CMV: The US government should not nationalize AI companies
this is what im talking about. I didn't finish watching the video but the premise got me thinking. This will be a wholy bad idea.
Firstly, it'll just prop up already unproductive and wasteful companies and protect them from dying: Imagine if the US govt propped up Internet companies in the pre-DotCom era. Companies like Amazon and Google wouldn't have beat out the competition to become such hegemonic companies. Same here, companies like openai might have to adapt or die while bettering their practices and might fix the issues regarding AI today (environmental, accessibility etc)
Secondly, it might lag even harder behind Chinese AI: I believe, and you could fact check me on this, that Chinese AI is more in robotics and engineering than pure SaaS like in the US. A dot-com like crash that crushes their budgets could force them to diversify to accommodate for companies like Amazon or Walmart or whatever retailer to push for automation (aka less costs for them) . A bailout or "nationalizing" would basically give them an unlimited budget to have no need to compete
Thirdly, it's not even sustainable in the long run:
The US budget deficit is insane . Bankrolling a currently unprofitable industry would strain that budget. A future fiscally responsible administration would cut them out the second they get there , and they fall immediately. Allowing the to suffer now would make sure the better, more profitable, companies to survive.
Even without the possible administration, public opinion is already sour on the whole thing across the block. Adding it onto the budget would be electoral suicide for Republicans among people who actually care about the economy (a lot ) and there would be more pressure to remove it as time goes on
Also, I didn't fully watch the video I linked at the start. so if there's contradictory info in there ,I didn't know if such.

CMV: There's no MATERIAL benefit for the US defending Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion
I'm not advocating for the US or the Trump administration to just drop Taiwan tomorrow or abandon them . I know about the whole first island chain and the trust Vietnam, asean and Japan etc has in the us and won't want that to go to waste. HOWEVER , in terms of material benefit (I. e Taiwanese chips or semiconductors) there's not a point
China has like all the rare earths within their borders . Taiwan buys those minerals to then be able to make their chips. If China declares war, and believe me I refuse to believe Beijing is dumb enough to kamikaze the global economy for some vague nationalist goal, and it drags on, what will be the point of the war for the us. Taiwanese infrastructure would probably be bombed . Global trade would probably be halted. And Taiwan won't have access to the minerals required to build the chips.
So what's the material point?

CMV: The People's Republic of China isn't in an AI race against the United States of America
I'm not anti ai and I recognize its merit
I've seen the opposite argument sounded in pro industrial conservative circles that any form of regulation on AI companies would cause the US to lag behind China in a superficial race that means. lot and it doesn't make sense . I rest my argument on 2 prongs:
China has wayyy more stricter regulations on their AI than the US. Some of their state funding could be used as leverage on said countries when needs arise. If they're in some race with the us, why not let them run wild like the US
And Chinese AI is different because of their circumstances. China , like South Korea and Japan, is undergoing the preludes to population decline and, like Japan and sk , their ai is more in robotics and manufacturing to mitigate the effects of a smaller working age population. If we're not in a race against Japan or South Korea, why are we now in a race with China?
I originally had more points but I forgot them. Change my view
CMV: Pride flags shouldn't be displayed on Government property
Governments are made to serve the will of the people and treat everyone equally. The pride flag and Lgbt movement as a whole was made to be able to be treated equally as everyone else ; not to be discriminated against, or arrested for being gay etc. Pride flags on government property defeats these two purposes.
A bit anecdotal but speaking nd watching other gay people speak, they mostly say they want to be left alone ,they want to live normal lives etc ,not be used as a scapegoat or as someone to be saved by politicians. Pride flags on government property decries that. There isn't exactly a straight flag, and if the original pride movement was to be treated as equal to straight people,I don't think it's doing that

Should I homeschool my future kids
So I've been privacy to fear around American public schools and the decline of intelligence and stuff and I genuinely fear that my kid would be similar. I immigrated here from West Africa so my childhood was a bit different. I grew up mostly without a phone till late middle school and got my phone around 2018 and actually read books for enjoyment. My mom tells me I forced her to buy an encyclopedia for some reason because I liked to read but that's besides the point. I feel that if I allowed my kid or atleast refused to get them phones and probably supplement their schooling with my own books, they could turn out well right? Tbf I haven't read a book for enjoyment in a long time too , because assignments and essays and the likes , but I think I genuinely might have to take a strongarm approach to my kid's education
Wha if Trump went Uber progressive after loosing the mid terms
CMV: Ruben Amorim wasn't that bad of a coach for Manchester United
I rest my claim on 3 prongs:
He got rid of the deadwood players and people who didn't play for the badge or were too inconsistent (Antony, sancho, and to an extent rashford) for players that actually did ( Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko)
He had Manchester United in 6th around the time he got smacked. That's like 9 places above where we finished last season, and he didn't have that bad of a goal difference
His tactics genuinely tried to bring United into the modern day. How many times over the past years have we struggled because our star players couldn't perform. We only got ucl in 22/23 because of rashford, not because Ten Hag was Dutch Guardiola. So it wasn't much of a surprise that we fell apart the season after that. He could've demonstrated a bit of pragmatism in his system, I'd give you that. BUT his system wasn't as bad as ppl made it to be
He basically made what Carrick has here. The team cohesion? Amorim got rid of passenger players . The star players? Amorim bought most (if not all) of them. If he demonstrated pragmatism in his tactics, he would've probably gave us somewhere around were Carrick finished this szn
