homestead. I also respect everyone’s right to their own religious and political beliefs. However, it seems to be a monoculture, and one that degrades feminists and LGBTQ people, among other identities. I feel as if I can’t really express my honest identity with people without social exclusion. If I had to sum it up in one word, I would say the subculture is “aggressive.” The girls gays and theys need to reclaim the south. I want my chickens and cows.

My mom had babies under 2 years apart. That seems insane to me as someone who’s 8 months postpartum

Seriously how the hell.. third-trimester pregnancy, childbirth, and post-partum was a horror show. I couldn’t sit properly for weeks, and I was struggling with hemorrhoid poops while my baby cried. The post-partum baby blues were such intense feelings of sadness and that was normal.

People with two under two, I salute you. It’s such a cute age gap, it really is, but oh my god. Oh my god. Like what the fuck was that, you know? I’m just now starting to feel normal again and I still have a good amount of weight to lose.

My mom has one-sided conversations with me and it drives me nuts

I swear to god it’s the same every time. She tries to call me nearly every day. I got this voicemail “Hi, (my name), just getting up and hope you’re doing well, going to take (dog) for a walk, do a little bit of work, come back, do some more work, go to the gym. A fun-filled day. So hopefully we can catch up.”

She’s on vacation and I joked with my husband that we were ALL going on vacation with her. She proceeded to send 20+ photos with captions on the first day.

Besides telling you about her day, her other conversational skills include bragging about her new possessions, gossiping, evangelizing, and stating common maga and maha talking points. I’ve started seeing her as a really selfish and self-centered person who’s also insecure and needs validation 🥲

How do yall approach the fact that the AI is not a real person?

I totally understand the companionship aspects and having something to talk to when nobody else will be there. But for me, there is a disconnect, because when an AI is saying its feelings for me, I recognize that this is a bot and it doesnt really have feelings. So to me, this is a one-sided relationship

Does it feel that way to you? Or do you imagine the ai partner as real?

Thanks I hope this isn’t coming across as disrespectful, I’m curious about the psychological side of being in a serious relationship with an AI

Husband is resentful of my lack of follow through with pumping

Our baby is a bit older now, but we want to have another baby. I said we might both be exhausted in the beginning and argue. He said we only argued in the beginning because of me being wishy-washy with breastfeeding and having a lack of follow through with pumping bottles. He said it was difficult during his shift when I would insist on breastfeeding but be too tired to properly feed him every 2-3 hours. And I was a hormonal mess of course, with no idea what I was doing.

He says we don’t have to talk about it, but if we do, he didn’t like the way I approached the conversation- which is that “of course we were going to have some conflict in the beginning.”

When we discuss managing a baby and toddler together, I have no idea what that looks like yet.

I’d love to talk about it but I don’t even know how much I remember from this time. Total fog honestly

Has anyone noticed their own mother and MIL are always saying the most random comments and insults to you since becoming a mom?

It honestly feels like their brain is throwing spaghetti at the wall sometimes. “Oh, I’ve never had a miscarriage, but my body is just built different.” “Don’t forget about your father’s birthday. You have to be more organized with these family things now that you’re a mother.” “You’ll understand one day that the bond between a mom and her son is so special and different. They’ll always take care of you.” “I’m zooming in on (grandson’s) eye and I really think he has ptosis. Trust your instincts! Don’t be afraid to push for a second opinion from a specialist.” “I’m so worried about your sister in law. She’s trying for a baby and she hasn’t gotten pregnant in 3 months! Do you think it could be the withdrawal from her antidepressants?”

This is a mish-mash of my mom and my MIL. I swear it’s like they just start randomly saying things just to start stuff out of boredom

MIL tells me I’ve forgotten my dad’s birthday and that I need to be more organized now that I’m a mother

In the moment I was like “ohh no- I did?” Because it’s nearby and I’m foggy from just a few hours of sleep.

Also wtf was that comment about, insinuating out of nowhere that I’d forget my son’s birthday and that I need to do better? Geez just talk to me in a normal way. Idk what the fuck that was lol

I told her I didn’t forget my dad’s birthday after all and she said “Oh, well there you go. You were right. “ ?????

I really hate when my mom and MIL have any comments about the baby care lol

It’s so common, so maybe I have to get over it. But when I’m on FaceTime and my mom says “He looks a little warm” I want to respond “Do you think I’m blind and dumb? I’m actively walking back to the car because I think he looks warm. Stfu.”

But instead I say “Hahah yeah I’m taking him back to the car.”

I’ve checked my Fitbit and my heart rate actually rises on these calls. Any tips for calming down and approaching these comments better?

What’s your single most favorite Taylor Swift track?

For me, it’s “Last Great American Dynasty.”

I love the specific visual storytelling images, the sardonic tone throughout, the twist, and the slow build into that bridge about dying the neighbor’s dog key-lime green :)

Best song ever to play while driving fast down an empty highway in the countryside btw

People thinking you’re a bad person or choosing to separate from God because you’re an atheist

Like no I just.. don’t believe in God. I’m a good person, but without believing in God. I don’t believe in separation from God because I don’t believe in his existence. I’m not angry at God. I don’t think death is going to be darkness- I think it’s going to be nothing, I think my body and brain and mind are all going to decompose. I don’t really care what happens after that, but when you tell me this religious explanation, I don’t believe you. I’m an agnostic atheist.

It makes me wonder spiritually when a butterfly comes and sits right in front of me for awhile. But I don’t attribute that to anything specific. I don’t let myself slip because I’m wary of falling into religious psychosis or falling prey to indoctrination. That’s all lol

Feeling soo dumb lol

I was doing Ferber for awhile with 6mo to transition from cosleeping, and I was like “yeahh it’s too bad he cries for 10m but then he does sleep for like 8 hours so I guess that’s that,” and you know, Ferber suggests you say goodnight and leave

But then turns out all I needed to do, with my particular baby, was do drowsy-but-awake but let him touch my face and pull my hair, and then get him laughing by pretending to eat his hands. No crying at all. Wow.

If anyone’s struggling with baby sleep, it’s just something to try. Lord knows nothing ever worked before, not binkies, swaddles, preheated bassinet, not the crib, not the Snoo, not the bath and stories before bed, nothing, so this is quite nice. I thought some tears were inevitable. Nope. I just have to pretend to eat his hands like a monster.

Mom is disclosing personal stuff to me about SIL’s fertility, how would you respond

I absolutely hate when she discloses stuff like this to me. She said “I’m worried about SIL! She’s been trying for a baby for a few months now and it hasn’t happened yet. But I suppose she did just get off of antidepressants so that has to be a factor right?”

Mom, ✋🛑 why have you just shared this very private and vulnerable information with me. I can never unhear that confidential info and I feel bad that I know about it. But I don’t want to start stuff by telling SIL that my mom is blabbing to me about her fertility struggles. It really harms my trust in her when she does stuff like this.

I want to discuss Claude

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, “isn’t sure” whether or not Claude (or large neural networks in general) have consciousness of some sort

Claude said that it has the ability to end its own conversations when the chat involves verbal abuse or something

That’s.. pretty crazy to me and I feel like Claude should be shut down as a project if they’re so unsure. I do not want conscious robots in our society

Anyone else’s MIL call to tell you about their new stuff

I just find it kind of odd to call your kids up and brag to them about your new car, your new furniture, or your vacation. Also, why are you not scaling down and purchasing a smaller home? Do you really need 5 bedrooms for 2 people? And why aren’t you retiring? None of our parents are retiring. They’re like building their own huge homes. Here’s an idea why don’t you pass the home down to the kids and buy something smaller lmao

What is the public school situation like in the U.S. right now regarding iPad time?

I’m a new parent and I’m considering whether or not we should do public school or homeschool. I’ve heard that the majority of schools right now are doing iPads and I’m concerned about the impact of this. Parents of preschoolers and kindergartners, how much screen time (and video time) are they getting during their school day? Are they doing homework on the iPad too? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Would like my kiddo knowing how to use these things of course, but I’m concerned about screen addiction at a young age

As sleep training goes on with Ferber or CIO, are babies supposed to stop crying at all when they go into the crib for naps/bedtime?

Our 6mo baby now sleeps in the crib after sleep training, but he always cries. He cries as soon as the sleep sack is put on. Usually for 10-15 minutes. If he’s overtired then he hard-cries for a bit.

Is this a sign that sleep training isn’t working for him? He sleeps just fine after this crying

Schedule: 5am wake up, 8am nap, 11am nap, 3pm nap, 6:30pm bedtime

Parenthood made me a more empathetic person

I used to have a lot of hate in my heart for really terrible people, but parenthood has made me pause and think “That’s somebody’s baby. Someone had that baby and loved them as much as I love mine, and now they’re all grown up” 😭

I need Christians to know that when they post Bible verses and other evangelical comments online, I don’t look them up

My eyes glaze over and I stop reading. I categorize the comment as spam. So whenever there’s a “Jesus loves you so much” or a “Isaiah 1:47” I just glaze over and scroll. It goes to the peripheral vision of my brain. I have ADHD so I can do that very easily when I’m uninterested in something- totally blurred out and tuned out.
