One or more woodpeckers got to the wood trim on my house over the winter. I just had the trim replaced/painted, now how do I keep the fuckers away from attacking the house, but not scare off the songbirds?

I’ve been looking to replace my original aluminum triple track storms (the interior wood windows are in excellent condition and no plans to replace). Single story home. I got quotes from installers with Quantapanel, Allied and Mon-ray. 12 fairly standard size double hung windows with fixed/removable screens and moveable lower storms, plus one 48x48 picture window. All prices are installed. All installers were provided through the mfr. FYI I’m in NY

QUANTAPANEL: $6k. Website notes low-e glass. 3-4wks lead time. Issues: installer’s license expired in 2015, and he wants $5k up front for the windows. I have not been able to find another QP installer here. I have not seen these windows in person.

ALLIED: $15k. Quote does not mention low-e. 12-15 wks lead time. 40\\\\40\\\\20 payment terms. Installer is not local and quote is probably inflated for travel time. Issues: I have not seen these windows in person. Awaiting semi-local references.

MON-RAY: $15k. 10 yr warranty vs 5 for others. 6-8wks lead time. Awaiting formal quote and references. I have seen these windows in person and like them.

I was shocked that QP is so low (seems in line with others on Reddit that I’ve chatted with), I don’t understand why Allied/MR is more than double the cost.

I’m considering him for storm window replacement. He says he’s is licensed and insured (NYC), however when I checked the NYC site, his license expired in 2015. Will have a convo with him when I get the quote

Recently opened two different bottles (same source, new wine new bottles). Tried cutting off the first with a knife (nearly maimed myself). Second time I did the hot water/corkscrew trick and nearly ruined my screw, and the cork broke in half.

OK, it’s pretty. but I’d much rather have a seal that’s easy to zip off.
