Anyone know what happened to the White Flying Power?

Anyone know what happened to the White Flying Power?

Has anyone seen the White Flying Power cans around lately?

It feels like as soon as the new Peach and Mango flavours arrived on the shelves, the White ones completely disappeared from my local store.

Did they get discontinued to make room for the new flavours, or is it just a temporary stock issue?

Anyone else seeing profitable SA companies manufacturing redundancies just to shift workload to AI?

Throwaway account for obvious reasons but I need a sanity check on what’s happening in Adelaide at the moment.

A mate of mine just got made redundant from her marketing role at a mid-sized company here in SA. Her manager gave her this massive, convoluted speech about "tough market conditions," "supply chain crises," and "global microchip/memory shortages."

Here’s the kicker though. She’s really close with the girls in accounting, and they literally showed her the books. The company’s revenue is actually up, profits are growing, and their specific industry has absolutely zero reliance on the supply chain stuff or memory chips the manager was crying about. When my mate politely pointed this out, the manager just froze and started blaming the government for everything instead.

It gets worse. The exact same thing happened to their admin bloke last year. He was made redundant under the guise of "the economy," and then the manager immediately bought a premium Claude subscription and dumped the rest of his daily workload onto the receptionist.

Now, my mate has found out her old marketing duties are being split between the marketing manager and a junior coordinator who was just handed a Claude account to "streamline efficiencies."

It honestly feels like total corporate gaslighting. The company isn't struggling at all, they've just realised they can pay 30 bucks a month for an AI tool, squeeze the remaining staff to absolute breaking point, and inflate their profit margins to please shareholders who think growth and profits are some infinite resource.

Is anyone else in South Australia seeing this lately? Are businesses using "the cooked economy" as a convenient blanket excuse to sack local workers and replace them with tech?

A few thought experiments on political polarisation, migration, and the US trajectory vs Australia

Hey everyone,

I have been doing some reading lately on sociology and geopolitics, particularly looking at how political polarisation and societal division seem to be shifting globally. I wanted to open up a neutral discussion on a few hypothetical scenarios and get your thoughts.

  • Who benefits from division? From a structural perspective, who actually gains long-term when a society becomes deeply divided? Is it purely media engagement, economic interests, or foreign influence?
  • The US trajectory: If Australia were to closely mirror the institutional trajectory of the US, what would that look like in practice? For instance, would it mean expanding agencies like the Australian Border Force into a highly visible, domestic enforcement body similar to America's ICE, or would it change how we approach regional security and territories?
  • The migration question: With recent data showing US net migration dropping into negative territory, the structural issues often blamed on immigrants like housing shortages and high living costs haven't disappeared. Instead, labour shortages in construction and supply chains have complicated them. If Australia reached net-negative migration, would it actually resolve our infrastructure and housing pressures, or are these problems driven by deeper economic factors?

I am keen to hear some objective, analytical perspectives on this rather than partisan finger-pointing.

Cheers!

Anyone else in Adelaide getting weird, sketchy job offers to create social media content for One Nation?

Hey everyone,

I am trying to work out if I was just targeted by a highly specific new phishing scam, or if anyone else in the Adelaide freelance or media space has had this happen lately.

A few weeks ago, I was approached on Instagram by a business account offering decent money to create social media content pushing specific One Nation political talking points. Because I was slow to reply, I went back to check the message today and the account has completely vanished. They have either blocked me or deleted their whole profile.

The whole thing felt incredibly dodgy and made me wonder if it was a foreign identity-harvesting scam rather than an actual political campaign or if all this is for earning advertising money.

Does anyone know the legalities around foreign or anonymous third parties paying people to push local political content on social media? Has anyone else in SA received these random recruitment DMs, or was it just a weirdly targeted scam?

Cheers!

Moving to Tanunda soon - Questions on budget short-term housing, getting a licence without a car, and finding local community!

Hey everyone,

I am planning a move to Tanunda soon and want to pick the brains of some locals to help me map out my transition. I am a pretty simple man, I do not need anything flashy, just a practical setup to get on my feet.

I am trying to work out my initial housing budget while I look for a long-term share house. Does anyone have a rough idea of what it currently costs per week or per night to stay at:

  • A local pub like the Tanunda Hotel or Valley Hotel?
  • A powered site or basic cabin at the local caravan park?
  • Any community or independent living housing options provided by the Lutheran churches in town?

On the plus side, I have managed to lock down accommodation (short term) that is only a 2 minute walk from my workplace. However, I still need to learn how to drive. Given that I do not own a car yet and cannot afford commercial lessons, are there any local volunteer or community driving programs that help people get their hours up out here?

I would also love to wrap my head around the social and community side of the valley.

  • Volunteering: Are there any good local op shops where I could lend a hand?
  • Churches: Which are the best Lutheran churches to get involved with?
  • Lifestyle: Where is the best gym and local hairdresser? Are there any active meetup groups, weekend art galleries, or regular community events I should look out for?

Appreciate any insights, pricing estimates, or general tips you can give a newcomer to the Barossa. Thanks in advance!

Looking into buying land in Bangladesh as a foreigner. Anyone done this?

Hi everyone,

I am looking into the possibility of buying land or property in Bangladesh for a long term hold, and I am trying to figure out the legalities for foreign buyers.

Just to give some context on why I am looking at Bangladesh specifically, the macro factors seem really unique:

  1. Right now, foreign currency goes a really long way over there, so the entry point is quite accessible.
  2. It is a very small country geographically but has a massive, booming population.
  3. Because of climate change and rising sea levels, they are actually losing viable land mass.

Essentially, you have a shrinking supply of land combined with an exploding demand for accommodation. Long term, it feels like prices will inevitably go up due to that sheer scarcity, which could make it a great asset to sell off in the future.

That said, I know Bangladesh has strict rules about foreign nationals directly owning real estate. It looks like I might have to set up a local company or joint venture to do it legally.

Has anyone here actually gone through this process or looked into it?

Cheers!

[26/M] M4F - Out of the game for years and zero confidence. How do I start talking to women again?

Hey everyone,

I am a 28-year-old guy living in a small town. I've just moved here. I have been single for a long time, and my confidence is at zero. I get incredibly anxious talking to women, especially about dating, and I have no idea what women actually expect these days.

I work as a frontline healthcare worker, with plans to get a higher qualification in a few years to move into a non-clinical role. Outside of work, I go to the gym, read books, love comic books and comic book movies, visit art galleries, check out op shops, and head to local community events and restaurants.

Living in a small town makes putting myself out there feel even more intimidating because everyone knows everyone.

I want to start dating again, but I freeze up. What do women actually look for early on? How do I build the confidence to just have a normal conversation without letting anxiety take over? What are all the expectations from women? Any advice would be amazing.

"No drivers available" but Uber still charged my bank account? How do I get my refund?

Hey everyone,

I tried to book a ride earlier today and the app spent a few minutes searching, but eventually came back with a message saying "no drivers available".

The problem is, I immediately got a notification from my bank saying that the full fare was charged to my account. I never got an email or notification from Uber acknowledging the charge, nor did I get anything saying a refund is on the way.

Has anyone dealt with this before? How do I actually get my money back?

Appreciate any advice!

Need public transport advice: Burnside to Lobethal for a weekend sleepover group?

Hey everyone,

Planning a weekend sleepover with a couple of friends next weekend (Saturday and Sunday) up at a mate's place in Lobethal, and we are trying to figure out how the hell to navigate the buses from Burnside.

Our timeline is pretty specific and looking at Google Maps is melting my brain because of the weekend timetables. Here is what we are trying to pull off:

  • Saturday Night: We all catch the bus from Burnside together, planning to arrive at the house in Lobethal around 11:00 pm.
  • Sunday Morning: A few friends need to leave Lobethal early around 8:00 am to head back.
  • Sunday Night: Those same friends are coming back up to Lobethal for round two, again aiming to arrive at 11:00 pm.
  • Monday Morning: We all leave Lobethal together on the bus at 8:00 am.

Would love any route recommendations, specific bus numbers to look out for, or tips from anyone who commutes up that way on weekends. Cheers!
