I definitely understand the concerns people have about the Ohio State University dental clinic using people as guinea pigs and the requests to ban them from the forum.
I want you to know that I take the concerns raised seriously.
Regarding the claim that the dental clinic makes patients sign a waiver of their right to sue, that could be true but as of now it is unverified . So I don’t want to act based on what is technically a rumor right now. If true, I would find it very disappointing that people aren’t being told about this form until after they’ve already taken time off of work and arrived at the clinic. But as of now, this form might not even exist.
Additionally, the current set of students seems to include several bilingual students and that’s so important — there may be potential patients that don’t speak English, so having a dental student that speaks their language could honestly be so beneficial for them.
And banning the clinic would also mean the current students lose access to patients based on the dishonesty of prior students, which is not ideal.
At this time I am choosing to not ban the OSU dental clinic and I hope you all can understand. Please continue to share your experiences so that others can be more informed and people are making an informed decision.
