What am I not getting about Jesus' Son?

It's praised to high heavens everywhere, but I'm halfway through with it and I just don't really get it? These stories aren't doing much for me. It is well written, very simple but not in a negative sense of the word - but this is so far not a book I'll be going back to. What isn't it clicking with me that clicks for everybody else :/

Back in Feb I was extremely itchy all over my body. Some red dots here and there but not very many. It would bother me at night but even in the daytime as well. I was able to sleep. I went to the dermatologist and my body was looked at by two doctors and they said it just looks like eczema or something, possibly triggered by the intense heat in my bedroom my landlords love to bake us with. Eventually it subsided.

Itchiness got much better but my toes and fingers persisted. I have little dry patches between some of my fingers as well as a red pimple like dot or two. I have had two red pimple like dots on my genitals as well but they went away, as well as near my butt but they also didn't persist.

Ny boyfriend sleeps over a lot and now he also has red pimple like dots between his fingers, again just a couple, and he says it's very itchy. His foot and belly are itchy sometimes too but no rash or dots.

I'm getting worried now. I do have one looks like it could be a burrow between two fingers but it's very raised and honestly it also looks like eczema. But why would we both get it?

I'm wondering if it's my sheets which aren't cotton but synthetic fibers. Or my dryer sheets. I share a washer and dryer with the building so I wonder if that could be part of it.

If it were scabies, you'd think the severe itchiness back in Feb would have not subsided and by July I would have a lot more bumps, dots, symptoms and itchiness but I would say things have pretty much stayed the same since March.

Does scabies ever behave this way?

How's the material and what's the back print of it?
