What are some good staff/wand builds?
I've never played staff/wand. Idk what the playstyle is like. If you have a good build I'd love to see it. :)
Are you a squid or just happy to see me? Weird accident.
Jeffries and Kushner Meet Privately as Midterm Attacks Fly (NYT)
>Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat of New York and the minority leader, met privately in recent weeks with Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and top outside adviser, and discussed potential areas of common ground, according to five people with knowledge of the meeting.
>The rare engagement was held in a private space in New York City, offered up by a mutual friend of the two men, according to two people with knowledge of the meeting and a third who was briefed on it.
>Through aides, neither man would comment on the session, which was described by one person with knowledge of it as a broad conversation on a range of topics. Still, its timing underscored that those around Mr. Trump were well aware of the likelihood of a Democratic-led House, and trying to foster as much of a working relationship as possible before any change.
>The private get-together was described by one of the people as a catch-up for Mr. Kushner and Mr. Jeffries. The two men have stayed in touch since they worked together on a criminal justice bill midway through Mr. Trump’s first term.
>During the recent meeting, the pair discussed housing, immigration and the high cost of living as potential areas of common ground.
>He and Mr. Jeffries also met last year, according to two people with knowledge of that conversation.
>“I think he’s a nice guy,” Mr. Trump told Punchbowl News in a recent interview, when asked about Mr. Jeffries. “I’d probably get along with him very well.”

There is a common refrain from the center-left that anyone who criticizes mainstream Democrats is a wrecker, a saboteur, not part of the big tent.
Well, I am not a socialist. I am not in the DSA. I have a variety of political opinions, but I am a Democrat. I voted Clinton, Biden, Harris. I donated. I volunteered for Harris.
Let me say this with as much tact as possible:
Fuck Hakeem Jeffries, and Fuck Chuck Schumer. They should resign.
I do not want my party leadership meeting with the fascist regime to discuss "areas of common ground." I do not want Democrats helping Republicans with anything. I do not want bipartisanship.
And I certainly do not want secret meetings.
These loser collaborators have got to go.

It's a good thing data centers eat RAM and not human food, or we might be starving right now.
reddit.comPhysics PhDs Are Leaving the US at a Record-high Rate
>Physics PhD graduates in 2025 left the US at the highest rate in the last 30 years, finds a new AIP report. Of these graduates, non-US citizens left the country at nearly double the rate of the previous year, the largest one-year increase since 1997.
>Over the thirty-year period of AIP’s data, there have been times when the percentage of students who left the US was nearly as high as in 2025, Gross noted. “Realistically, I think we’ll need another year or two of data to really know,” he said. “Of course, by that point it’ll be a little bit too late to walk back whatever policy changes have triggered these changing outcomes.”
>The report only captures PhDs who had left the US six months after graduation. “Given how US visa and immigration policy is developing, I think it is quite likely that we could see this percentage go higher, into truly historically significant levels, in the next few years of the survey,” Owens said.
>A separate AIP report from June found that first-year enrollments in physics and astronomy PhD programs saw the largest declines in two decades, excluding pandemic-related disruptions in 2020. More than 40% of these programs reported both fewer applications from and fewer admission offers to international students this year, suggesting that international student enrollments are likely to decline substantially this fall, the report states.
>“The evidence is pretty unambiguous that one of the United States’ superpowers is its ability to attract the top talent from essentially every other country in the world and put them to work here for a time, if not for their full careers,” Gross said. “It would be a really significant loss to give that up, and I think that’s what’s at stake right now.”

Jon Ossoff: "I have zero interest in running for president in 2028"
>In a call with press on July 23, Ossoff spoke about his opponent's ongoing scandals, and said he could believe Collins did not appear with Trump during his Georgia event in order to protect the president from having to answer to Collins' record. When asked whether Ossoff's anti-corruption message is resonating outside of the state, Ossoff said "I'm focused on Georgia, and as I've said, I have zero interest in running for president in 2028."
Seems like we should be taking Ossoff's statements into account when we talk about him for 2028. People who are running don't say "I have zero interest in running," they deflect and say "I'm focused on the midterms right now" or whatever.
Who else among the top names has explicitely said they will NOT be running? Not Newsom, not AOC, not Buttigieg, not Harris. They don't want to make an announcement yet, but they do want everyone to keep talking about their potential candidacy.
Guys, I don't think Ossoff is running.

Are Young Republicans Too Based to Work for Congress?

Politico has a piece quoting a few unnamed "senior Republican congressional staffers, think tank scholars, Heritage expats, and academics who study think tanks"
The gist is that they're worried the Republican party will lose the ability to govern and actual do things because everyone who is rising up the ranks is an idiot, a moron, an imbecile. (As if the Republican party hasn't already been completely destroyed.)
A few choice quotes:
"The organizations that bring young staffers to Washington, D.C. have spent the last decade prioritizing blind ideological loyalty instead of competence or intelligence. We have a generation of rabid, incompetent idiots.”
“normie expertise has been sidelined in favor of producing chum for the conservative media machine, at Heritage in particular."
"communications staff now outnumber policy staff in certain House and Senate offices — a reflection, they said, of members prioritizing “clicks and clapbacks in the ‘way too online’ corner of X,” which “doesn’t advance the conservative agenda one bit.” "
"a generation hooked on the conspiratorial musings of Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens: “Five, eight years from now, if we’re reliant on people with this view of the world, we’re in serious trouble.” "
___
Honestly, good. The more the Republican party focuses on producing social media slop for right-wing Twitter, the faster they will destroy themselves.
Maybe one day, Americans will realize the party of non-morons (the Democrats) are preferable. (probably after Republicans have destroyed everything. 'twas ever thus.)

Subreddit for conspiracy theories? r/conspiracytheories removed my post for being too outlandish
I really think I'm onto something, but I guess normie conspiracy theorists are too sheep-minded to see the connections. Where do the TRUE conspiracy connoisseurs congregate?

"I feel like the Repub—the current administration doesn't care about poor people. I feel like it's just about being wealthy." -Trump (R) 2024 voter
To be fair to this voter, there was no way to know that the Republican party didn't care about poor people and was all about being wealthy. It was really a massive 360-degree turn from Republicans, from their normal outlook toward helping the poor and the sick.
Dear The Bulwark Dot Com website designers: when was this video posted?
What is the upload date? Does anybody know? How do you know? I don't know, and I wish to know.
Is there a best practice (and Cakewalk Sonar implementation) for reducing the volume of all clips and all tracks via CC#7 or CC#11, so that there is more headroom for crescendos?
I am basically brand-new to music production (classical music background though).
I'm playing around with the BBC Orchestra VST, along with a few other plugins. I've seen that CC#7 and CC#11 work on most (but not all) instruments to control volume.
I can add CC7 or CC11 to a clip in Cakewalk Sonar and add a dimenuendo all the way down to silence, no problem there.
But with an upper limit of 127, there is very little crescendo possible from whatever the default is... unless I reduce the starting level for the clip by a lot, which makes a big crescendo possible.
The problem is that now every single other clip, in every single other track, is way too loud in comparison.
Do I have to manually add a CC7 or CC11 to every single track and clip manually, reducing the starting volume and adding the ability for a big crescendo if desired?
Or is there an accepted "best practice" to deal with this, and a certain way to do it in Cakewalk Sonar?
Thanks in advance for any tips :)

The first draft of "Project 2029" already exists: The Reconstruction Papers, by the Liberal Currents
The Liberal Currents is a publication of left/liberal thinkers, started very recently, already with a large body of great writing.
>Liberal Currents publishes writers of diverse perspectives who share an unflinching commitment to freedom, pluralism, and democracy, in opposition to authoritarianism at home and around the world. Our mission is to create a home for mere liberalism, where the many conflicting currents of the liberal tradition can enter into productive conversation.
They recently published the Reconstruction Papers, which is essentially a Project 2029: what the Democrats must do to defeat fascism in the United States. I'm hopeful they'll continue to add to this as they attract more writers to their publication, but here are some bullet points:
Institutional reform that can be done with a simple majority of Congress
- Statehood for DC and Puerto Rico
- A new Voting Rights Act
- Outlaw gerrymandering
- Expand the House
- Expand the Supreme Court to 13 seats and force a code of ethics upon them
- Immediate accountability for the entire Trump administration, including a narrow interpretation of the Presidential Pardon power that the new SC will support
Reconstruction of the Executive Branch (Legislative supremacy)
- Congress should establish a "legislative veto" for Executive actions and strip the SC of their ability to hear separation-of-powers disputes
- Insulate cabinet-level agencies from Presidential influence (including making the DOJ an independent agency)
Guardrails for Democracy
- Strengthen the Privacy Act of 1974
- Strenghten Inspector General independence
Fix the Article V process (the Constitutional ammendment process)
- Ariticle V requires 3/4ths of states to ratify ammendments, which is anti-democratic (rule of the minority over the majority).
- We The People should declare the right to self-governance and conduct a popular referrendum to establish a new Constitutional ammendment process. If it passes with a majority of votes, Congress should accept it and declare it to be Constitutional law, effectively changing Article V, irrespective of what Article V says the change process should be.
- The new Article V could take many forms, but should allow for easier ammendments to the Constitution.
I was going to write more, but I am only a small fraction through the text of the Reconstruction Papers, and this post is already too long.
There are a lot of interesting ideas here, but they won't matter if we don't engage with them. We've been asking for a Project 2029, and here it is.
I think it would be great if you would look at the table of contents and read a section that seems interesting to you. Let's talk about it.
