Everything looks to be well maintained, and works fine. I'd like to know the engine hours. I asked Google if there's an ecm diagnostic interface for this older motor and it's informed me that there is an OBD2-like dongle that will connect to a Windows laptop pretty cheaply and give me access to live sensor data as well as hours and code history.
Is this accurate info? I've been getting a lot of BS answers from Google AI lately so I thought it best to try to verify this.
Bonus: this same interface looks to work with my '08 Waverunner as well. But not my snowmobile...

How do you control a Wiim device when the brand doesn't exist in their library?
I've bought a '08 Avalon LS2000 (20'). The bimini top is original and it's pretty tired. Rather than restich the zippers that are pulling out, and patching the 2 small tears I think I'd rather buy a replacement. I've bought a whole new top from Pontoon Stuff for my previous toon and their Deckmate brand looks to be of equal quality to this.
My question is about the width. This Avalon is 8'6" wide and the replacement tops claim they fit 8' AND 8.5'. Can anyone verify this? It doesn't seem likely...
Bought used last July. I don't see how to activate the gauges without starting it. Shouldn't there be a way to check fuel level without running it?
2013 Ford 250. The plastic upper door panels are blotchy & chalky like it sat in the desert for 20 years.
Maybe I'm picky but this really is the worst appearance issue. Until you look underneath, but that's a different discussion.
After seeing so many stand mixers laboring to knead dough I'm wondering if getting an ice cream maker attachment would be wise. It needs to run a long time...and needs a lot of torque at the end.
Am I asking for trouble?
I have a 2000 Bayliner Capris 1850xl I bought last summer. It has a carbureted 4.3L Mercruiser. After it's winter nap It took a bit of cranking before it fired up which got me wondering if there's an automatic choke? This is my 1st I/O and every other boat or jetski I've owned has a choke or primer.
Edit: I thought to look at some photos I took with the spark arrester off & I see there's an accelerator pump linkage. I'm guessing this is way "old school" and I need to move the throttle lever a couple times to give it some extra gas before I crank it.
I never have to do this normally. It starts easy.
I have a Nike hoodie bought on campus. It has one of those soft & shiny decals on the front. Yesterday it was washed for the 1st time, following the tag suggestion (normal cycle, cold water). It was washed with other dark T-shirts and towels. It came out of the machine with the decal looking 20 years old. This wasn't even put in the dryer.
This is the first item I've owned with this type decal. I've had dozens of silk-screened and iron-on shirts & sweats that have lasted many years. Is this pretty typical durability for this type decal, or is Nike cranking out junk now?
Michigan's boating season is so short I'm starting to question the logic of changing the oil & plugs every season.
I have a runabout with 4.3L Mercruiser I maybe put 20 hours on in a season. Possibly spend more time winterizing & de-winterizing than actually boating.
Just bought a used pontoon with a 60hp Yamaha 4-stroke to replace my older pontoon (40hp 2-stroke). This will be my first 4-stroke outboard. I haven't yet looked into the maintenance recommendations. I'm expecting the usual "change the oil, plugs, impeller and lower unit lube every spring".
Have a 96 Kawasaki jetski that pretty much only needs gas. Added an '08 Yamaha 4-stroke last year. Probably 20 hours annual on those.
Many folks recommend oil & plugs every season and there's rarely any explanation. Is it due to the hours of use--or because it sits all winter? Or is there really no "logic" involved--just do it so you'll know you did everything you COULD, and maybe you'll spot a problem while you're getting your hands dirty?
I need to verify my idea will work. I have a fairly simple system:
Wiim Ultra
K13 R2R (USB input)
Amp
2 speakers
I want to add the ability to send the sound to a Bluetooth speaker on the deck, playing the same music as the LR system. My Wiim apparently can only enable 1 output at a time so "simulcasting" to a 2nd zone isn't possible. I'm told the K13 coax changes to a digital OUTput when you're using the USB input. **Is that true?**
That would permit me to add a Bluetooth transmitter connected to the coax output. A Bonus in that I could then have BT available for wireless headphones or earbuds, without ever switching the output on the Wiim.
Is my plan workable?
I thought I could add a 2nd 'zone' by enabling the BT output to BT speakers on the deck. Bad assumption, but I wouldn't think those 2 outputs would share any resources in my Ultra. AI tells me **any other** digital output will work simultaneously with the BT.
Is there a logical reason?
A little cool but sunny and clear.
Sitting dockside watching the marina put boats in the water for wealthy locals. Good drinks, good food, good entertainment!
We're just here for a wedding, then heading back to Michigan tomorrow.
Taking home a couple ideas for my own tiki bar I'm building on my deck soon.
I live in the upper part of the Michigan "mitten" and have taken many trips to the upper peninsula--but never in a diesel. I needed to drive to a wedding in Iowa over the weekend and had to t take the diesel because my other truck is in the shop waiting on a part. Before I crossed the bridge I filled up at $5.09. All thru the UP diesel was near $6, with several stations priced at $6.19. Prices have been in-line with national averages in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. WTF is the problem in the UP? Regular gas was averaging $4.20-$4.40 so it wouldn't appear to be higher delivery costs...
I moved into a house next to a lake last year. The PO paid big money to trench & tile, add a sump pit & pump, insulate the foundation, and encapsulate the entire "tub" with heavy white sheeting. Every pier & post is wrapped & taped. The only place I've noticed where the soil is accessible is around the sump liner. Maybe this wasn't taped so a sump overflow would get under the plastic rather than flood over the top & just sit there?
Is this done right?
A year later I've noticed a couple spots where the sheeting tape has failed and a seam has opened. I've also found 1 hole at the foundation that appears to be chewed by mice. There are droppings there but I've found no dead mice. This hole is a couple feet underground and I've never seen any openings at ground level around the house.
Are these little issues typical, and represent normal upkeep of the encapsulation?
My phone updated last night so I browsed the app bucket to see what new garbage games were installed. I noticed a Reminder app I didn't remember seeing before. A long press on it gives me no option to uninstall, force stop or disable. I checked Play Store and didn't see this icon and none that were called "Reminder" showed as installed.
Can someone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?
Mine is a Samsung S23.
I'm sure including the icon would be helpful but...

Stopped in at Meijer yesterday for a few things and I wandered away from the wife to see if there was anything in the liquor section I might want. On the endcap was a nice selection of clearance booze. Oh man if only I had more room and more pocket money! Meijer normally only stocks the "popular" stuff so finding these was a treat.
This is all I could add to the cart without an argument. **Half price!** I would have tolerated an argument to add more of the Appleton but this was the only one on the shelf.
I'm enjoying the 16yr scotch as I write this. I now have a 12, 14 & 16 Glenfiddich and I like them all. I don't think I'm going to change my allegiance to bourbon, but I'm finding I like scotch as well.
Historical interest post-not a recipe post.
My wife found this tattered magazine layout in her "memories box". It's from a large-format magazine like "Life". From the photos of bars on the reverse I'm putting the publication at 1946 or soon after. One thing that stands out is the petite size of these drinks.
Google claims the highest US average annual alcohol consumption was 5 gallons of pure alcohol in 1830. If the drinks were as small as these they must have been stacked high every night at the local tavern!
@ bartenders: any here that NOBODY has asked for in your experience?
