25 American Bands for America's 250th

I work at a small AM radio station in Chicago, WSBC 1240 AM, as the Sunday morning DJ from 8am-1pm, and despite everything going on, I still want to celebrate America and it's cultural impact for the last 250 years. For my broadcast, I've picked my 25 favorite American bands, and I'm going to introduce each one and say a few things about their impact and play a few songs by them. I'm well aware that my list skews towards classic rock and the 20th century, but again, this list is purely subjective. What do you think of my selections?

25.) Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen

24.) Run-DMC

23.) Blondie

22.) Ramones

21.) Buffalo Springfield

20.) Phish

19.) Jackson 5

18.) Santana

17.) Crosby, Stills, and Nash

16.) The Temptations

15.) Outkast

14.) Sly and the Family Stone

13.) The Byrds

12.) The Staples Singers

11.) Beastie Boys

10.) Booker T and the MGs

9.) Mothers of Invention

8.) Little Feat

7.) Talking Heads

6.) Steely Dan

5.) The Allman Brothers Band

4.) Parliament-Funkadelic

3.) The Beach Boys

2.) Creedence Clearwater Revival

1.) The Grateful Dead

Anyone wanna jam in the park on the 4th of July?

Hey everyone! Hopefully tomorrow is supposed to be pretty nice, and I was thinking of celebrating the federal holiday with a little jam session in the park? I play banjo and harmonica and am looking to join up with other people for a little no-stakes public jam. I play mostly blues and country but will play anything and can adapt quick. If you're interested in meeting up just to play a little music and have a good time in the summer on a holiday, let me know! It would be up by Osterman Beach on a park bench off Bryn Mawr around 4:30/4:45

EDIT: rain looks pretty sketchy, I may be out later in the day but I probably will wait till after 4:30, if anyone is still interested please send me a PM

Taking an instrument on a Greyhound

Good Lord, I hate the Greyhound bus company. I have never had a good experience on one, but unfortunately circumstances dictate that next week, not only do I have to take one, but I also need to check my banjo in the undercarriage luggage storage. I am purchasing a nice hard case for my banjo today because my I would never check it in my current soft case. Has anyone had any experience checking an instrument on a bus line like Greyhound before? Any tips or suggestions or horror stories? I really don't want my instrument to arrive broken after spending all this money on a hard case and extra checker baggage, and I certainly don't want it to get absolutely crushed by other travelers' luggage.

Worst non-gimmicky episodes?

Any time the "worst episodes" question gets asked, people always respond with the gimmicky episodes like Liberty Bell, Cricket's Tale, and Roller Rink, but excluding those types of episodes, what's your least favorite episode of Sunny? The normal ones where the gang is participating in their normal schemes? I've never liked Charlie and Dee Find Love all that much

Why do you think TV's Frank owed the mob $50,000?

In Red Zone Cuba, TV's Frank is in debt to the mob for fifty large? How do you think he accumulated such a debt? My theory is he was restocking the refrigerator for William Conrad Fridge Alert System

Grateful Dead and Little Feat

Did they ever play together? Jam out at all? I know they got to jam with the Allman Brothers Band and it sounds fantastic, I would've loved to hear Jerry and Lowell trade solos or Bill and Brent slam the keys together

Cole's Bar Jam last night

I went to the jam session at Cole's Bar last night. I just wanted to thank everyone who hosted it as well as the people that made me feel welcomed there. I'm fairly new to playing instruments, and I was far and away the least experienced person on stage and wasn't sure what to expect. I really just play blues so I've gotten used to the song structure and the structureless jams threw me off a little bit, but I felt confident enough to play a few songs on keys and join the horn section on harmonica. Near the end of the night, I got to lead a few musicians in The Midnight Special, a jammy song I'm more comfortable playing, and it was a wonderful experience. The bands who played sets that night were terrific as well, and everyone could really jam. I have never played a jam outside of playing with strangers in the park, and I want to thank everyone who made it such a wonderful experience. I hope to see everyone next month and get better every time

Any World Cup travelers in the beautiful Granite State?

Probably unlikely as we aren't hosting any event to my knowledge, but I'm curious! I've seen lots of posts on social media recently of foreigners coming over for the World Cup and getting to experience the real, every day America and it's filled me with a sense of patriotism I haven't felt in quite some time. It's nice seeing people get to experience the real America that doesn't get shown on national news. I know the Scots are in Boston, anyone make it up to the White Mountains, or Puritan Backroom for some chicken tenders, or the Red Arrow? I know it's unlikely but I am curious

Anyone want to jam in the park this afternoon? (no rain this time!)

Hey everyone! I'm looking to jam with some other musicians in the park this afternoon, just to have fun and make music in a no-stakes environment. I did have something planned on Wednesday but that got rained out so we're jamming out today. If you want to join, any skill level and any instruments will be welcomed with open arms. I play banjo and harmonica, mostly blues and country and can learn on the fly.

6/13, 6pm, park bench by Osterman Beach off of Bryn Mawr

Banjo while camping

This July, I'm going up to Madison WI to do some car camping for the week with my friends, and I want to bring my banjo to play songs around the campfire. I've been practicing rigorously for the past eight months and have gotten pretty good at it. I've been really looking forward to it, I love my banjo and I love playing music. This is a state park family campground, and I made sure to book a site on the corner of the bend of the road as to be as far away from people as possible. I'm aware of the lights out/noise out policy at 10pm in this campground, and can play pretty softly as to not disturb the other campers. I'm not out on a nature trail or anything, I think this is primarily an RV/car camping place. Is this a faux-pas to do? I just want to play some classic folk and blues tunes around the fire and not ruin anyone else's camping trip.

EDIT: I am not planning to play after quiet hours, I worded that poorly

EDIT EDIT: the haters can pry my banjo out of my cold, dead, marshmallow-sticked hands

EDIT EDIT EDIT: sent an email, heard back from a WI Parks and Rec Specialist, we're set to boogie!
