I'll take living in Zion over living in the Matrix. Fuck Cypher.

I mean, maybe if the Machines were going to let Cypher live as some rich, important asshole, maybe the quality of life is better than Zion? I can't imagine what that's like, except I would think fame and fortune would get boring eventually.

But I think there are some aspects of the Real World that are underrated. Yeah, you live in a dank cave, eat goop, and are constantly under threat of being lasered in half by giant metal squids. But these are the silver linings:

  • You have a sense of purpose: help your fellows survive against the Machines
  • The goop and the roof (or cave wall) over your head comes to you by virtue of you existing, or at least by you being useful for the previously stated purpose. You get to skip the recruitment hell of the 21st century.
  • This is just me personally, but the Sun irritates my eyes. No more bright sun to worry about in the world of the Real. (And everyone else probably gets used to no sun out there, I bet that's why they all end up wearing sunglasses when they go back into the Matrix.)
  • I can experience anything I want in the simulators. Hell, I could probably enjoy a delicious mushroom steak in there if I ever get tired of the goop. I'll ask Morpheus if he can have everyone jacked in with a feeding tube so we can all sit together at a table and enjoy a banquet.
  • I can fucking upload new skills to my brain in seconds. How cool is that??? I'll never be able to do that if the Machines stick me back in the Matrix and wipe my memory of that technology ever existing.

[WP] As a superhero, you use your superpowers to impress. You foil a burglar, stop a runaway train, maybe battle the local suepvillain a bit. But truth be told, it's your secret "mild-mannered" profession where you actually save the most lives and do the most good.

"The Unforgivables are electricity." said Harry.

"Eckletricity? The Muggle thing???" said Ron.

Harry pulls an IBM Thinkpad 760ED out of his trunk and places it on the desk.

"Harry, what are you doing with this laptop??" said Hermione. "Hogwarts: A History clearly states that Muggle electronics cannot fu-"

"Crucio" said Harry.

"HARRY NO" the other two screamed.

Harry pushed the power button, and an IBM logo appeared on the screen, followed by the Windows 95 logo.

"The Crutiatus curse is like a full-body taser. It induces electrical current through available conductive circuits, but not enough to cause damage."

The other two were completely silent.

"Here, Hermione, take my wand. I need someone to maintain that spell for this next trick." Harry grabbed Ron's wand, pointed it at the laptop, and said "Imperio."

The laptop opened and began playing Doom, while running a disk defragging operation in the background.

"The Imperius curse, as you can see, doesn't generate as much electricity as the Cruciatus curse, but it allows a much, much finer amount of control over the currents, allowing deep manipulation of the inner workings.

As Harry explained, the laptop speedran E1M1, finally reaching the exit switch at around the same time Harry finished his sentence.

"And finally, the Killing Curse floods a system with so much energy that it destroys it completely. Avada Kedavra!" The screen went black, and smoke began pouring out of the fan vents.

"Wait a minute," said Ron, "Don't you have to, like, really want to hate and want to kill or torture your victim when you use the Unforgivable Curses?"

"Believe me," said Harry, "If you were to try one of these Muggle devices for a few minutes, you too would develop an immense hatred for them."

Do you think we'll get partial human brain uploading before we get full?

First it'll just be for research, but then... I wonder what parts of the human brain are actually useful on their own, especially if you only scan a small amount?

Imagine recently blind people volunteering to upload their visual cortex.

What if it's possible to survive the existence of superintelligent beings

Can you imagine a group of apes sitting around and discussing how worried they are that the hairless ones that are now building their own fires and killing their prey from a distance might become superintelligent and wipe all apes out because they perceive the apes to be a threat?

Sure, it certainly isn't ideal for the apes all the time, and there's also the concern that with climate change we'll wipe out both ourselves and the apes.

Another thing: viruses, mosquitoes. We absolutely hate mosquito's guts and we would love to completely genocide all mosquitoes. But the mosquito problem is genuinely a tough nut to crack that we're still working on to this day, and mosquitoes continue to reproduce and exist beyond our control.

Viruses aren't even alive, have absolutely zero intelligence, and they still often pose a threat to us that we have to mitigate.

if gravity doesn't exist, then my fist doesn't exist either

How does this mystical invisible force hold down the entire ocean, but birds can easily defeat it?

How can my fist beat up 7 Flat earthers, but can never hit a fly midair?

Doesn't blocking out the sun make it very likely humans will die?

When we blocked out the sun to kill the machines, maybe there was more to it than "the scary machines use solar so we just block out the sun to protect ourselves" and more of a reasoning like "these machines are so dangerous for some reason we can't let them escape Earth at any cost, even if all life ends here"

When did it go from "the machines are building better products than us but cheaper, so let's nuke their city" to "let's wipe out all life on Earth, biological and artificial"?

Some random crew member: These replicated cakes are delicious, but they'll never beat the real thing!

The replicator: Bitch you've had 7 of those just today and I've been making them with protein, fiber, multivitamins and sweetened with synthtose so you don't get as fat as a 21st century American

Whose idea was it to go keyless?

When the rear wheel is locked, if there's a software error the bike is bricked. If I somehow lost the battery, the bike is bricked.

Why can't we have an emergency key for the battery and the wheel?
