looking at property in cairns but i live in brisbane

thinking about buying an investment place in cairns but i've only been there once like 5 years ago. not sure if i'm being stupid or if it's actually a good idea. looking at prices online and some stuff looks pretty affordable compared to brisbane. but i don't know the areas at all. like which suburbs are decent and which ones to avoid.

my uncle used to live in edge hill and he said it was nice but that was ages ago not sure if it's still the same.

anyone here bought in cairns without living there? how'd you go with inspections and stuff? did you get a buyer's agent or just do it yourself?

Your opinion about backlinks

SEO has always been the part I keep putting off for my app. Tried the usual stuff: guest posts, directories, asking other founders to swap links. It moves slow.

A few weeks ago, I purchased Marketing 1on1 backlinks packages. Figured I'd just test it with a small package and see what happened. Honestly the results were more noticeable than I expected for organic traffic, though it's still early to say how much of it sticks long term.

I'm not fully sold that it's a sustainable strategy on its own, but it helped push a few pages up enough that I stopped obsessing over it daily.

Curious if anyone else here has gone that route for early stage growth. Did it hold up over time or did you end up having to redo it every few months?

Wheeling SPY in sim before doing it live. already learned something annoying

been reading about the wheel for months. Feels like the most "can't lose" strategy when you're just watching youtube videos about it

Decided to actually run it on a trading game sim first before committing capital. 30 DTE CSPs on SPY, 0.3 delta, the usual boring stuff

First week was great. collected premium, felt like a genius
second week SPY dropped 2% and I'm sitting in a sim position that's red by more than the premium I collected

obviously I knew that could happen. but knowing and feeling it are different things. Seeing those red numbers even on fake money made me realize I was way too confident about getting assigned at a strike I "didn't mind owning"

Sim doesn't teach you the real emotional side but it does expose holes in your thinking before real cash does. I would've been that guy panic closing a CSP for a loss if I went live immediately

gonna run it another month. see how it handles chop. the boring stuff is the point I guess

I've been slowly switching to natural skincare and honestly I don't know why I waited so long

so for years I was doing the whole multi-step thing with all these serums and active ingredients. retinols, vitamin c, all that. my skin was okay nothing amazing but not terrible either.

but I started looking at ingredient lists and just feeling weird about what I was putting on my face. like half the stuff I couldn't even pronounce. and I'm not usually that person but something shifted.

I've been slowly transitioning to more natural stuff. oils, simple moisturizers, fewer steps. and my skin actually seems calmer? less red? I don't know if it's the products or just the fact that I'm messing with it less.

I'm curious how many people here went fully natural and never looked back? and how long did it take for your skin to adjust?

Thinking about solar + battery storage in Australia

So my daughter moved to Australia a while back and settled near Brisbane. Her power bills are running around $350–400 a quarter and climbing. We got to talking and she's serious about putting solar on the roof, maybe adding battery storage so she's not just feeding the grid for nothing.

I don't know much about how it works over there versus here in the States. From what she's told me, the sun hits hard and the incentives seem decent, but she's not sure what system size makes sense for a threebedroom house with two people.

She was looking at a few local installers and found RenewCo Solar, which seems to cover her area, but we're both just trying to figure out what questions to even ask before she commits to anything.

Anyone here dealt with Australian installs? And is battery storage actually worth the upfront cost, or does the math not pencil out yet?

built my first welding table using cheap recycled steel

i finally decided to build a proper welding table after years of working on the floor or on random sawhorses that kept wobbling. i wanted something sturdy with a thick top that could handle heavy projects without flexing.

i went to normetals and picked up some solid steel plate and angle iron for a fraction of what new material would have cost. cut everything to size welded the frame together and added a few cross braces for extra strength. the whole thing came out way better than i expected and only took a weekend to finish.

has anyone else built their own welding table from recycled materials? what thickness of plate did you go with and did you add any features like a lower shelf or clamp points?

kobe 24 inspired jersey from 99 jersey quality check

i picked up the kobe 24 inspired jersey because i wanted something clean for casual wear without spending crazy money. the stitching and colors looked solid in the photos and it arrived faster than i expected.

the fit is pretty true to size and the material feels decent for the price. i’ve worn it a few times already and so far the print hasn’t cracked or faded. i’m curious how well these hold up after multiple washes though, especially compared to other replica style options people usually recommend.

What hidden outdoor spots around the world have genuinely taken your breath away?

I've been lucky enough to visit a handful of places that stopped me completely in my tracks, where you just stand there and forget to take a photo because you're too busy trying to absorb what you're seeing. For me it was a remote coastal stretch in northern Iceland where the cliffs met the sea in a way that felt almost fictional.

But I know there are places out there that never make the travel guides or the popular hiking lists. The kind of spot a local pointed you toward, or one you stumbled onto after a wrong turn on a trail.

Curious what locations have genuinely surprised you. Not the famous parks or welldocumented destinations that show up on every top ten list, but the quieter or more overlooked places that deserved far more attention than they get.

Could be a forest, a coastline, a canyon, a lake basin, anywhere really. Domestic or international, accessible or seriously remote. I'd love to hear what stuck with you and why, and whether you think those places are better off staying under the radar or whether more people should know about them.

Drop the location and what made it feel special to you.

thinking about buying a home pilates reformer

i’ve been doing some pilates classes and really like the resistance and core work. lately i’ve been thinking about getting a reformer so i can do it more consistently at home without having to go to a studio every time.

i’ve been wondering is it worth buying a pilates reformer for regular home use or is it better to just stick with studio classes for now. has anyone here added a home reformer to their routine and how did it affect your consistency and results? any tips on what to look for when buying one for home?

At what point did you stop relying only on skincare products?

Been doing a consistent routine for a while now and my skin is genuinely better than it was a few years back. But lately every new product I add does less than the one before it. Texture is still there. Dullness too. I look tired even when I'm not.

Started wondering if that's just how it goes or if there's a ceiling with athome products. Hard to know what's actually worth it versus what just sounds good on a website.

I'm not jumping into anything without knowing more. But I'm curious whether anyone here hit that same wall and decided to try something outside of their regular routine. Did it actually move the needle for you, or did you end up feeling like it wasn't worth the cost?

Buying new football boots in Cairns, online or just go in store?

My old adidas ones finally gave up after about 4 years lol, need a new pair before the season kicks off. Saw a few really good looking football boots on intersport, some pairs around $90-120 which seems alright. But not sure if i should just order online or go try them on somewhere local, last time i bought boots online they felt nothing like i expected. Mostly play on grass on saturdays, not sure if firm ground or AG is better? Pitches get pretty hard up here in the dry. Anyone bought boots recently, where'd you go?

Did the seller hide a basement flooding problem on purpose?

My family and I recently bought a house in Canada, and for the first few weeks everything seemed great. The inspection didn't reveal anything alarming, and we were excited to finally settle into our new place

Then we had our first major rainstorm

I went downstairs and found water coming into the basement. Not just a small damp spot either, I’d say enough water that we spent hours cleaning up and trying to prevent damage

The more we've investigated it, the more we are beginning to think that perhaps this was not the first time such an incident occurred. There are a few points, in retrospect, that make us somewhat suspicious. Some areas appear freshly painted, and a few neighbors have casually mentioned that water could be a problem in this region in case of excessive rainfall

Obviously, I can't prove that the seller knew about it, but it's hard not to ask the question. If this has happened before, should it have been disclosed before the sale?

We're trying to understand what our options are and whether it's worth pursuing further. I've been considering speaking with a real estate lawyer and have heard good things about Nanda real estate law team

Has anyone here gone through a similar situation? Were you able to determine whether the seller knew about the problem, and if so, what happened? Did you end up reaching a settlement, going through insurance, or taking legal action?

I'm mainly trying to figure out whether this is one of those unfortunate homeowner surprises or something that should have been disclosed before closing

When did business class start feeling “worth it” to you?

Question for the HENRY crowd.

At what income/net worth level (or frequency of travel) did you stop seeing business class as a waste of money and start seeing it as buying time/energy?

I travel enough now that arriving destroyed after long-haul flights feels expensive in its own way. I’m not talking luxury for the sake of luxury, more productivity and quality of life.

Lately I’ve been paying more attention to business class deals because full retail pricing still feels hard to justify mentally.

Curious how people here think about the tradeoff.

I spent an hour in a shoe store today and left empty-handed.

I went to three different shops today, just hoping to find anything that wouldn't make my heel feel like it was being stabbed. At this point, I don't even care if the shoes are cute. I just want something that doesn't hurt.

The salespeople kept bringing out those trendy sneakers with totally flat insoles. I told them, I need arch support, but they just nodded and brought me the same shoes in a different color. I almost cried in the car afterward.

so tired of this. Why is basic foot comfort treated like a rare specialty? Why do I have to drive an hour or order from overseas just to avoid pain?

Anyway, I guess it's back to my ugly but comfortable sneakers.

banging noise in pipes when turning off shower water hammer fix

the pipes started banging loudly every time i turn off the shower and it's getting worse after the recent humidity spike. i tried tightening some connections but it didnt help so i had plumbers come check it out and they said it's classic water hammer from fast closing valves in the old plumbing.

they installed a water hammer arrestor near the shower valve and now it's quiet but im wondering if this is common in miami homes with hard water and if adding more arrestors elsewhere would prevent it from spreading to other fixtures. is replacing the shower valve the better long term fix or does the arrestor usually solve it for good?

I keep comparing myself to people and it’s exhausting.

I don’t even do it consciously most of the time. I’ll see someone doing better in some area-work, hobbies, social life-and instantly start measuring myself against that. Even if I was feeling fine before, it kind of kills my mood. What makes it worse is that I know it’s not helpful and doesn’t really make sense, but it still happens automatically. I’m trying to focus on my own progress, but it’s harder than it sounds. If you’ve dealt with this, what actually helped you reduce that habit?

Sleep is the most important thing people consistently sacrifice

It’s kind of funny how everyone knows sleep is important, but it’s also the first thing we sacrifice when life gets busy.

“Just one more episode”
“Let me scroll for a bit”
“I’ll sleep earlier tomorrow”

And then tomorrow comes and nothing really changes

“Get studying” sounds simple until you actually try to focus

Every time I tell myself “okay, time to study,” my brain suddenly becomes extremely interested in everything except studying.

Cleaning my desk? urgent.
Checking my phone? necessary.
Thinking about life decisions? unavoidable.
Actually studying? somehow last priority

Stress ruining gut health for days after?

Has anyone else noticed that stress completely destroys their gut for days?

I can eat pretty clean and feel fine, but after even one bad week of sleep or anxiety my digestion gets weird, skin breaks out, and I start craving sugar nonstop. Feels like the gut recovers way slower than the actual stressful situation.

Curious if people here found anything that actually helps besides probiotics.
