How do I stop feeling attacked by other peoples opinions?

For example, when someone is complaining about a trait that I have, even if I can’t blame them. Or if someone disagrees with a view that is very important to me. I feel angry at first and then it fades into anxiety and shame that is hard to shake. Especially if a lot of people agree with them. It feels disheartening and also makes me question myself.

It’s temporary but it sucks that something so prevalent can put such a damper on my mood. I want to be able to consider their opinion without feeling upset by it and have it not affect my mood once I walk away. How should I work on this? I try to take a deep breath and do something to distract myself but Id rather still be able to engage, just calmer.

How do you not get overwhelmed when first driving?

Now that I’m first starting, stuff like steering, accelerating, braking, managing speed, and knowing how to be fully aware of my surroundings doesn’t come naturally. I have to constantly remind myself of them. It’s too much for my brain. It impacts my ability to make clear headed quick decisions. I know eventually they’ll be natural, but what do I do now? I’m scared of making a dangerous mistake because my brain is too occupied. How do people manage so many things at once?

Can someone explain exactly how dogs don’t feel guilt?

To preface: I trust the experts when they say dogs don’t feel guilt. But Im very curious on the specifics.

I get that they appear uncomfortable because of their owners reaction, not the action itself. But how does this apply to dogs that have never been punished if they have no negative associations?

Is a dog’s desire to please really so strong that even a hint of annoyance is enough to upset them?
Or is it more about how they instinctively know that anger usually means danger which triggers fear?

And what about dogs that appear nervous before their owner even finds out about what they did? Is it purely because their owner has had a negative reaction to them doing it in the past?

And what separates their emotions from guilt in this scenario, if feeling upset about something that you did is what guilt is? Is it because they’re thinking about how it affects them instead of how it affects you?

[TOMT][SONG] Song that sounds very similar to Sirens by Ludwig Goransson (from the Odyssey)

I feel like I’m going crazy, I initially thought the Odyssey was using a preexisting song I already knew when it started playing. Come to find out it was composed for the movie!

I feel like I’ve heard it in the background of sad/scary tiktoks wayyy before the Odyssey came out. But I can’t find any that sound similar. It’s so uncanny how familiar it is.

DAE feel stupid for not understanding media that should be simple?

On social media there’s a lot of talk about the “literacy crisis” and frustration about people not understanding media. While I know it’s directed at the school system and people who are willfully ignorant, I feel kind of stupid because I struggle with understanding media despite trying.

I’ve gotten an A in every english class I’ve taken, and I enjoy reading despite not doing it as often as I probably should. I love movies and always try to approach them with an analytical lens while still being able to have fun watching them, and then I read other people’s analyses. Despite all this, I always get confused about plot and miss important details and themes.

For example, before watching the Odyssey, I remember seeing a tweet about how Nolan seemed to think his audience was dumb because of how simply everything was laid out. I had the opposite experience when I watched it. I was confused the entire time and only really had a general idea of the plot once it was over, and apparently I missed A LOT of important things. Maybe it’s because I was missing context, as I don’t know anything about the original story. But this happens all the time to me.

DAE feel derealization when they get a head rush?

Whenever I get a head rush, I also get this brief sense that nothing is real. It’s hard to explain. Like the feeling you get when you wake up from a dream and realize it wasn’t real, but with life. And then it goes back to normal in a minute or two. Does anyone else experience this?

i don’t know how to get back into driving

i started driving with the goal of getting my license last year, but i’ve always had horrible driving anxiety. i end up having a panic attack like every other drive.

a few months ago, i really, really did not feel like driving but did it anyway because i needed practice, and i ended up making a very stupid and dangerous mistake and having a bad panic attack.

since then, i cannot bring myself to try again. the thought of it fills me with dread. but i feel so guilty about giving up and constantly depending on other people for rides, which i wont always be able to do. it’s prevented me from being able to do a lot of things.

at the same time, i also feel guilty driving because my anxiety could put other people in danger. i always drive with someone else in the car, but i make mistakes anyway and sometimes i feel like it makes it worse because of the pressure.

what do i do?

How do you keep your corgis cool in hot weather?

We’ve had a camping trip planned for over a year now, but the predicted temps for when we have it reserved keep getting higher and higher. We’re going to spend most of the time in the lake and in the shade, but my boy doesn’t like swimming. Thankfully the humidity is low and there’s a light breeze.

He’ll have his own little fan, an elevated cot bed, and some ice cubes to put under his bed and let him chew on. We also bought him an evaporating cooling vest from the brand Canada Pooch, but he’s never used one before. Do they work for your corgis? What else do you do to keep them cool?

I know it’s not in dogs’ nature to be spiteful, but…

Sometimes I swear my boy refuses to do things specifically because I want him to, even if he regularly does it on his own!

When we’re cuddling, he lets me ruffle his fur and play with his teeth and his paws, no objections. But as soon as I need to inspect him for whatever reason, it’s like he can sense that I have an ulterior motive and he won’t let me near him.

Sometimes I secretly comb him while we’re snuggling, and I can tell he likes how it feels, but as soon as he turns around and sees what I’m doing he jumps away and huffs in protest.

Like I said, he lets me lift his lips to look at his teeth and even stick my fingers in his mouth, but as soon as he realizes I’m brushing his teeth, he’s out! Is anyone else’s corgi like this? I’m losing my mind!

Anyone else embarrassed by their interest?

I suspect that I have autism but I’m embarrassed about one of my interests. It’s not anything sexual or bad, but people have decided that it’s weird and cringey I guess because of the community associated with it. I tried to not even think about it for a long time in hope that it’d go away, but that hasn’t worked.

Pretty much everyone I know thinks it’s very weird, even if they don’t have an actual hatred for it (which some people do.) I think if my friends knew about it, they wouldn’t say it outright but they’d definitely think I was weird. I’ve always felt innately different from everyone else, but I’ve learned how to fit in pretty well, maybe people notice something “off” about me, but for the most part I am an average teenage girl like all my friends. I’m just so scared to ruin that.

My friends are very accepting people and have some quirks themselves, so it’s not their fault, don’t go after them. But I still don’t want to feel like an outsider, or “the weird one.”

I have another intense interest that is somewhat related, and probably explains my interest in the other thing, but is pretty socially acceptable. Despite this, Im still seen as a little weird for it because of how intense my interest for it is. My friends call me things like a walking encyclopedia about it. I don’t feel bad about it, sure it’s a little unusual but I think it makes me different in a good way. But I bring it up to say that Im scared of being seen as even stranger.

DAE not feel any deep emotion with most music, aside from a couple of artists?

I love music so so much, but sometimes I feel like a fraud because I don’t seem to experience it as “heavily” as most people. However, there are a couple of artists that instantly make my chest feel tight when listening to any song by them.

But other than that, even if it’s an extremely sad song, I don’t feel any emotional attachment beyond “wow, I love this song” unless it’s associated with a specific poignant memory. I am a very sensitive person and I cry A LOT, but music on its own never makes me cry.

Meanwhile, most of my friends/family can cry to songs that to me are pretty upbeat. They always act like I’m a music hating psychopath when I tell them this. Does anyone else feel like this despite loving music?

Do your corgis ever arch their back like a cat?

Sometimes my boy will stretch by arching his back (like in the shape of a rainbow) as if he’s a cat. I have yet to take a picture but it looks creepy, like his back isn’t meant to bend that way! Does anyone else have a corgi who does this?

Can true crabs be kept as pets ethically?

I know it’s a bit random, but crabs (specifically true crabs) have always been a favorite animal of mine. I’d love to keep one as a pet one day, but only if it can be done ethically.

Hermit crabs are a somewhat common pet but I hardly hear about true crabs. I know it’s controversial because they’re very difficult to breed in captivity, so unfortunately most crabs in the pet trade are wild caught.

But are there any ways they can be ethically obtained and cared for? Maybe a certain species that are easier to breed, or have a breeder or two who have figured it out? Are there rescue crabs lol?

I feel “off” and I don’t know why

In the last month, I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel off. I have lots of people that I love. I have basically nothing to stress about. I go out with friends and hang out with family everyday. Im happy. But sometimes there’s just this unexplained pit in my stomach.

It’s worst in the morning and at night. When I go to brush my teeth and I stare at my reflection I feel almost empty. I don’t know how to accurately describe it. I feel angry and sad and guilty but at the same time I feel nothing.

I feel like that until there’s something to distract me. Then I can be happy and feel like a normal person. When I’m doing the mundane, the things I have to do, it feels ridiculous and wrong, like Im pretending to live when I’m already dead. Does anyone else ever feel like this?

how do i get motivation to socialize?

i’ve gotten to the point with my social anxiety where i am able to talk to people decently. my main issue is getting the motivation. i love having a good conversation, it instantly boosts my mood. but especially when i’m already burnt out, every not-good conversation drains more energy out of me. eventually i stop wanting to try because it’s easier to just stay home or go on my phone and wall sit.

i’m going to a party tonight because i want to have fun, but just the thought is exhausting me. at the last party i went to i only knew one person, and they knew everybody. i tried conversing with them and their friends for a while but wasn’t able to get many words in, so i eventually gave up and sat on my phone for the rest of it. i don’t want that to happen again but i don’t know how to prevent it. i only have so much social resilience and stamina.

TLDR: I want to socialize, but i keep getting burnt out from unsuccessful conversations. how do i prevent/work through this?

Is this suspicious? Seller wanting to send the item for free after refunding but saying I need to tell them my address.

I already read the masterlist, but this scam wasn’t specifically mentioned I don’t think, and I don’t know if it counts as giving personal information/doing the process outside of depop. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m not used to buying secondhand online 😭

How should I prepare for a test with content from 1-2 years ago?

Im in advanced high school math, but for state testing I have to take the same test as everyone else in my grade, which means it’s all material I learned about last year and the year before.

I have trouble remembering what we learned about just 1 unit ago, so i’m very worried. Technically this test doesn’t affect my GPA, but passing it is a graduation requirement and colleges sometimes look at your score. How do I prepare?

Anyone else experience mild back pain when bored?

Whether it’s doing yardwork, studying, cleaning, etc., once I start getting tired of an activity my back gets sore. Not extremely, just enough to be uncomfortable. Ive always thought it was because of being in one position for a prolonged period of time, but now that I think about it, I can sit slouched over for hours looking at my phone or drawing and not feel any back pain. It’s usually only repetitive, boring, yet draining tasks. Has anyone else experienced this?

In my high school history class, we watched a documentary on consumerism, with an emphasis on fast fashion, and one on brandy melville. I think the documentaries have made a big impact on my classmates and I, which is a good thing. But now I feel like a horrible person.

The teacher asked for a raise of hands for who had bought from shein before. Nobody raised their hand and neither did I out of shame, even though I had. Almost everyone had bought from brandy melville before, but my friends later jokingly wagged their fingers at me for wearing brandy melville shorts. I laughed it off but I felt like I was going to throw up.

I have a bunch of clothes from shein that I bought a year or two ago before I decided to stop supporting it. Now I don’t even want to wear them anymore in fear someone finds out where they’re from, even though I know that does more harm if anything. Ive decided that I’m going to shop for clothes secondhand from now on whenever possible, but I still feel so much guilt about my past purchases. I know it’s pointless, it’s not going to make me go back in time and not purchase them, but I don’t know how to stop feeling like this.

I got these shoes a couple summers ago and was able to clean them pretty good, but these little cracks/creases make them still look worn down and collect dirt. Is there any way to repair them or do I just live with it?
