Rental insurance for a birthday party?

We tried to reserve a picnic table at a local park for my kids birthday party and the city of west sac confirmed the booking and said they’d finalize it as soon as we showed proof of our million dollar rental insurance policy.

wtf? They also said if we served food (birthday cake?) we’d need a food permit too.

This has to be a mistake right? I already wrote the city back and waiting for a response but this is insane. If I just show up the morning of the party and lay my crap on a table it’s not only free but I don’t need a million dollar insurance policy and food handler permit.

This isn’t even what I wanted to do for my kiddos big day so gotta say, the hoops here are so far a huge deterrent to moving forward. Gotta be a mistake right? RIGHT???.

What is the elementary pick up line like?

Specifically we’ll be at Patwin (TK), but I’ll take general guidance too. What should I expect picking up my kiddo? We live in West Sac so walking or bike riding isn’t an option. My plan was to park further away and then walk over but reading other districts kindergartner pick up experiences people are waiting an hour or more in the pick up line and grid lock around the school. I have no idea what to expect since I’ve never witnessed pick up lines before. What is it like and what should I expect or plan? Can I park a few blocks away and walk in and how bad is the gridlock? When does the gridlock start?

Thank you!

ISO Medical Needles-(IVF People?)

I know this is a super weird one! We are doing infertility treatment and my meds did not come with needles this time. I got some from my support group but just wondering if anyone out there had a bunch of spares. (I did originally and stupidly gave them away!) I’m using menopur and I need both the syringe part that needs to hold 1CC and then I need some 28 or 30 gauge needle tips. I have qcaps (mixing tip) and I have enough alcohol wipes.

My old pharmacy used to just include lots of needles free of charge but Kaiser nickels and dimes for them. My prescription is also not with Kaiser (my clinic is out of state) so I would have to call my clinic, have them transfer in a rx and then wait several days for it to get processed.

TIA!

Afternoon TK- tell me it’ll be great?

My fall birthday baby missed the kinder cut off by a month so she’s starting transitional kindergarten (California’s universal pre-k program for 4 year olds) in a couple weeks. She’s done 2 years of traditional private preschool (couple hours a day a couple times a week), but this will be her first time being in school 5 days a week. She has been assigned afternoon TK, so she’ll be there from 11:50am- 3:10pm I think.

While we aren’t morning people, it feels like afternoon school means we can’t do anything else during the day or she’ll be too exhausted for school. She still occasionally naps. My 1 year old also naps during this time and I’m so disappointed my vision of going to Storytime and running errands while she’s at school is more likely going to be rushing to put baby down, then rushing back to pick her up and two cranky kids whining at me during dinner.

Does anyone have a really positive spin on this and great advice on how they made it work and it was so great? I want to reframe this positively and I’m moreso filled with dread. I could use some wise words right now!

ETA: Part of what makes this a drag is school is a 22 minute drive, so I was counting on going out there and basically hanging out until pick up time at least a couple times a week to cut down on the driving. If we have to come home and nap though, that blows. Also, baby currently naps 2-4pm. We’d have to leave for pick up at 230. 🤦‍♀️

Thrift store recommendation?

Specifically I’m looking for a place that has kids toys, holiday decor, home decor, home organization. The thrift stores by us just seem to be full of trash. Is that pretty universal or does anyone have a recommendation of a specific one to go to?

18 months and still not sleeping

My husband I are both really cracking at this point. We started trying Ferber when baby was around 16 months because he was getting up up to every 45 minutes overnight. It was really diffuse and my husband was doing all overnights until he got written up at work (basically inattention due to exhaustion) and we swapped.

The first round of Ferber got baby down to 1-2 wake ups a night. But we haven’t been able to get past that. The 1 year old and 4 year old are supposed to share a room and since starting Ferber the 4 year old has been sleeping on the floor of our room which is really challenging.

We did identify a few factors as issues- baby has been teething continuously since 8 months old. He’s currently getting 4 teeth in at once. We have given pain relief but noted he wakes up as it wears off. He can now sign to us and sign “pain” and point to his mouth which is really helpful. He also seemed to give himself a tummy ache from screaming, so we added gas meds. Also found he’s really sensitive to a wet diaper and wakes the moment it’s wet!

Current routine:

He may nap or not nap during the day- it usually takes hours to get him down and he’s usually overtired and super fussy leading up to it. He most often falls asleep in the car (but will not transfer), or he falls asleep nursing and will transfer 50/50 of the time. We rarely contact nap as I am often touched out and just keep trying to transfer him. I also can’t take care of 4 year old if we are contact napping.

Baby will not go to sleep unless 4yo is in bed. Major FOMO.

Bedtime is most often 10:30pm-11:00 simply because he won’t go to sleep earlier than that.

We nurse, then a bottle then transfer him fully asleep.

He wakes up screaming between 3am-4am. We change his diaper, gas meds, Tylenol if he seems to be in pain and now we’ve added a bottle too because if we don’t we are looking at 2+ hours of screaming and fussing or light sleep and not transferring.

Wakes up for the day between 730am-830am.

My 4 year old sleeps 12 hours at night and just recently dropped her 3 hour afternoon nap. She was a horrible sleeper under 1 and then suddenly sleep trained herself one day at 12 months.

I’m lost and exhausted. He fell asleep in the car on the way home today and I tried transferring him (fail), nursed him to sleep and transfers him (woke up screaming), and have been going in at 20 minute intervals. He’s clearly exhausted and I have absolutely no idea what to do now.

Key Lime Pie? And best carne asada burritos or tacos

We will be visiting family over my husband’s 40th birthday and he had two requests- a key lime pie and excellent Mexican food. He is more of a fan of roadside stand or hole in the wall shop vs a sit down place. We’ll be around Orange/Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda areas.

TIA!

Can i buy a kids summer park hopper and a regular adult ticket?

Sorry if this is stupid, but kids summer park hoppers are $50. We don’t actually plan to park hop but to buy a ticket for just Disneyland is more expensive for a kid than buying the summer park hopper deal. Can I buy my kid the summer park hopper ticket and then two regular adult tickets to Disneyland? Or is there something about that that is not allowed? My kiddo is 4 so she’s obviously not going alone into CA Adventure. I’m in the check out and it’s warning me it’s non refundable so I don’t want to make a mistake here! I was going to buy my kids ticket and then our adult ticket separately. Will that work?

How is KP Nor Cal navigating weight loss for patients currently?

The tiny bit of information I’ve heard is they are not prescribing GLP1’s for obese patients, only diabetics. What is the general treatment plan options being offered to members who are obese and seeking help with weight loss? Are they still pushing their shake program or are there any other options being offered?

TIA.

Thought it was a scratch but it’s on both legs in the same spot?

On my 18 month old. Noticed it on him m a week or two ago and thought it was a scrape. Odd it hasn’t healed at all. Realized tonight it’s on the back of both knees?

Any ideas? Should it be looked at? It feels smooth, not hot. I can’t think of anything that rubs him there or touches… I’m baffled. We have a lot of mosquitos in our yard but he’s had minimal bites.

Anyone nursing a non-infant/older baby/toddler and permitted to use a GLP-1?

My baby is almost 18 months so he’s not getting his primary nutrition from me anymore but I am unwilling to cut him off as long as he is asking to nurse and gets comfort from it.

That said my weight is driving me crazy. We did many rounds of IVF and I have six miscarriages- and I gained weight with most of those pregnancies since I carried them close to the second trimester. The amount of weight I’ve gained makes my body feel totally foreign to me but continuing to nurse means I also feel constantly starving. I’m super frustrated. If I wasn’t nursing I’d qualify for a medication easily based on BMI and history but I assume there’s no point in asking since baby isn’t weaned.

Is the concern the meds transfer through breastmilk and can harm baby? Or is the concern mom shouldn’t be losing weight if she’s trying to sustain a newborn? My baby is primarily nursing for comfort and sleep not nutrition.:. 😕 We have severe infertility so I’m very afraid this is my last baby and I will not cut off this life experience prematurely… but i am so exhausted by the state of my weight.

Dis they dramatically increase the CC member fee or is this an error?

Last year they charged me $149 for a membership fee on the basic credit card. It used to be $99 so that felt like a lot.

I just glanced at my statement and they charged me a $229 member fee this year. I am stunned. We have little kids and have dramatically slowed our travel so that seems nuts to pay that much just use a credit card. They really increased it by $80 in a YEAR? Is there any way to negotiate it? It’s one of my oldest credit cards, I’m so pissed!

My new security camera caught someone using my yard as a toilet

I may throw up.

We’ve had issues with vandalism due to signs we have in our yard. We’ve had juvenile trees ripped to shreds, things ripped out of the ground, sunflowers plucked of petals… my spouse is opposed to monitoring and it took three years to talk him into a camera.

We’ve had it for a few weeks and I noticed someone threw Red Bull cans into our kid’s play yard so I looked at the footage. I didn’t see who threw it (although with timing it’s likely the same person) but I do see a person walk up, look around and then pop a squat under our brand new freshly planted cherry tree. It very much looks like they take their pants down based on the motion. I went out and looked, fully expecting a big pile of shit but the ground was wet. 🤮

The person is most likely unhoused but I don’t know for sure. After they finished peeing, they stood in front of our free little library reading books and dropping trash across the sidewalk.

No idea what to do, but need to vent! My kids are little and this is so gross. Deterrents? The camera wasn’t. 🤮🤮🤮

Using IVF protocol for non-IVF cycle? Has anyone done this?

(T/W mention of prior success)

Previously I did 9 IVF stim cycles, and then have done I think 4 medicated TI cycles. All of that did not work.

We moved on from IVF because my DOR/AMH is so poor doing ER’s for one egg at a time- or zero- didn’t make sense.

What has worked for us is just plain old TI cycles, but I have lots of miscarriages. What I’d like to do is do a TI cycle but prep it and treat it almost as if we were doing IVF. I’d like to get multiple follicles growing. My AFC is bad and I’m old so getting 2-3 to grow takes work and strategy.

For example, one thing is like to do is Estridol priming. I want to get the very few eggs I have left (like a penny in a dryer!) in a synchronized cohort.

Then I want to do injectable meds. Menopur, gonal, maybe Omni.

Has anyone done this? Has anyone found a provider willing to do this?

I have a consult with CNY in the morning (long term patient) and I’m going to ask for it, but if anyone has any advice or experience or feedback on what could be or not be a good idea, I’d love to hear it.

Just quit Kaiser- they were not game. Will not prime solely based on policy, will not individualize care, will not prescribe above 300 units of menopur. Will not order labs for long cycles to figure out what’s going on. 🙄

TIA!

Easiest place for a small kiddo to spectate climbers?

My dad suggested a big rock in camp 4, but I wasn’t sure how easily accessible that was if you aren’t staying there.

Our kiddo is almost 5, a big fan of climbing, has watched multiple climbing documentaries and goes to the kinder climb at the gym and thinks it’s all great. She’s too little to do a lot but she’d really like to be able to watch real climbers for at least a few minutes (toddler attention span) while we are in the park next week.

I always loved watching the climbers on El Cap but binoculars are kind of abstract to her. I’d love it if we could just pop a squat somewhere out of the way and watch people climb outside for a short period of time where she can easily see.

Any suggestions? TIA! We’ll be there all week. Staying at Curry.

If I have red streaks/lines do I need antibiotics?

I have a few red lines on the one breast I am still using to nurse (slacker boob has been rejected and dried up). I have mild body ache, no fever. I am starting to have a warm spot. I’ve had mastitis multiple times this year as we start to wean and it’s driving me insane.

I’m doing sunflower leichen as of today and Motrin and ice.

Does the red streaking automatically mean I need antibiotics? I definetly only want to take them if I have to.

Cactus

We have had this in the ground the last 18 months and it’s been super happy but we needed to take it out. It is spiky! It is not planted in the pot, I just shocked it in there for transport. It’s under a foot tall. You can take the pot. We paid $20 for this thing- obviously free for you!

DM for address; state streets in west sac near the ballpark

Mastitis during stims

Ugh. This is so niche that i doubt anyone has advice. I’m on day 7 of stims (300 menopur) for a TI cycle at home. I’m still nursing my 16 month old. We missed a consistent morning feed yesterday and today I am tender and sore. I iced it for awhile and I took Tylenol but not sure what else I can do. Currently planning on stimming until Friday when I have another monitoring appointment. Fingers crossed I can trigger this weekend but obviously I can’t take Advil. Ideas?
