If you had to start all over again...

If you lost everything you have for this hobby, all your feeders, foods, baths, containers and accessories, all of it, and you wanted to start over with everything you need to feed all the types of birds you want to feed, what would your shopping list be?

No easing into it. No starting slow and simple. You've already been doing this for a while, you've figured out what works and what doesn't. One shopping trip to get everything you want.

Pennington's Different Packaging for Different Stores

Just found this interesting. All the same brand, all very close in price, presumably exactly the same product, but very different packaging from the pet store, the hardware store, and Walmart.

Probably easy to guess which is from Walmart. They want kids to see it and beg their parents to feed the birds. 😂

Portable Picnic

Love this Kingsyard picnic table but didn't want to mount it in a permanent spot. Cut a small log at a right angle and attached it there so it's heavy enough to be sturdy for the squirrels but easy to move around. 😄

Trying to waste less nectar

I only have a couple birds coming to my feeder and they have never fully emptied it. Especially now in the summer I'm swapping the nectar out every other day and they have hardly drank a 1/4 of it. It holds 1 cup and that's what I always make, so 3/4 is going to waste.

My question is, do the birds have any issues reaching the very bottom of these types of feeders? If I only put in 1/4 of a cup will they still be able to get to it comfortably? Or should I try to find an even smaller feeder? Thanks!

My first bird feeding/bath setup.

I'm in southwest Virginia so there is a huge variety of birds around here. I'm not sure what I'll end up attracting most and if I should get a more specific type of food in the future. I just got the cheap big bag of basic seed to get started.

The broken fence in the background looks like crap but I doubt the birds will be too judgemental. 😂 Got quite a bit of lens flare in my first pictures too.

If you have any suggestions for better food for my area or changes I should make to my setup I'm all ears! Thanks!

Septic Tank Pumping Service

Who are you calling to get your septic tank pumped?

On May 29 I called "Affordable Septic" and got the answering machine. Left a clear message with my name and number saying I needed my tank cleaned out, non-emergency. Never heard back from them.

That same day I called Hall Septic and spoke to the guy. He was very nice, we had a good convo, he took my name and address and said he'd be out sometime the next week. June 11 I had not heard from him so I called back said I understand your busy just wanted to make sure we didn't write down the wrong information or something. He said no problem, took my info again just to be sure. Two more weeks have passed, never heard back.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. lol. Do they only come out when you tell them it's an emergency? I'm sure they charge more for that too...

Cup cup

How do you reference a specific sized measuring cup without saying the word "cup" twice?

Pass me the half cup measuring cup. I need the one cup measuring cup. Where is the quarter cup measuring cup at?

Does anyone else love this app? Just me? lol

The unskippable questionnaires/ads for Courses and Songbooks that happen every month or so are unforgivable. Even if you're already a paying pro member you still have to deal with that crap and can't get right to playing the songs you want to play. It's BS.

They are constantly breaking functionality like being compatible with page turner devices. They usually fix it within a day or two, but in a couple weeks they'll break it again. Also very annoying.

They have some major issues with their sorting. You can find user submitted chords and tabs files that for some reason don't show up when you apply the "chords" or "tabs" filters. Wildly broken code.

All that said, I absolutely LOVE this app! I use it everyday of my life for hours. I use it for multiple instruments. I bought a tablet to put on my piano and the ONLY thing that tablet ever gets used to do is launch UG. I have songs saved that have mandolin, banjo, ukulele, etc. tabs/chords. There is nothing else that comes even close to the quality content I find on this app. I'd be literally heartbroken if it just went away tomorrow. I would grieve like I lost a loved one. lol

I only ever see post about how bad things are, and I get the frustrations, but I can't be the only one that thinks the pros outweigh the cons by far? Or maybe I am...

Note: I do NOT work for UG 😂

Dumb question about food heating appliances

Microwaves, air fryers, toaster ovens, etc. with a timer on them will continue to run for a few seconds after the cycle is done. Why?

You can watch the timer reach 0 and the bell/chime goes off to let you know it's finished, but the fans, heating elements, whatever components in there don't fully cut off for an extra few seconds. It's not a long time, but it is noticeable.

I'm sure they aren't *all* like this, but all the ones in my house currently are and I've used them at other houses/offices that do it to. Is there an actual purpose to it? Thanks!

Dasher's Messaging

Lately I've been getting more and more messages like this from Dasher's. Not always directly asking for more money but just providing updates throughout the process. "waiting for your food" "on my way" etc. I don't mind any of it and always reply kindly, but just curious has something changed in the policy recently? Are they allowed to ask for tips like this, or have they been told to message more?

How many tabs do you have saved? How many playlist?

As you can see I've been using this app for almost 10 years. I've always just saved every single song I saw that I thought I might want to learn or can play and sing with a chords chart. I'm noticing now that this probably isn't the best way because every device I open the app on goes into a "loading tabs for offline use" phase and basically never completes it. lol

I'm going to start removing saved tabs, adding more playlist, and only saving a much smaller "setlist" to have when I don't have internet.

Just curious how everyone else has been doing this? Do you have a lot of saved tabs and playlist? What's your favorite method of organizing?

Converting Guitar to Birdhouse

I have an old non-valuable acoustic guitar I would like to turn into a birdhouse. I already have some ideas about how best to pull this off but wanted to post here and see if anyone had more tips.

I know I need to put something in the soundhole to make it smaller, because we want birds in there and not bigger things that eat birds/eggs.

I'm also thinking I should put a shelf so that the actual usable space is smaller than the whole guitar. I suppose I could even drill some more holes and make it a multi-room house.

I'm going to make the whole back removable for cleaning and adjusting the inside spaces.

I have seen other guitar birdhouses, but never a detailed breakdown of what they did. If you've ever done anything like this before and have any tips or see that I'm missing something let me know! Thanks!

A Reactor Reaction

I'm in a weird place where I think this product is pretty cool, fills a need that some players actually have, and is a perfectly logical next step into this whole technology driven guitar tone world, but I have absolutely no desire to own it at all.

I mean no offense to anyone, but I've always found it odd with all the modelers out there now, how many users pay other people to dial in the sounds for them. Paying youtube influencers to create tones for you is weird to me. Turn the knobs yourself. Use your ear to tell you what you like. It's nothing magical or complicated. But, despite me feeling that way those marketplaces are huge and make a bunch of money.

This product spits in their face. It says "stop paying someone to dial in a perfect EVH tone for you, just ask the amp to do it, and it will." For that reason, I like it. I'd rather see people getting their tones by describing it, or playing the audio to their amp, than paying people for their preset packs. But I still don't want/need it personally.

Just my thoughts. I'm excited to see everyone else's over the next few days!

Boutique $5k Strat is better than Fender is meaningless to most guitarist.

Title edit: Saying "this boutique $5K Strat is better than Fender" is meaningless to most guitarist.

I'm on team Fender is being an A-hole but most young guitarist can't afford a Suhr, James Tyler, etc. OR an American/custom shop Fender, so seeing all the influencers say they make better Strats than Fender is coming across as tone deaf. Fist off, what Fender are they even comparing it to? No Suhr should ever be compared to any Fender that isn't an equal value Custom shop. Saying James Tyler is better than a Players Series is stupid and unhelpful. Watching some rich person nitpick about two $5k guitars is also unhelpful.

Fender makes a large chunk of their money off their Indonesian and Mexican made guitars. None of those boutique builder brands make anything under $1500. Young starting musicians who want to boycott Fender can still only afford a Squire that cost $500 or a Players that cost $850. Focus on what companies are making better options than those for similar prices.

I love some of these YouTubers and watch everything they put out, but this is just rich people attacking other rich people for doing rich people things. It's Ferrari vs Lamborghini when most of us can't afford a Kia.

Already watched videos in recommended

An update in the last few days has caused videos that I have already watched, all the way through, to stay in the recommend ribbons. This is happening on the YouTube app on Samsung TV and on Amazon firestick.

There has always been a ribbon called "watch again" that would have old videos I watched before on there, but these are videos I *just* watched, and they are showing up in all the recommended ribbons. It displays the red bar at the bottom of the video completely full, so it knows I already finished it.

This doesn't seem helpful to anyone. Not to the YT algorithm, not to advertisers, certainly not to users. It's just stupid nonsense.

This was just therapeutic rant. I don't feel better, I'm still annoyed, but at least I've expressed that annoyance on the internet now. 😂

Add all songs in a playlist to my library

Just checking my sanity here. I've Googled and there are several sources that say you just go to the playlist, click the 3 dots/options, and there should be an option to add to library, but there is not. Not on mobile app and not on website.

I'm guessing there uses to be and they removed it? Or several sources online are just wrong af, which wouldn't be surprising at all.

If the function isn't available that's fine. I'm only feeling triggered because it's saying it is available but isn't. Lol

Just trying to understand the design and layout of this system. The rectangle is obviously the tank. I don't understand why they installed it at an angle from the house like that, but whatever. I really don't understand the layout of the drain field. They are usually square/rectangle from multiple pipes layed parallel to each other. What system makes a circle like this and why is there that one line of grass still alive in such an odd shape?

I'm not asking why the grass is dead, what to do about it, or anything about the health of this system. Just the actual design of it. What parts were used to make it look like this, and why? Never seen one like this before. Thanks!
