Car completely stalled out when trying to move off at lights.

‘06 N52B30 auto.

Been having some slight issues over the past months whilst accelerating. Namely the revs stuttering and dropping when quickly applying the throttle. This is an intermittent issue, only cropping up once or twice a week.

Fast forward to today, commuting home, get to a red light and come to a stop. Wait for about 60 seconds and the lights turn green, apply gentle throttle, and the car completely stalls out. I put the car in park, take out the key, put the key back in and try to start it. Nothing. I take the key out again, wait a few seconds and try again, and the car starts, before stalling out completely again with throttle. The lights have now gone red again, so I remove the key, wait 10 seconds, and put the key back in, and it starts. When the lights hit green, I put the car in drive, and wait for the car to roll a few feet without throttle, before gently applying throttle, and then the car moves off fine. I manage to drive the 5 minutes home with no more issues.

Absolutely any idea what this could be?

Recent maintenance includes VANOS solenoids, oil change, water pump, MMF and thermostat replacement, all in the last 1k miles. Previous owner replaced battery and battery harness (due to some water ingress) approximately 3k miles ago.

Attached codes from BimmerLink for reference.

Simple TV audio setup?

Looking for advice on the simplest way to set up an audio system for my TV.

I’m in a ground flat (apartment) with my couches against an external wall, and my TV against an interior wall. I am conscious about the fact that upstairs neighbours can hear my TV travelling up the thin interior walls, however I don’t want to rearrange any furniture as I like how it is currently.

My plan is to get two speakers either side of my two couches for balanced sound from the TV.

For reference, my TV has a single 3.5mm jack audio out. I’ve measured, and I believe 25m of aux cable would be enough to go out of the TV, and around the perimeter of my living room to behind one of the couches.

What would the best setup be to get connection from the TV to two speakers.

Commented with a diagram to better visualise the room.

(Any recommendations on affordable options for this setup, not overly anal about quality, as long as it doesn’t have Temu quality sound I’ll be happy)

What is his deal?

Why does he yearn for a white wall over his brand new 50gal vivarium with 5 hides and a bunch of clutter?

u/bimmerscout — 23 days ago

Would this make a suitable substrate for a bioactive vivarium?

- 10lbs Reptisand

- 10lbs Excavator Clay

- 20lbs Plantation Soil

Would be for a bioactive 36x18x18” vivarium.

Gun safe location

Finally looking to get an FAC, but a bit worried in terms of how to secure the gun safe appropriately.

I live in a ground floor flat, that doesn’t have any solid brick walls to fix the safe to, as is preferred by Firearms Licensing. Additionally, it is a relatively small flat, with no real places to fit it out of sight.

Would it be appropriate to fix it to the concrete floor, and then fit a wardrobe around it to make it look inconspicuous?

Sounds silly, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable having a gun safe out in the open, especially considering the room is at the front of the flat, where people enter and exit.

Leo not interested in food?

Picked up this lil fella yesterday, but a bit concerned about his eating habits. (First time owner)

He came with a vivarium and all of the equipment needed, which I set up as soon as I got him back home, before plopping him into it and leaving him for a few hours to settle in.

Once I gave him a few hours to settle, I offered him a medium sized cricket with feeding tongs, as his previous owner recommended these to be his favourite food. His previous owner also mentioned that he eats every other day and has a few medium sized crickets at a time. So I offered him a single medium sized cricket to which he licked a few times before turning his head and walking away. I just assumed he was not ready to eat at this time, so I left him for another hour or two before I offered him another cricket, dusted with some calcium. Again, he gave it a few licks before turning his head and walking away. At this point I was slightly concerned as he was due his feed, and he was refusing any crickets. After about the third time, he snatched the crickets from the tongs and ate it. But this was the only one he ate.

I left him be to settle, and tried offering him some more tonight, but he hasn’t taken any at all. I’m somewhat concerned as he has only eaten one cricket in coming up to 48 hours, whereas he is used to a couple in that time frame.

For reference his hot side is around 33°C, and his cool side is around 28°C. He mostly stays on the hot side, only venturing over to the cool side to explore for a few minutes before waddling back over to the hot side.

I have ordered him a bigger vivarium to allow for more space and a bioactive setup, just waiting for everything to get delivered before I begin setting it up.

Is there anything I should be concerned about? Are his temps wrong? Or is this just him settling in?

He is (surprisingly) very comfortable with me already, my presence doesn’t bother him whatsoever, and he is fine with my handling him or having my hands around his enclosure.

Any and all advice or suggestions for a first time owner are more than appreciated!

How to clear up mould after leak.

Ground floor flat, for reference.

Approximately 2 weeks ago, I noticed that there was a small patch of damp in my bathroom. Didn’t think much of it, as it has been quite muggy recently, so I just chalked it off as me having to allow more airflow in and out the bathroom.

A few days later I noticed that this patch of damp had started sprouting some mould. I then got in contact with my Landlord who said to leave it with him and that he would take care of it. Over the next week or so, this damp has now spread from the bathroom into the hallway and all the way up to the front door, leaving the initial spot of damp with dark, black, nasty mould.

I updated my Landlord every other day with updated photos of the situation, whereby you can clearly see an exponential increase in the amount of damp and mould.

Finally, a plumber has come round to the flat and has identified a small leak in the flat above me. This plumber has stated that he will come round tomorrow to rectify the leak, and has recommended me to leave the damp and mow as is until it dries out and then paint over it once it has sorted itself out.

Is this the correct way to proceed with something like this or do I need to do something now to prevent anything from getting worse in the meantime?

(Pictures 1 and 2 are the damp around the front door, picture 3 is the damp in the hallway, pictures 4 and 5 are the damp/black mould in the original part of the bathroom, pictures 6 is the damp in the opposite corner of the same bathroom.)

Has QP always been this toxic?

The amount of times I have gotten down to 10-20% health during a team fight, and ran to our team’s back line to get some quick heals, only to have to wait until natural health regen kicks in, despite both supports shooting over the teams head at the enemy.

Every time I mention it in team chat, it’s always ‘it’s QP who cares’, or ‘I don’t like you’, or ‘stop crying’.

I get it’s quick play, and I get it’s a support role not a ‘healer’ role, but seriously, how hard is it to take 2 seconds to heal your tank so that they can join in again with the team fight. I don’t care enough to sweat it in comp, and I just want to casually play the game. But it seems like every player in QP is so selfish that it just ruins the fun.

Average height with shorter legs, what’s the best sizing?

For reference, I’m a 5’9 male with a 34” waist, 36” hip, 29” inseam.

I’m looking for looser/straight legged jeans that don’t make my legs look short, and give me a similar silhouette to the reference picture.

Anyone recommendations?

Any games similar to Tap4Fun’s Spartan Wars?

My favourite ever mobile game, and the first one that I played addictively.

Every few months I get hit with a bit of nostalgia for the game, and would love to get into a similar game.

Any recommendations?

Car insurance quote increased

I did a quote for new car insurance 2 weeks ago, and got quoted X amount. The insurers stated this quote was valid up until the end of June. I have just now used the quote reference to pay for the insurance, which is valid for another week, and it has increased 25%.

How is my original quoted price valid for another week, but is only showing me the price + 25%?

Are they allowed to increase the price on a quote that is valid until end of June?

DISA valve and serpentine belt replacement

Planning on doing my DISA valves, and I have heard the best way to get to the small one is to remove the belt and alternator, so I thought why not get the belt, pulley and tensioner done while I’m in there. (I’ve read up and seen that the INA belt kit on AutoDoc is an OEM kit? Can anyone confirm?)

This has got me thinking, is there anything else that’s worth doing whilst I’m getting at the DISA valves and belt?

For reference it’s a 160k N52 and I have recently done the VANOS solenoids, waterpump and thermostat.

Feeling absolutely lost with this car

‘06 330i touring, I absolutely love this car, but there is one persistent issue that I just cannot figure out.

Whenever I want to pull off with any kind of haste, the car starts lugging, bad. Almost like it is trying to stall (Auto btw). Whilst driving, kick down drops a gear or two and I can rev it out absolutely no issue. But whenever I try to pull off from 1st, if I give it more than 1/4 throttle, it starts bogging out.

I’ve replaced VANOS solenoids, I’ve replaced the oil filter cap, and I’ve put in fresh oil. This has all gotten rid of the 2A87 code, which I thought was causing these issues, but the car still tries to stall whenever the revs go up past 2.5k whilst moving off, or even just causally driving up a steep hill with normal revs.

Does anyone know the actual reason for this issue? I don’t want to keep throwing money at new parts that don’t need replacing yet just because it *MIGHT* solve the issue.

I’ve attached the present fault codes after clearing and rescanning whilst driving.

High mileage DIY preventative maintenance

I’ve owned my 160k mile, N52 powered E91 for coming up to 1000 miles now, and I have done a fair bit of preventative maintenance so far, but I’m unsure on what I should start tackling next.

For reference, in my ownership I have done the water pump and thermostat, along with replacing the dreaded MMF with an aluminium one, coolant flush, engine oil, oil filter, new oil filter cap, and VANOS solenoids.

Planning to do all 4 brakes soon, as they are starting to get low, and I’m also thinking of ordering spark plugs and ignition coils along with the brakes while I’m at it to save a bit of cash from AUTODOC discounts.

Apart from what I’m already mentioned, what else should I start thinking about doing?

Alternator BSD error.

Been having issues with a 2E7C code on my ‘06 330i (N52). The biggest of which being the fact I cannot scan my oil level.

I started by unplugging the IBS, then the oil pressure sensor, then the coolant temp sensor, then the alternator BSD plug. Only after unplugging the alternator BSD plug did the 2E7C code disappear, and a 2E98 code took its place. After finally being able to scan the oil level, it said -1L, so I topped up 1L and it was perfectly in the middle. So I then plugged the alternator BSD plug back in, and the 2E98 code disappeared, and the 2E7C code returned, and as expected, I could no longer scan the oil level.

My question is, do I have to replace the alternator to fix the 2E98 code? Or is there just a wire/plug I can swap out to fix it instead?

For reference, I have had no issues with the electrics whatsoever.

VANOS codes and stalling after new solenoids. (‘06 330i)

A few hundred miles ago, I had issues with my N52 bogging out and stalling once started, or under heavy acceleration. I then changed the VANOS solenoids with OEM parts and cleared all of the codes. After this, I had no more issues starting the car or accelerating with a heavy foot.

Yesterday, a few hundred miles after changing the solenoids, my car stalled right after starting it, after a rough 2 to 3 seconds of idling. It only started up and ran properly once I started it and immediately gave it a bit of gas.

Today, I started the car and it immediately bogged out and stalled. I then tried starting it again with a bit of gas and the same thing happened. This then happened two more times before I put my foot to the floor after starting and got it to about 5K RPM, before idling rough for about 10 seconds and then levelling out.

I’ve been scanned the Car again to see if there were different fault codes, but lo and behold the 2A87 VANOS intake code were back.

Can anyone advise me how I can get this piece of shit BMW to just run properly?

Clunking noise from rear suspension on my ‘05 E91.

As the title states I have recently started hearing a clunking or deep ‘boing’ sound (like the kind that a spring makes when it releases tension) coming from the rear offside (right hand side) of my car. I mainly hear it when going over uneven ground or taking corners. The more drastic the difference is from smooth roads to the uneven road, the louder the noise is, and the more noises it makes. When driving constant speeds on smooth, straight roads, it feels absolutely and makes no abnormal noises.

I’ve jacked up the rear of my car and I cannot see anything out of the ordinary. The suspension looks fine on both sides of the car.

Doesn’t sound like top mounts, as I’ve had them go suddenly on an E90, but this is my first E91, so not sure if they would sound different.

Any ideas what it could be?

Edit: ‘06, not ‘05.

How to deep clean engine bay without running water?

My humble attempt at deep cleaning my engine bay using degreaser spray and multi purpose disinfectant wipes lol. It’s definitely a big improvement over how it was before, but it is still noticeably dirty. What would be the best way to go about deep cleaning the engine bay without running water?
