Rat’s First Day in NYC

I recently sold a rat sculpture to someone living in NYC and made this drawing as a thank you card. It’s Rat’s first day in NYC and he’s headed to Brooklyn via the subway. I’ve never been to NYC (and likely will never go) but it’s nice to know something I’ve made is going to be a permanent New Yorker.

I used watercolours mostly and also pencil colours and also white acrylic paint on cold pressed watercolour paper. Size is like 6x4 inches. I’m a beginner and just like to do watercolours for fun and for ideation and making thank you cards.

Rat’s first day in NYC

I just sold a Rat sculpture to someone living in NYC and made this as a thank you card for them. It’s Rat arriving in New York and trying to get to Brooklyn via the subway. I’ve never been to New York (and likely will never go) but it’s nice to know Ronald the Rat will be a real New Yorker.

This is made with watercolours and pencil colours and also white acrylic paint. Size is about 6x4 inches on watercolour paper. I’m a beginner at watercolours and I just like to do it for fun and for thank you cards.

Goofy eggs

I’m making some goofy heirloom eggs with legs bag charms! They’re still a work in progress, I have to add beads and make clasps for the charm part but they look so goofy and angry I couldn’t help but share them here. Enjoy!

after/before. I turned him into an old man

I made this last week but I thought the face wasn’t all that because I made a second one (last image) that I thought looked great with an old face so I changed it. He definitely looked like a young boy before and now he’s like a very grizzled principal.

Bog Creatures

Swamp Lily and Scallion are needle felted soft sculptures made with Himalayan wool and dyed with collected plant materials (Marigold and Eucalyptus) and Sappanwood extract. Their eyes are glass.

Even tho I made them together, I really wanted them to look like siblings not twins but it’s clear Swamp Lily got the looks in the family.

making wool eggs🪺

A little video of how I made these eggs. Instead of starting with a fully wool base like I normally would, I sewed an egg shaped pattern and then stuffed it like a toy with fabric and felt scraps.

Indigo resist for felted wool sculpture

Hi everyone! I’m attempting an indigo vat (for the third time) to dye my felted sculptures with.

Instead of dyeing my wool and then felting with it, I’m gonna instead felt white scoured wool first and then dip dye it whole. However there are some parts of the sculpture I don’t want getting blue and I was wondering what kind of resist methods I can use that will work on densely felted wool.

The method I’m gonna use is the 1 2 3 method, with fructose crystals and slaked lime. Any tips appreciated!

Is a website worth it?

Hi! I’m an artist based in India and I make sculptural objects. So far I’ve sold about 13 of these sculptures (they’re priced about 130USD) and 12 of them to the States/UK. I mostly accept orders on DM and receive payments via PayPal or Wise and ship via national post. I pay about 4% fees on wise and 11% on PayPal.

Now I’m wondering if I should have a website setup because I want to make and sell more things but my target audience is based outside India and I’m not sure how it works with payments and taxes, though I’ve read a little about it on this subreddit (specifically for people in India selling abroad).

What’s stopping me is the conversion rate and extra fees and also not being able to sell enough to cover the monthly subscription. I know a website increases trust and there’s plenty of folks who find it easier to buy stuff online without talking to someone or DMing them for all the details.

Is it worth the extra fees and admin work? Thanks for all and any responses!

Swamp Lily 🪷

Swamp Lily is a needle felted soft sculpture made using sheep's wool sourced from Dunda Village, Harsil Valley in Uttarakhand, India and plant dyed with Eucalyptus leaves and Sappanwood extract.

She's a force of nature, if that force was never acted upon and best left alone for extended periods of time.

I had a pretty tough time making this and up until the final moment of finishing it, I genuinely thought it was gonna turn out to be a practice piece that I’ll end up chucking in the back of my wool closet. But I’m so happy with how her face turned out! She’s like a lovable cranky old lady who lives in the swamp like my idol Shrek

he’s undergoing evolution pretty hard

I guess you could say we’re always undergoing evolution but he’s especially in it. I was going to make a rat first but then somehow he turned out to be like this fish in the middle of a crazy evolution arc (which is what I imagine the dinosaurs went through) he’s got a weird expression because he can’t help it.

his name is Scallion and he’s a needle felted soft sculpture made with Himalayan wool, that I dyed myself using Brazilwood extract and Marigold petals. His eyes are glass.

this is my dino-goblin creature, Scallion

His name is Scallion because he’s green and smells great. He’s a bit of a weird guy because he looks like a fish in the middle of a crazy evolution arc, which is what I imagine the dinosaurs were.
