New player WOTR Act 1 Review

I have had this game in my team library and have tried to get into it countless times. I finally managed to break through the opening acts and beat act 1. I am playing an eldritch scion on daring difficulty black dragon bloodline. The game is good so far, the amount of misses can be annoying but its whatever.

The game actually isnt as difficulty as people were saying maybe I'm still at the easy part but I feel like most of the difficulty is having the patience to read the paragraphs this game throws at you. When you read the game isn't too bad and I say this as somebody with zero background in dnd or pathfinder.

For the final fight against Minagho she got bullied and beaten relentlessly. She was immediately throw into a pit with some of her minions while I killed the rest of them. When the pit ended all her minions were dead and she was on the floor getting beaten by my entire team until the fight was over. I think my characters were only hit once the entire fight.

If you use the tools the game gives you and have the ability to read the game is fair. I haven't lost a single battle besides the time Jeslyn summoned the locusts I couldn't damage and relentlessly beat my team to death. But that was some bullshit.

As for my character he is easily the strongest person in my team despite me using a longsword with 10 strength and slashing grace not knowing that my offhand still counts as full despite being empty because of my class passive. So I basically have 3 useless feats.

Excited to mess around with this new army mechanic that was introduced.

Is the genre not for me or are these just game specific.

I have tried SEVERAL times to get through even 4 hours of baldurs gate 3 and pathfinder. I love RPGS, I love turn based combat, and I am a big fan of the dragon age series. So what is stopping me from even getting through the opening segments of these games. I love story based games and I want to play these games and see what ending I get.

Im not somebody who likes to deal with inventory management and crafting.

I like magic but I refuse to deal with scroll management/rune trap or any other type of crafting and thats what I think is pushing me away from the games. I like using positioning and correct spell timings to win fights not dragging characters through oil and then casting fire spells. I don’t really like cross character combos either. Having my tank use a stun attack, then my mage cast a spell that benefits from that and then having my rogue use a backstab when they are stunned and dazed for 4x damage is not enjoyable for me.

I like when characters are self reliant. These games often to me at least just feel like information overload. Just worrying about my one guy would be enough but having to manage 4 dudes and then having to control them all in combat. I also feel like small encounters in these games are also super annoying because of how long combat can take.

Idk if it’s just because whenever I watch a youtube video in these games it’s a cheese fest. Where they run around cheesing every single boss and enemy encounter. It just does not feel riveting for me.

Im going to give it another try this weekend. Hopefully I can stick to pathfinder this time. I originally started playing cause I heard you can turn into a dragon.

I have finally finished dragon age 2 here is my review.

This is directly after finishing the game like the credits are still rolling and oh boy do I have A LOT to say about this game. let me start off with the good stuff.

The companions are very unique, far more unique than dragon age origins. In terms of their background and situations. Fenris and Anders come to mind. Merging Anders with Justice was an amazing idea it was executed horribly but it was a great idea.

The graphics and race redesigns are a plus to me. All the races looked too human in origins, the Elves could use a little more work but the Qunari looked amazing.

The combat animations were also really nice.

The boss fights are pretty good the deep roads boss and Meredith were truly amazing.

However this game has problems. Deep problems at that, deep enough for me to make a reddit post for each problem but im too lazy to do that and I'm sure its been discussed to death. However before I get into these deep issues that really hurt my enjoyment of the game, I will go over the simple ones I think everybody will agree with.

Too many reused assets. I would get confused often thinking a character is somebody I already met because everybody looks the damn same.

I have PTSD from them using that same Cave dungeon design 100 times.

There is quite literally 0 enemy variety in this game, this game makes dragon dogma 2 look like a creature collector.

The wave combat was annoying and outright unfair sometimes. I have PTSD from Saarebas spawning outside of my view and one shotting my entire team.

The reworked dialogue system is garbage. I hate having symbols next to every message it throws off my vibes and having to guess what Hawke was actually going to say is frustrating.

The new Skill tree is dogshit. Why am I forced to get shitty moves to progress in the tree? It was like that in origins as well but it is SO much easier to get points in origins. You could damn near get half the tree. I also don't like personalized trees but that's just me.

They should change the name of the city from Kirkwall to Dogtown with the amount of slavers, blood mages and assassins roaming the streets,

The writing is awful at times, seriously. Its often times a character will say something that makes literally 0 sense in the middle of conversations.

now that's all the small stuff that really annoyed me

Here is the major stuff

The templars are right. After Grace betrayed me I genuinely lost my mind. How did the origins have better nuance in the templar vs mage debate. EVERY.SINGLE.MAGE.IS.A.BLOOD.MAGE
I wasn't even surprised when Orsino started using blood magic. Is blood magic even forbidden at this point? Every single mage is either a blood mage, and abomination or likely to become one of the two. I played as a mage and there was not a single time I could discuss anything with another mage they either instantly started attacking me with blood magic or transformed into an abomination, which leads me to my next point.

There is 0 choices in this game. This story is extraordinarily railroaded and you cant argue avoid a single combat in this game. No matter what I say it leads to a fight. This is what made the combat start to get so stale, this an the 100 bandits that attack you every time you do a night mission.

Now maybe I could like the game despite all these issues but the number one problem that stops me from loving this game is the rivalry system.

This post is way longer and I'm getting annoyed just writing it so I'm just going to give you a situation and you tell me if this makes sense.

So I want Fenrir to join me in defending the mages, what makes sense to make him want to work with me? Potentially giving him over to his previous abusive master or not doing that and helping him kill his master? The correct answer is to potentially hand him over to his slaver and have him beg me to not do that. Instead of the origins problem where you have no reason to piss off anybody this game has the opposite problem where actively spitting on somebody's face and shitting on their values actually leads to better outcomes with them. I continuously chose the pro mage but anti slaver options so that kept Fenrir kind of neutral with me. Because of that he never joins me at the end of the game and I have to kill him? Explain to me how It makes sense that taking slaves and siding with slavers leads to Fenrir being willing to work with me at the end of the game. If anything taking a slave should be what leads to him fighting me to the death.

The system is just extremely backwards and pissed me off. Also my game glitched and Isabella abandoned me despite me romancing her and that pissed me off even more towards the system. Then somehow I ended up getting with Merrill, I romanced her for fun but by the end of the game I despised her.

I have a lot of other issues but this post is long enough such as Anders extremely stupid decision at the end of the game, Merrill nonchalantly murdering her entire clan or the fact that I cant call out Anders for murdering the mage girl.

I WILL NEVER REPLAY THIS GAME.
4/10

I am taking a month break before I play inquisition. I can’t think of dragon age too much after this game.

Gonna try out look outside.

If enemy sits on top of each other do I just ff?

Ive played 120 games of khazix this season but now I am stuck at gold 4/3 and honestly? I just need a champion that has more carry potential in a 5v5 scenario. Too many games I’m the only useful person in my team so enemy team can sit in a 3 or 4 man blob. While their indestructible top laner who I cant contest demolishes one of my lanes. Support is constantly dead so I’m swimming in wards. So it’s impossible to find an angle. I love his early game but his mid game when behind? It feels like shit. Get locked out of my jungle and you’re so squishy that the tiniest mistake is an immediate one shot.

In this elo enemies just sit on top of each other and maybe 1 person will split off. Honestly a control mage like a brand, zyra of xerath completely negate this problem but I don’t always have those. When ahead he feels amazing but what assassin doesn’t? I still need 2 qs to kill everything regardless.

Also laners sometimes just sit in their minions and become unkillable even when low on hp.

Im going to swap to tryndamere or talon and see how that feels. Trynd mid is how I got to emerald 2 anyway.

Right now my biggest weakness is I cant figure out how to win games when I don’t have the ability to just run at towers and destroy them until I’m at the nexus.

Playing vs zed

How do I beat this champion. It’s the same shit every game. Early game I completely demolish him, invade take his camps. Last game I had this man down 3 levels and 40 cs by minute 15 he was 0/2/5 from my bot lane dying on full vision. My botlane was getting gapped so I had to give 2nd and third drake and the 0 kill zed manages to get lucky kills off coin flipping because he has no jungle. Then late he presses r on me I can’t even fight back. I can maybe get a q off before I get immediately chunked before he blinks out and I explode.

Even if I get a sneak attack it takes 2 QS to kill him while he ones shot me with one rotation.

This role is the infuriating role in the game.

Ive played all 5 roles and let me tell you this role is making me lose my god damn mind. Every single thing my teammates do just fills me with pure rage. I have had feeding teammates before but holy shit man the fact I am on jungle role just makes even the most incompetent fuckers have the balls to talk about my gameplay.I just need to play with mute when I play this role because somebody has something to say to me every game. Just what about this role makes me so angry? Has anybody else experienced jungle rage?

Why don’t Laners listen to my pings?

I swear when I used to play a few years ago when the fed person pinged Everybody listens now when I ping everybody ignores me. I was playing mid-lane back then but still. If I say I am giving dragon why does my team fight anyway and then ping me for not going. I would rather take his entire topside jungle then first dragon sorry.

Im escaping gold rn and usually junglers will just do dragon with their whole top side up. I try to be proactive but I usually cant get my team to just give the objective especially if its the second dragon.

Finally got to dragon age 2 this combat….

IS INFURIATING. Even if I ignore the skill tree getting weaker/smaller and the fact that I hate characters having unique skill trees. This game needs mana clash more than origins. The amount of times a mage will randomly spawn in and one shot half my team before I can even react is infuriating. They can teleport cast damn near instant speed one shot spells and go invincible. It’s hell, I can’t stand it.

Switching from mid to jungle review

This ROLE IS BRUTAL I’ve climbed a rank above my peak at mid now reaching gold and still climbing. I am better than enemy jungle every game. I was stuck in silver for 3 days 50% win-rate, locked in I am now at 75% win-rate in recent games in gold 3. Main thing I learned that improved my win-rate was punishing the enemy jungler. I would farm their entire jungle when they took objectives. Then when they tried to take grubs/force ganks because they had nothing to do I would kill them. When they take a level 3 gank I would take a reset and then farm my krugs to their topside.

Only thing I worry about is taking objectives with good timing. I play Khazix and if my camps aren’t farmed and enemy Jungler is alive I won’t hit dragon. This leads to 12 minute dragons even if I am ahead. If he steals my camps and denies or slows my level 6 I will cry myself to sleep. Or it could let the enemy jungler back into the game after I put him a level and 30 cs behind.

Also I have never felt the strength of support as much when playing a role. That role is so freaking broken, if my support sits under turret and does nothing. The enemy Pyke wards my entire jungle and follows around the enemy Jarvan like a freaking security guard. Setting up plays in my own jungle. It’s ridiculous how much power that role has. Having my Umbral Glave constantly on cooldown is so obnoxious and impactful just because my support never clears wards and sits under turret. Never learned how powerful wards are until I played a game vs a good support.

The best thing about this role is you can win any matchup by just avoiding enemy jungle and then punishing what they do. It’s a blast don’t regret switching.

Is it too late to celebrate my first uber boss kill?

Honestly I could have beaten him with 6 portals but I just didn't realize all of his attacks are irrelevant besides slam.

I miss life before calories

When I wasn’t watching my weight and I could just eat a bunch in one day and nothing in the next. When I did not read the back of everything at the super market. Checking for protein fiber and all sorts of other bullshit.

Maybe its just cutting thoughts getting to me

How do I play when my team is behind but I am not as jungle?

I can’t enter my jungle so the enemy jungler who I set behind just gets to free farm all my camps. I cant ever enter his side of the jungle I would be trolling because my entire team will be at base. I usually play khazix so I try and find pics but running through and unwarded jungle is suicide and if they kill me there goes baron or whatever objective is on the map. It just feels so suffocating.

Wtf is this? I want a full replacement

So the right speaker on my glasses a month after purchasing and I have been fighting support to get a replacement. Meta sends me to ray-band, ray-band sends me back to Meta and then I finally get sent back to Ray-band. Then they have the audacity to not replace but then vaguely offer me the chance to commit without showing me how much of a discount it is. I will not be accepting a discount unless you tell me how much it is. Wth is this.

Edit: So I clicked on it and it was a 100% off coupon. I just have to go and ship them back the glasses.

Alright I have beat the game with 42 hours, here is my review

I loved it, it has some issues that I simply cannot ignore but I was satisfied with the game and my ending.

Starting off with the things I liked

All of the companions are great I got all of them except for wynn who I murdered because I don’t want a nagging granny in my party. She was too puritan for me.

The combat was quite enjoyable when the enemies decide to let you play the game. I enjoyed unlocking new abilities and spells. However I won’t pretend that when the sloth demon chain stunned me after resisting 4 different stun spells I wasn’t annoyed. Near the end it got a bit boring but thats about it.
It just felt annoying as a spirit/entropy mage to have 80% of my hot bar become irrelevant vs bosses and undead enemies(Besides mana clash).

I also loved the choose your own story part of the game, despite the fact that there were a few times a lack of decisions made me angry. I hate having my opinions overturned. Free Jowan god damn it. Also no option to kill that cunning backstabbing piece of garbage Anora. However I also got choices I never expected being able to turn Loghain into a grey warden was so surprising. However I can’t do it because there is no way I’m letting Anora on the throne.

Now for my complaints

Jowan should have been a companion. After he showed up the second time I was sure I was going to be able to recruit him, why tease me like that? I like having to sacrifice a woman to blood magic to unlock the speciality but a blood mage companion would have been cool.

The evil choices suck, besides the Anvil which was my favorite decision in the game none of the evil choices make any sense. Why the hell would I sacrifice the elven slaves for 5 HP. Why would I murder all of the Danish elves? I murdered all of the mages because they were weak and I wanted those pieces of garbage gone from the circle I planned on building but gameplay wise it does nothing for my character. I was hoping I could become first enchanter of a free circle at the end of the game but it’s whatever. Overall nothing evil felt rewarding, If I’m going to screw somebody over it better be for a reward.

The dark-spawn are too weak. They are probably the weakest enemy type in the game. They are susceptible to everything. Compared to undead enemies who just resist freaking everything. Seriously I never struggled with Darkspawn since the beginning of the game till the end.

Overall I had a good time with the game and I plan on clearing all the DLC over the next 2 weeks. Then I will head over to the next game and after that finally reach the long awaited inquisition.

9/10
I loved the game and yeah it crashed on me 20+ times but I don’t care. I probably wouldn’t play it again tho, it’s enjoyable as a first time experience but the clunkiness of a 2009 game is definitely still there. Ive never been the type to replay games. I also have a lot of other games I want to get through such as Digimon story time stranger when I’m done with all 3 of these games.

40 hours into the game and just discovered the tactics tab. What the best way to utilize it.

Ive been manually controlling all of my characters the entire game. Frankly I don’t feel to bad I enjoyed controlling all my characters but I might as well try it out before I beat the game. I really don’t feel like becoming a programmer so can I just utilize the presets? Are they good enough as is or is it worth it to get the extra steps.

I just got the quest for the Queen to go to the alienage so please do not spoil me.

This is the only game I will keep playing even if it crashes on me 10 times

Ic was any other game I would close it but I love this game so much I can get 10 crashes or lose 30 minutes of progress and just immediately restart the game and keep playing. Somehow the game knows when I’m about to get off and crashes just so it can keep me playing. No way I’m getting off unless I get back to where I was.

And before anyone asks I have the steam version, I have the 4gb patch, the popular mod that fixes a lot of glitches and the mod manager. I have dragon age revisualized mod and the dog companion slot mod as well but thats it. I don’t mind the crashes as The most progress I’ve lost is at most 20 minutes because I keep saving.

Should I just take every companion?

Im going to be honest I am about 7 hours deep and I absolutely DESPISE the chantry. The tranquility is the most evil thing in the game not even an archbishop would do that shit. This chantry girl In Lothering seems desperate to join my party? Will I face consequences for letting her in even tho I plan on doing everything in my power to destroy the chantry bastards. I even threatened to kill the reverend just 30 minutes ago to save some insane dude in the cage.

Trying to farm dragon heart for level 4 empower what's the best divination card farm

I did not realize gems had to be max level to benefit from +1 level corruption so I wasted my empower lol. What's the best way to just farm for dragon heart because I don't want to spend more time leveling. Every extra level on my skeletons is another 4 million damage.

POB if you want to point and laugh
https://pobb.in/vs-hILyckRfA

I've never fought the Uber bosses even in trade, so if I'm strong enough already feel free to let me know.

My current goals are
-level 4 empower
-level 21 Vaal gem
-watchers eye for damage reduction
-Perfect Guardian turtle(This has been feeling impossible over 3 nameless rituals)
-Better wand
-Farm essences to fix my shield

I was working on a bodywarmer with +spellcrit and power charge on critical but then I hit 100% crit chance, now I'm just confused on where even to bring my gear. I also got power charge on critical coined and it also happens to be the support gem that gives me the most damage so I have no reason to craft that body armour.
