SCOTUS Just Struck Down Campaign Finance Restrictions , but will this influence YOUR vote?

So political campaigns can spend unlimited amounts of money to (try to) get their candidates elected. But, do 24/7 TV ads, etc. REALLY change anybody's mind one way or the other? A Republican could saturate my media market and I'd STILL choose to vote for a Democrat. Unless outright cheating is involved (e.g. Musk infiltrating voting processes somehow), are people really that gullible as to see a bunch of ads and go "Huh. That guy must be really good since he has so many ads."

How about this ball of bees after they swarmed?

This afternoon about 6:30 here in DFW I noticed a pretty big swarm of something in our backyard then realized it was bees! The swarm got more populous then seemingly started to dissipate... THEN I noticed a pretty large ball in our juniper. It was made of solid bees! A wonderful man helped us last year relocate a much smaller "ball" elsewhere in our yard but he is out of state until end of July. Should we just wait to see if they move on?

I've attached the pic but can't apparently post the short video of the swarm.

Has anyone bought a walking pad for home use?

I really want one for when Texas weather becomes uncomfortably hot or cold (today's heat index is currently 109F). I've been looking online, and in the Treadmill subreddit, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has one that has lasted longer than a year. Many I've looked at get poor reviews for longevity, and I'd like to keep price under $300

Pencil eyeliner

Edit to add: OK, then! I got my tapered liner brush an hour ago, used some dark brown eye shadow (not wet) and have decided (for now) that this method of lining my upper lid is my new go to!! I want to thank everyone who contributed their favorite product and methods...but if I had never posted this question here, I would never have known about this new (to me) method. THANKS EVERYONE SO MUCH.

I've used Maybelline eyeliner pencils for decades, but in the last few years it's been difficult to get a good line on the top lid without having to rub back and forth. I've tried a couple other pencils but those tended to smudge and give me raccoon eyes. Someone on the Make-up subreddit suggested a gel "pencil", but I'd prefer not to "paint". So have any of you found a pencil that glides on smoothly and doesn't smudge? Thanks, y'all.

An extraordinary episode3

Watched the 2016 Christmas special, two episodes....the 2nd one, where Trixie performed a C section...so many profoundly touching events took place. I was brought to tears. I often am, TBH, but this one really got to me.

Edit: really wish we could edit typos in the post title (didn't mean to add a"3")

I hope the lady who's building a house in Scotland belongs to this subreddit

Sarah McCleskey was on the end, did very well, came in 2nd. During introductions she mentioned that she'd use the money she wins tonight toward a kitchen for her new house she and her wife are building in Scotland.

I perked up at her comment and wonder how she's able to immigrate to Scotland? Maybe it's just a vacation home? Or they plan to live there 6 months at a time? Maybe her spouse is a UK citizen? Perhaps one of the couple have grandparents who are? Anyway, I adore Scotland and would love to live there permanently.

A soft, comfortable bra. Does one exist?

I really need to start wearing a bra around the house again, to try to prevent any further sag, lol. I envision somethng like a soft "shelf" to just kind of lift and support. I'm probably 34-36, C cup now. Any suggestions? I don't really want a sports bra that flattens me entirely. Thanks for any help!

What to do with the plastic utensils FF places INSIST on giving you??

We ALWAYS ask takeout places to NOT give us plastic forks, etc., but they entirely ignore us and do it anyway. As a consequence, after saving them all for years and years, we've accumulated too many and I can't bring myself to throw them away, and our recycling program won't accept them.

I am about to use some of the forks in some of my flower pots to discourage kitties from using that nice, loose soil as their litter box, but that will be a litteral drop in the bucket. What do y'all do???

Would this work to change ANY MAGA minds?

When I lament about how could ANY sentient being still can support Trump in light of the easily obtainable facts about him, my husband points out that those people don't SEE the facts....they only watch Fox or listen to far rightwing podcasts or You Tube channels...

What if: I put together a front and back single page of issues/facts easily verifiable going back years about how crooked and horrible he is, mailed it anonymously to all my MAGA (99% of my neighbors), then ask if they agree the truth should be acknowledged and taught, ask THEM to send to 10 or 20 addresses outside our neighborhood.

No chain mail threats of dire consequences if they don't, lol. But maybe, MAYBE the effort would open some eyes? Maybe it could spread across my city, state, nation?

Less Tolerance for Heat as you've aged?

Wow, beginning last summer I've found I have MUCH less tolerance for outside heat than ever before (I'll be 77 next month). It's weird since I've always thrived on being outdoors, gardening, hiking, etc. (NOTE: I live in Texas). But now, if it gets above 85, I'd just as soon stay inside....and yesterday it was 98 degrees where I live. Hubs, 2 years younger than me, is right now biking home from the lake (he rides nearly every day, winter or summer). What the hell is going on with me?

Taylor Sheridan's stuff is so damn cliche '

Born and bred Texan here. Only 4th generation, though. I'm really disappointed in Dutton Ranch (and Marshalls, but that's for another subreddit). It's like he writes dialogue from a cliched formula.

Unemployed, no income .

Son lost his job of 14 years nearly 2 years ago, has applied everywhere, no luck. He's enrolled in a plan via marketplace in the ACA , but we think the rules require SOME income in order to qualify for any insurance, even if he doesn't claim subsidies. He estimated he'd earn just enough but didn't anticipate this difficulty in getting any job at all.

Question: will there be legal penalties when he files income taxes next year, and have to report zero income? He needs a comprehensive plan, not just catastrophic.

Second question: does ANY private insurance company sell plans to a person unemployed?

Computer not turning on via power switch in front, but....

Computer not turning on via power switch in front, but....after trying all the recommended troubleshooting protocols, to no good result, I pressed the BIST on the power supply, held it, then pressed the power button at the same time and, Voilà!. Desktop booted up no problem.

Shut it down, tried it again and it worked again.

Pleased to have discovered this workaround to be able to get to my files, but what is the root cause of this happening? Broken power switch in front? Or what? Thanks!

Tarrant County Pursues Death Penalty ‘Almost Exclusively’ Against People of Color, Report Shows.

https://thebarbedwire.com/2026/05/21/tarrant-county-pursues-death-penalty-almost-exclusively-against-people-of-color/

Tarrant County has accounted for nearly one-quarter of death penalty trials in Texas since 2020, even though it has only seven percent of the state’s population. Out of Texas’ 254 counties, only prosecutors in two, Harris and Tarrant, pursued new death sentences in 2025, according to the group.

Would this be ridiculous or ridiculously cool to put in our backyard?

I love Lord of the Rings and am obsessed with this fire ring and would like to create a fire pit area like the second picture. My husband hates the idea and isn't on board at all and basically said I can't buy it (using my own money, we have separate accounts) because it's "too nerdy" for our shared space.

My other thought was to buy the fire ring and use bricks built up around the outside so you can only see the design inside, but it feels like a waste of the gorgeous design that way.

Front yard faucet is behind the shrubs

Front yard faucet is behind the shrubs

It's difficult for me (a petite woman) to reach the faucet and invariably my hand and arm is scratched up turning on and off. I can't trim the shrub back far enough to remedy the situation. Is there any kind of extension piece a plumber could attach or could the faucet be moved toward the front? Thanks to anyone who can offer advice or a solution!
