[1967] Strawberry Fields - The Beatles (Earth-TREE3)

On August 29, 1966, The Beatles ended their 1966 US Tour in Candlestick Park. They had decided to stop touring, due to the chaos brought by their two '66 tours, not being able to hear themselves play due to the crowd, and their music becoming more and more experimental.

The Beatles went on to do their own things. John went go film Richard Lester's How I Won the War, Paul experimented with tapes, George studied sitar with Ravi Shankar, and Ringo spent time with his family. While working on HIWTW, John came up with a song that he originally titled It's Not Too Bad, with the lyric "No one's in my wavelength". The lyrics would be written and revised from there, becoming Strawberry Fields Forever.

The band reconvened in the studio in November to record Strawberry Fields Forever, and a song written by Paul, Penny Lane, for their next single. However, Paul's perfectionism kept getting the better of him as he kept booking studio time for extra overdubs to Penny Lane, delaying the singles release. At that same time, The Beatles became planning their grand follow up to Revolver: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

A loose concept album about the band performing under an alter ego, the album was said to be so magnificent, it put ███████ to shame. The band recorded many tracks which received many overdubs. One song, A Day in the Life, combined two songs from John and Paul into one masterpiece.

Multiple songs were finished and the Strawberry Fields Forever b/w Penny Lane was due to release in April 1967. However, five days before the singles release, Paul McCartney turned on his radio to hear The Beach Boys latest single: Hereos and Villains. After hearing that it was from the band's new album SMiLE, Paul rushed to the nearest record ship to buy a copy. After listening, Paul called up George Martin, reportable saying "They've done it! They've bloody fuckin' done it!"

The Beach Boys had released SMiLE a couple days earlier. Although a major hit in the UK, staying at #1 until it was beaten out by ███████ in December, it was less of a success in the US, although it would later receive a cult following, and is now seen as one of the greatest albums of all time.

Paul quickly booked more studio time to work on the album. The other Beatles started to get worried about Paul's mental state, and in May basically forced him to take a little vacation. When he got back, Paul would make the announcement that Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was cancelled.

Sgt. Peppers has become an often talking about subject for music nerds, often being touted as "the greatest album that was never released". Many people have tried to make reconstructions of what they believe the album would have looked like. Some of the tracks would end up on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack in 1969. In 2004, Paul McCartney would release Paul McCartney Presents Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which contained rerecordings of tracks meant for the album. In 2011, The Sgt. Pepper Sessions box set was released, containing multiple discs of outtakes meant for the album.

Still wanting to use the songs they've written, The Beatles came up with the idea of doing more lo-fi layed back album to soothe their nerves. Some songs, like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (renamed Which Dreamed It?) and A Day in the Life used stripped back studio recordings, others, like When I'm Sixty-Four and Piggies were rerecorded over at John's home in Kenwood, while the rest, like Lazy Day, All Together Now, In Littletown, and I Will were brand new. The Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane single was also going to be put on this new album. One song, entitled The Candle Burns, was not originally meant to be put on the album, but John, feeling cheeky, decided to stick at the end unmarked to "scare the shit out of people". This would come to be recognized as the first hidden track.

Strawberry Fields was released in the UK on September 3, 1967, and on September 18 in the US. The album received mix reviews, with critics saying they album felt unfinished and unpolished. Some critics began to pose the question of whether The Beatles had truly lost their mark

Fortunately, they were wrong.

Plex messed up all my music release dates

Today when I went on my Plex server I noticed the release dates are all wrong. Multiple albums have the wrong year, and almost all of them have the release date changed to January 1st of the release year. Any help with this or why it happened?

[DBWI] [1971] Paul McCartney - Hot as Sun (What if The Beatles broke up in 1970?)

One of the most common tropes for Beatles fan albums is making solo Beatles albums, commonly under the context of The Beatles never forming. Any fan album community on the minitel is sure to contain albums with this premises (my favorite is 'Alternate History Albums' by Tragiclifeform, go check his mixes out on Vimeo). However, there is a points of divergence for this type of fan album that I find more interesting: What if The Beatles broke up in 1970? Reportedly, John was thinking of leaving the Beatles late in 1969 to put all his focus on his band with Yoko, Grapefruit, although he would be discouraged by his bandmates and Brian Epstein. But what if he wasn't?

After John announced his intention to leave the band, Paul McCartney and Brian Epstein encouraged him to wait until Abbey Road was finished. Following it's release in January 1970, The Beatles broke up. Paul McCartney would spend 1970 spending him with Linda and working on his second solo album, Hot as Sun.

Hot as Sun

The second studio album by Paul McCartney.
Released May 12, 1971.
All tracks written by Paul McCartney.

  4. "Mumbo"

[1971] The Beatles - Eternal Sunshine (Earth-TREE3)

Following the success of ███████ (1970), The Beatles would take a five month break. Paul spend time and recorded with Linda, John worked with Yoko on Unfinished Music Vol. 2 (which today is known as one of the rarest Beatles-related albums, with only around 3,000 copies being pressed), George produced The Radha Krsna Temple, and Ringo just continued being Ringo. The band reconvened in June 1970 to record their next single, "Cold Turkey" b/w "Behind That Locked Door", which was released on July 6, 1970. The single was met with warm reception.

Soon after, the band began recording their next album. With the amount of songs the band had waiting to be used, it was decided this would be the band's first triple album. Halfway though the sessions, John and Paul argued over recording the song Bip Bop. Ringo had the idea of doing a bet to decide if the song would go on the album. John lost the bet. Reportedly, this would be one of the reasons the Lennon/McCartney credit would be used less on future releases.

In November, George and Ringo would go down to Nashville to record with Peter Drake. This session produced "$15 Draw", "Nashville Jam", and the unreleased "Wine, Women, and Loud Happy Songs" and "Silent Homecoming" (both of which ended up on Anthology 4). Session for the album wrapped up in early March 1971.

Eternal Sunshine was released on May 12, 1971. It reached #1 in both the US and UK. It was backed by the double a-side single "Instant Karma!" b/w "My Sweet Lord". Critics praised the album, although saw the third disc (titled Apple Jam, consisting of multiple jams recorded during the sessions) to be a little lackluster. The band would take another break, with John and Paul both working on solo albums.

What's your guys opinion on using non-Beatles songs for Beatles members?

I've recently recently seen posts using Klaatu and Emitt Rhodes songs. Other fan album creators (not specifically on this sub) have also done similar stuff, mostly for either John post-80 or Stu fan albums, using Tame Impala songs for example. What's your guys opinion on this? Personality, I think it's fine. However when I do stuff like that I like to make sure the album has at least one real song by that Beatle (exception is stuff like post-80 Lennon albums).

(btw I don't mean "real songs from an artist who joins the band", like Denny Laine or Billy Preston having songs)

[2004] George Harrison - Looking for Life (Earth-TREE3)

[I know I'm skipping ahead in the timeline. A Hard Day's Night will be soon.]

Following the success of ███████ (1999), The Beatles took a break for a while, with most of them doing solo projects. On December 29, 1999, Ringo had dinner with George and his wife, Pattie, and decided to stay the night. At 3AM the next morning, a paranoid Schizophrenic named Micheal Abrams, broke into Frair Park with the intent to kill George. Ringo, who was up late in the kitchen, was able to knock out Abrams with a pan and call the police.

George began work on a new solo album around that time. In 2001, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ███████ (1971), George rerecorded My Sweet Lord and released it as a single. He also reworked three other songs for the album, This Guitar Can't Keep From Crying (originally released on ███████ in 1980), Down to the River (originally released on ███████ in 1971, reworked as Rocking Chair in Hawaii), and Cosmic Empire (scrapped song meant for ███████ (1977), reworked as My Father's Empire).

Although he had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 1997, George had been in remission for a while. However, in May 2003, George got the news that his cancer was getting worse. He rushed to finish the album alongside Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison. ██ also helped with My Father's Empire. Ringo Starr and Klaus Voorman also helped with Powerful, marking the first and only reunion of the surviving members of The Ladders. George also compiled a tape of songs, marked "for the gang".

George Harrison died at his home in Frair Park on January 7, 2004.

His final album, Looking for Life, would be released on March 4 to critical and commercial acclaim. Many would think the death of George meant the end of The Beatles.

They were wrong.

Looking for Life

The final studio album by George Harrison.
Released March 4, 2004

Side One

  1. My Sweet Lord (revisited)

  2. Run So Far

  3. Rising Sun

  4. My Father's Empire >![NOTE: This is not my George, but instead a cover of Cosmic Empire by The B-Side Band with new lyrics. I put it in as, if George redid one song from the ATMP sessions, he could have redone more.]!<

  5. Rocking Chair in Hawaii

  6. Looking for My Life

Side Two

  1. Brainwashed

  2. This Guitar Can't Keep From Crying (revisited)

  3. Marwa Blues

  4. Ride Rajbun

  5. Never Get Over You

  6. Powerful >![NOTE: This isn't actually a George Harrison, but rather a lostwave song that was miscredited to him]!<

[1963] Toppermost of the Poppermost! - The Beatles (Earth-TREE3)

Chapter 1: Backbeat

On June 6, 1962, The Beatles had their first recording session at EMI. Producer George Martin liked the band enough to sign them, although he hated the drummer. [1963] Toppermost of the Poppermost! - The Beatles (Earth-TREE3)

NOTE: You may notice that this has the same tracklist as one of the previous fan albums. I've decided to reuse that tracklist while changing the artwork a little bit. Also, any previous albums posted under the "Earth-TREE3" label are no longer canon.
