Ghostwood question

Ghostwood question

I got a really pretty chunk of ghostwood I plan to put in my office’s communal tank that I look after. As this is an established tank already, I am wondering if anyone knows if this wood gets the biofilm on it at first like manzanita tends to? I’m trying to keep everything as normal as possible for the tank inhabitants while also redoing the look of things. I do have shrimp so I’m sure they’d appreciate a biofilm snack lol

Has anyone got any insights for things that might be different when it comes to this wood? I’ve never used it before.

Pic attached is the wood that’s wet, I’ve been soaking it. Isn’t it pretty?!?

FatBoy Smash Burger: very yummy!

There’s a new-ish food truck in the parking lot in that weird triangle of land at St Laurent and Ogilvy and Cyrville rd (across from Food Basics) I like to give shout outs when I eat something great, so FatBoy is getting one today.

Smash burgers are trendy these days, and I’ve had a few from different places that were Ok, but not anything spectacular. My husband went to this food truck a few weeks ago and said they had the best fries he’s had in a while. He’s been back a few times now and today I got to try it with him!

I got the cheeseburger combo, all dressed with FatBoy sauce. The meat was perfectly cooked for a smash burger and very well seasoned. The sauce wasn’t an overpowering flavour but added to the juiciness of the sandwich.

The fries were also great. They are short, thick cut fries. Husband got a small poutine which is a very nice size. They use a lot of curds!! If you crave a poutine that’s nice and cheesy, this is your place.

All in all, my combo was very filling and I brought half of my fries home. It was $30 for my combo, the poutine and an extra drink. The guys working were very friendly and the place looked clean.

Give them a try! I think yall will like them :)

1st pic: buried tank in the hoard

2nd pic: tank stand anxiety. I hope it stays empty

Walker Texas Ranger. Did you watch it? Help settle debate

My husband did not watch this show as a kid. I did. I remember it being pretty popular. There’s a Walker channel on our TV so we watched an episode with the kids. I remembered it was pretty cheesy but my god it is so terrible. SO TERRIBLE.

Anyways. Husband said he’d only really heard about it in passing and didn’t k ow anyone who watched it. Whereas most family’s I knew did watch the show.

Did you watch it? How “popular” was it really?

“Walker told me I have AIDS” yes it is still the best line to come out of the 90’s. Thank you Conan for making us all remember 😳🤣

I found my pictures of my baby raccoon Chuck that was found orphaned. We raised her and she made friends with the local raccoons and had a nice wild life! 1990’s fyi

Back in the 90’s, when wildlife rehabs weren’t as common, people would bring baby animals to my parents to raise. We had many different animals and birds, but the best one ever was Chuck. She was too young to have open eyes yet when she was delivered to us by a family friend who found her in a railroad yard. She lived in our house until fall started and she had made acquaintance with the local coins from the creek valley. She loved to wrassle and also was obsessed with beer 🤣 you could not open one without her crawling on you trying to stick her hand down the bottle neck! She reappeared in the spring time, and liked to sleep in the sun with the neighbours cat. Chuck was a real one.

Sorry the pictures are fuzzy I was a teen using a shitty manual camera 🤣

Hung out with this painted lady this morning

It was probing my mat for some reason so I put a little dish of water there in case it wanted some. It did not. But it hung out with my for like ten minutes!

Snowball appeared out of nowhere a month or so ago. He was patrolling a wide area based on FB list pet group posts. He has styled in between myself and my neighbour. More below!

Snowball was posted by a few people looking to see if he was someone’s pet. No one has come forward and I believe while he may have had his kitten hood at a house, he has been on the streets for the majority of his young life. He has really taken to my neighbours, their 12 year old especially. We have arranged for him to get into a great local rescue, where he will stop being our part time cat and become someone’s forever friend. Neither myself or the neighbour can keep him :(

A few details about him: he is deaf! White cats with blue eyes have a high incidences of deafness. Speaking of eyes he has sectoral heterochromia which is super cool.

I’ve had multiple neighbours ask me if this is my cat. Nope! Only my part time cat who sleeps on my patio couch and refuses to eat crunchy food: only wet will do!

New chocolate gouramis!

I’ve kept many gourami over the years but never the chocolates. As they need a lower pH I’ve shied away from them but always thought they were adorable.

I’ve been looking for some new ones to add to the tank that I keep at my work. Was at the LFS and saw these. There were only two left and we think they are male and female. My pH is on the higher end of their wild range (6.6) but as they are tank bred I think they will be fine. I’m adding botanicals to the tank this week, and I’m excited for everyone at work to meet the little fish that look like leaves!

Curious about this guys coat colour. Friendly stray that’s been around, blue eyes and all white except some dilute striping on tail

He is a very friendly boy, and is lined up to go to a rescue next week once they have the space. He’s been hanging around our hood for a month or so and it seems like he strolls a pretty big territory based on posts in a local lost pets page. No one has claimed him but our neighbours has been feeding him and giving him shelter. He likes to sleep on my porch chair.

I am curious what coat he’d be considered as having? I know white cats can be deaf, he does not seem to be though thankfully. The only colouring he has is on the top side of his tail.

What do you think??

I attended my first native plant swap! Got some very cool plants

My husband and I are making a concerted effort to plant only native species in our backyard. The backyard is pretty sunny but also has some great shady and moist areas. We have plans for a wildlife pond in the near future as well. The Ottawa Seed Library hosts a variety of plant events and we finally made it to one! We got some cool plants that I can’t wait to get in the ground. I think my faves are the meadow rue, Virginia mountain mint (thanks to this group for posting about it all the time!) and the Spotted Joe Pye weed. The wormwood is field wormwood, and the bloodroot and wood poppy are currently in seed form so we will have to deal with them later :)

FYI: Ottawa area Costcos will no longer have propane services.

The guy explained that for some reason instead of increasing the cost, Costco is quitting propane in The whole Ottawa area. Get your tanks filled while you can!

Walking squirrel instead of hopping! Love to see it

If I can add the video as a comment I will, but this squirrle hangs out at our house all the time. Today she was eating a bunch of cherry pits from our tree while a chill Robin watched.

Squirrel buddy here is not afraid of us, she likes to forage under the bird feeder and ripped apart an entire yard waste bag to make a nest. I think the nest sucked cause she likes to sleep on my patio furniture at night 🤣

Pls enjoy her simple walk across the back patio! She wipes her little face on my fence.

Found a few old pics of my best girl Cletus; she’s been gone a long time but still loved!

Cletus was my bestie. She was around for lots of big stuff in my life including a big move, marriage and kids. She loved the kids! She loved everyone. One of kind, with big alien eyes and a heart on her back (the stuffed doppelgänger leg is against it). Anyways thought I’d share her with everyone!
