Do you care about your cutlery?

Strange question, I guess, but I’m curious how many people are completely indifferent to what cutlery they use vs how many people are really particular about it.

Like, does the shape, weight, length or feel of a fork/spoon/knife matter to you? Do you have a certain type that you prefer and get annoyed when it’s “the wrong one”?

Or do you genuinely just grab whatever is there and not think twice about it?

I’m curious if this is an autism thing, because I’m definitely in the *“there is absolutely a correct fork for this situation”*camp 😂

You'd think the season was over judging by some of the reactions.

Carlton beat Brisbane by 75 points last week, then Brisbane responded and beat us. It happens. Yes, we had a few issues, but one loss to a genuine top-four side doesn't suddenly erase everything we've done this season.

Our biggest problem all year has been converting our chances in front of goal. We've created plenty of opportunities, but inaccurate kicking has hurt us more than anything else. That's a fixable issue.
If anything, this is probably the reality check we needed before finals. Finals footy is a different level, and it's better to learn those lessons now than in September.

Everyone plays the same teams across the season, and we're sitting third on the ladder for a reason. You don't fluke your way into that position.
And let's not forget, there's no guarantee we'll even meet Brisbane in the finals.

Writing Hawthorn off before finals have even started is an overreaction. Back the boys! they've earned the chance to show what they're capable of when it matters most.

A conflicted Victorian voter looking for perspective

I need some help working through my thoughts before this election.

I’m a Victorian and I’ve generally leaned towards voting Labor because a lot of their policies have aligned with what matters to me as someone with a young family. I wasn’t a huge fan of Jacinta Allan, but I did appreciate some of the policies and direction her government was taking.

Now with Carroll as the leader, I’m finding myself struggling. I know it shouldn’t matter, but I just don’t connect with him, something about his public image comes across as a bit slimy to me, and it’s making it harder for me to feel confident supporting the party.
At the same time, I feel like the Liberals are a mess both federally and at a state level, so I’m not feeling particularly inspired by that option either.

I’m genuinely conflicted about how I should vote this election and feel like there are probably things I’m missing or not considering. I’d like to hear how others are approaching it and what factors they think are important beyond just party loyalty.

How Do You Mourn a Relationship That Never Existed?

For those who grew up without a dad being there when they needed him, but later made the decision to cut contact when they were older, how did you deal with the grief that comes with letting go?

I’m talking about that weird kind of grief where the person is still alive, but the relationship you hoped you’d have is gone.

How do you process losing a father figure while still carrying years of anger, resentment, hurt, and feelings that you don’t even always want to admit are there?

Part of you might miss the idea of having a dad, while another part of you remembers why you had to walk away in the first place.

How do you make peace with that? How do you let go without feeling like you’re forgiving what happened or pretending it didn’t hurt?

Sparkies: have I been scammed?

I had a sparkie come out to a residential property in metro Melbourne on a normal weekday (non-emergency) to find out the cause of a power trip. All my ceiling lights had gone out at the same time, while my wall sockets were still working.

He quoted 550 before work began, I had one of his magnets so he gave me a 50 dollar discount. So paid 500 for him to start working.

The issue ended up being a blown up fuse, those 55-amp ceramic service barrel fuse located at the POA (attached to the gutter line).

Sparkie went up to the gutter and took the fuse out. Told me he’d been calling 8 different suppliers to try and source it and managed to find one. He made it seem like it was a really obscure, hard to find part. I asked him how much the part was and told me that it’d be 320.

He said he’ll come by next week to install once it’s mailed to him. I asked if installation was included in the price, he said yes and left.

So, fees so far: 500 paid, plus 320 next week (haven’t paid yet) to source and install new fuse.

The whole thing didn’t seem right so did some research. Found out it’s Jemena’s responsibility to come by and replace fuse for FREE since it’s attached to the POA. The fuse is extremely common and a Jemena distributor technicians have them ready in their trucks.

Jemena came out in a couple of hours and replaced it there and then. This was the SMS log I got from them: Thanks for contacting Jemena. Please DO NOT REPLY. 55amp fuse replaced, Overload, red phase at POA. OLD ceramic fuse.

I feel really dumb and taken advantage of by the sparkie… Do I have enough grounds to complain to Energy Safe Victoria? Does any of this cross a legal or professional boundary?

If the sparkie knew that Jemena could be called in to replace in a matter of hours, doesn’t he have the obligation to let me know from a safety point of view at least?

Update: just rang Jemena and they told me there’s no log of the sparkie notifying them. It was ME that called them after due diligence checks. Does anyone know if it’s mandatory for sparkies to notify the network distributor like Jemena if a phase / fuse is gone? I think this is the last puzzle I need for a watertight report to the authorities.

Are PMs Losing Their Flow State?

Bit of a random thought...

Anyone else in Product Management finding it harder to get into that flow state these days?

Back in the day, I'd lose hours writing requirements, acceptance criteria, process flows, mock-ups... you were constantly creating. It could be painful at times, but once you got into the zone, everything just clicked.

Now with AI and vibe coding, it feels completely different.

Instead of spending hours writing everything, you're spending more time thinking about the problem, throwing prompts at AI, waiting for it to generate something, reviewing it, tweaking the prompt, then waiting again.

Don't get me wrong, it's faster, and I wouldn't want to go back to writing massive requirement docs for everything. But I do miss that feeling of being in the zone, where you were building momentum for hours.
It almost feels like we've gone from creating to orchestrating.

Maybe it's just something we all need to adapt to, but I'm curious...

Are other PMs feeling the same, or have you found a new way to get into that flow state with AI?

Poetry in motion

As a Hawks fan, I can appreciate good footy when I see it. This Brisbane side is poetry in motion. Their ball movement, pressure, and decision-making against Geelong have been pure football art. Even when it's not your team, you can't help but sit back and admire a performance like this. 👏🦁

Watching through sliding doors

I’m a hawks supporter, but my wife is very much Carlton. Watching you guys play with pride and enjoyment is so inspiring, I’ve watched every game with my wife and I’ve felt your displeasure and disappointment through my wife.

It makes me think of how bad or displace Michael Voss was for the club?!?

Are you all as. Happy as my wife? lol she’s thinks winning 6 in a row is the start to September already.

Although I don’t have you guys loosing too many games until finals, I suspect you’ll make the wildcard rounds 👍
