during the making of the get back documentary, peter jackson invented an AI to be able to isolate the voices of the beatles out of noisy recordings, and eventually led to paul and ringo completing “now and then”, a song considered for tug of war, but deemed too hard to work with at the time. once they finished it, wanting to go out with a bang, decided to make a full on final beatles album using new paul and ringo compositions, the completed but unreleased ”real love” from the tug of war sessions (which essentially became a carnival of light style legend to the fans at this point) and completing more unreleased demos by john and george.

during the beatles‘s reunion, a lot like before, george had amassed a giant stockpile of unused songs, and much like before, he made an album with them after the breakup

almost immediately after everest released, john began recording his first solo album, plastic ono band, featuring the titular plastic ono band (himself, yoko, klaus voorman, george, ringo, and billy preston)

in 1980, the beatles put out a second double album with little to no announcement. it had an outer cover poking fun at the mangled ’60s capitol albums (often also making people in stores mistake it for an early beatles album, only to be flashbanged by temporary secretary)

the album’s back cover “tracklisting” was a random mess of beatles songs from different eras (and some songs that aren’t even theirs) put together incoherently

however, once you take off the outer cover, you see the actual album cover and tracklist, showing that this is actually a followup to the white album

in late 1978, john becomes active with the band again, and the beatles go on tour for the first time since 1966, thus not having time to write a full new album this year. because of this, they decided to take some inspiration from pink floyd’s ummagumma, and do a half-album-half-live-album idea.

extra texture was also originally the working title for #9 DREAM (1975)

(note: i just came up with earth 1102 now, but my alternate albums series and #9 dream are now part of this universe)

when #9 dream released, people quickly caught on that it was a new beatles album, so for their next, the recently reunited beatles stopped trying to hide the fact they were the beatles.

while the other three beatles wrote new material for this album, john lennon had stepped back from music to raise his son. all his contributions were originally recorded in 1974 for walls and bridges, or covers he recorded during the #9 dream sessions. this stays the case until 1980
