Dishwasher : Inlet, Drain, Power & Space. All in one place ?

Any Dishwasher or Washing machine requires four things:

• Water inlet connection

• Drain outlet connection

• 15A power socket

• Sufficient space

However, due to the layout, size, or design of a home, these four requirements are not always available in the same location.

If you have faced this issue, what workaround or jugaad did you use to solve it?

I am planning to buy a Bosch dishwasher (60W × 60D × 85H cm) but am finding it challenging to arrange all these requirements in one place.

Since I live in a rented apartment, I cannot make any permanent or structural modifications to the flat.

Hence asking for some innovative helpful suggestions.

If possible, please share photos of your setup (without compromising your privacy), as they would be very helpful.

Dishwasher Owners in India: Need Feedback on Hard Water, Rust and Service Costs

Hi Everyone,

I have decided to buy the Bosch 13 place SMS66GW01I dishwasher (currently around ₹45,000 on Amazon).

Before purchasing, I have two queries for existing Dishwasher users.

1. Hard Water Performance

My water parameters are:

TDS: ~800 ppm

Hardness: ~300 ppm

I have heard that Bosch dishwashers can handle water with high TDS/hardness (up to around 800 ppm) when used with dishwasher salt.

1a. What is the water hardness/TDS in your area?

1b. Do you use any external water softener (eg: Kent water softener, 15K INR), or do you rely only on dishwasher salt?

1c. Have you faced scaling, rusting, white residue, or any other issues due to hard water? If yes, how did you resolve them?

2. Repair and After-Sales Service Experience

I would like to understand the any type of cost during and after the warranty period.

2a. What is the technician visit charge?

2b. What repair costs have you incurred so far?

2c. What are the approximate costs of commonly replaced parts?

2d. How is the availability of spare parts?

2e. How many days did Bosch typically take to resolve the issue after you registered a complaint?

Any insights from dishwasher owners would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For 2 people: Bosch 13-place dishwasher or 8-place tabletop dishwasher?

Hi Everyone,

I'm from Chennai, India and planning to buy a Bosch SMS66GW01I (13 place settings, 43K INR) dishwasher. There are only 2 people in my household, but space is not an issue.

I initially considered Voltas Beko DT8S (26K INR )tabletop dishwasher, but after reading about after sales service, spare parts availability, and long-term reliability, I'm leaning towards a full-size Bosch model. I can still change my mind if I get solid reasoning to buy table-top as Voltas and Faber are the only 2 options seems good in table top,out of which Faber is italian company whereas voltas has indian touch due to  TATA, however voltas Beko is currently out of stock it seems in online, offline, everywhere.

For those who own a full-size dishwasher and have a small family (1–3 people):

- Do you regret buying a 13-place-setting dishwasher?

- How often do you run it?

- Do dishes pile up if you wait for a full load?

- Is the Half Load feature actually useful?

- Looking back, would you still choose a full-size Bosch over a tabletop model?

Whether it will be really worth it to spend so much to buy 13 place for just 2 people.

I'd appreciate hearing about your real-world experience, especially if you're using the dishwasher for Indian cooking utensils.

Thanks!

Do I Really Need an External Water Softener for Voltas Beko Dishwasher in Chennai, India?

Am planning to buy a Voltas Beko table-top dishwasher and I stay near Sholinganallur / Navallur area.

My concerns are:

  1. Can the Voltas Beko dishwasher handle Chennai’s hard water? I heard it has an in-built water softener that reduces hardness using dishwasher salt.

My water parameters are:

Hardness: 300 ppm

TDS: 700 ppm

  1. Do we need to replace the resin inside the dishwasher? Since the in-built softener uses the ion-exchange method, I assume it uses resin internally. If yes, how frequently does the resin need replacement?

  2. Has anyone installed a separate external water softener specifically to protect the dishwasher in the long term?

Most water softeners are meant for high water consumption areas like bathrooms, but I am looking only for a budget softener (like Kent models around ₹15k) exclusively for dishwasher use.

Again, my water parameters are:

Hardness: 300 ppm

TDS: 700 ppm

Do I really need an external water softener, especially when the dishwasher claims to support up to 800 ppm? In real-world usage, I am wondering whether it can reliably handle only around 500 ppm.

  1. What happens if we continuously use hard water without installing an external softener?

Will the dishwasher eventually stop functioning completely, or will it mainly cause scaling issues? In other words, is the damage reversible or irreversible over time?

Where can I find a knife sharpener (கத்தி தீட்டுபவர் / Kathi Theettubavar) , either mobile or shop-based , in or around Sholinganallur?

I’m willing to travel farther if needed in case there aren’t any nearby options.

Please don’t suggest knife-sharpening tools, as my knives are currently in very poor condition and I specifically want to get them professionally sharpened at least once.
