Searching For A Specific Item

Hello!

I’ve only been to Sprout’s (in the metro KCMO area) one time (a dog-sitting client turned me on to the store; I’d never heard of it before), and I really enjoyed the experience. A helpful employee gave me a brief tour of overall layout and mission of the store. Unfortunately, when I was about ready to leave, I realised that my glucose level was dangerously low. I went to check-out, and a woman at the next check-out aisle asked if I was okay. I told her no and told her what the problem was. It ended up that she’s a retired ICU nurse, and she had immediately recognised the issue. We looked for things in the impulse section by the checkout, but nothing was helpful. (Darn all the healthy food at Sprout’s!)

She had some kind of snack in a small clamshell-type of container that she opened. It was dark, like maybe a chocolate-colored thing, but it wasn’t that high in sugar, so I don’t think it was actually chocolate. It was in rows of four, and there were either three or four rows of the four. She gave me one row of the four (and she generously wouldn’t let me pay her for them). They tasted vaguely oat-y, didn’t taste like they had any nuts in them, and were very dense.

The package was small - maybe 1 - 1.5” tall, 4” long, and maybe 3” wide.

I’m sorry I don’t remember anything else. But it was extremely yummy, and I’d like to get them again. I know this is extremely vague, but if anyone has any ideas about what it might have been or even which section in the store I go to so I can look for such a thing, I would sincerely appreciate it!

Restaurant Recommendation

Hey there,

Coming at you from KCMO. A friend of mine (who’s never been to MO before, and isn’t even sure where it is) will be flying into STL for a conference at the Ozarks. We haven’t seen each other for over a decade, so since he has time, I decided we should meet in Columbia for a lunch on a Thursday in a couple of weeks (around 11-ish, probably).

I’ve only driven through your fine city and have never had an actual visit, so I’m relying on you for recommendations. I’m fine with just plugging in an address in my GPS and meeting, but since he’s driving in really unfamiliar territory, I want to make it easy on him. Can you please keep in mind that he’ll be coming in from STL and will also want easy access to (probably) 63 on his way out.

I know he’s vegetarian and *might* be vegan. If you need me to confirm vegan-ism, let me know. I have a tonne of dietary restrictions, but I can usually find something at any restaurant. Since we haven’t seen each other in a long time (of course, we text and talk on the phone), a place that isn’t loud and where we can carry on a conversation would be great.

EDIT: I checked, and he’s VEGETARIAN - not vegan!!!!

I hope this isn’t too many restrictions and you can help me find something.

I appreciate your help!

Drexel’s Cost-Cutting Move

I just found out that my alma mater, the Drexel University School of Public Health, in Philadelphia, PA, FIRED someone who gave nearly THIRTY years of their life and career to the SPH with no warning, as a cost-cutting move. They were FIRED on 30 June, so they lost health care IMMEDIATELY.

If this is how they would treat a loyal, long-time employee, they will treat ANYONE this way … OR WORSE.

PLEASE share far and wide, especially with alumni who can threaten to withhold donations unless and until Drexel commits to righting this wrong AND commits to doing better for current employees.

ELI5: Why does the lineup order matter?

I’m a LONG time baseball fan, but I’ve never understood why the line-up order matters. One never knows how many batters each inning will see, so the “clean-up” position isn’t necessarily the fourth hitter after the first inning. Please explain this to me.

AITA for getting mad at my bf who refuses to listen to his doctors and common sense?

I (26 m) and my bf (19 m), yes we are gay, have been dating for about 10 months now after meeting on a dating app. It's been going really well.

I've noticed he has a major sugar addiction, he drinks soda at least twice if not more a day, I visited his dorm and it's stacked with candy, and he's always bringing treats when he comes to mine, although he stopped bringing them for me because he realized I'm mature and responsible about my health.

I didn't have an issue with it until he had a doctors appointment showing that he has a huge cholesterol (specifically high LDL) and that puts him at risk of heart disease later on (his doctor mentioned he's still young so the current risk is low. I found out because he told me and he was concerned for like a day and then goes back to eating sugar and soda all the time saying "I'm not even 20 yet I'll quit when Im 20, its not that bad Im still very young".

I told him I don't want him to drink soda and eat candy anymore, he said he can make his own decisions. I told him that if the two of us are dating, I can and should be concerned about his health. I said I want him to quit, he said no and went on about how he needs them, and I'm like "Do you hear yourself?" and I mentioned that he doesn't ever see me drink a soda unless it's once in a while and I told him maintaining his physical and mental health is important. I said I could research how to best ween him off, and he got mad at me saying that he can do whatever the fuck ever and to leave him alone and stormed out of my place, and I think he's mad cuz he won't respond to some of my texts now.

AITA?

AIW for telling my [25m] girlfriend [24f] her new hair makes her look too white

So my girlfriend is half white, half Korean and recently decided she wanted to change her hair. She has naturally long, black hair that I absolutely love (hair is honestly the most important physical feature to me, more so than any more commonly sexualized features), but I supported her decision because I didn't want to be a jerk. She decided to dye it blonde and go for a more midlength look with bangs.

As I said, I was supportive and told her it looked good, which isn't a total lie. She still looks very beautiful, but she just looks like a different person now and I don't like that. I miss her old hair. But I wasn't going to say anything and I figured she would go back to her natural look eventually on her own.

But the other night, we were having sex and I was having trouble performing, which is unusual. I was just mentally distracted and kept losing my erection. Sorry if that's TMI, but it's a necessary detail because she asked me what was bothering me/what's wrong. I told her I just had stuff on my mind, she asked if I wanted to talk about it, I said no and offered to just go down on her so she could finish. We dropped it at that for the night.

Then it happened again a few nights later, and this time she was more insistent I tell her what was bothering me, which I tried to just shut down because I didn't want to hurt her feelings. But she pushed and asked if it was something she did, and I said "not really." Which she was like "not really? What does that mean?" and I didn't know how to answer. Finally, I just decided to be honest and said I felt like I was having sex with someone else because her hair makes her look so different, but I tried to emphasize that she didn't look bad, just different, that I would get used to it.

But it did upset her anyway. She thought it meant I wasn't attracted to her anymore, but I kept insisting it was just different, not bad. She finally asked "different how? I just changed my hair," and I said "I don't know... like it makes you look too white I think. You look like someone else entirely." And that just made it worse. She was completely taken aback over the "too white" comment, which was just offhanded. I didn't mean anything by it. But she focused on that part really heavily and just kept getting more upset the more we argued to the point she got out of bed starting to cry and locked herself in the bathroom.

I tried to apologize but she was really upset, so I left her alone and went to the kitchen to get something to drink. We didn't talk the rest of the night.

The next day she was still upset but started talking about going back to her natural hair color because I "hate the way she looks" (which I never said), and we argued about it some more. She ended up going to stay with her sister for tonight, and that's where we are now.

Did I fuck up here? The comment was offhanded and I didn't mean it in a racist way or anything. I was just trying to explain why she looked like a different person with the new hairstyle.

AITA for saying my girlfriend looks like she can’t ride a bike?

my gf (28f) and me (29m) have been dating for the past 3 years. We do date Fridays every month and rotate who plans them but because it’s been 3 years I’m running out of ideas. I started brainstorming outloud for our next date night and as I was talking I said “we could rent bikes… oh if that’s okay with you”. my girlfriend was like “why wouldn’t that be okay with me”, and I said “because you can’t ride a bike”. She was super confused, and told me she knows how to ride a bike and asked me why I thought she couldn’t because everyone knows how to ride a bike. I said “I don’t know you just look like you wouldn’t know how to ride a bike”.

We got into a massive argument all night because apparently that was rude? But she genuinely looks like she’s never even seen a bike before, like iPhone face but for never having rode a bike before idk.

She went to her friends house for the next 2 days and refuses to talk to me until I apologize but I don’t think I need to apologize because it’s true. Why is she so offended by what she looks like.

27M & 32F: Accidentally offered to drunk drive my date, apologized. She went nuclear. Proportionate?

TL;DR: Drunkenly offered to drive my date home. Was left alone, called me a dumbass, told me to be better, then refused to hear my feelings at all said I deserved it while I apologized profusely. Proportionate?

I’ve been seeing a girl for about a month. We had a great night out together, drinks at nice spots, then a live show. Toward the end of the night she told me she was grabbing an Uber. I was drunk and stupidly offered to take her back to my place first and then drive her home so she can save some money. I immediately knew it was a bad suggestion and she was rightfully upset. She instantly walked off and avoided me until she left, when leaving called me a dumbass, and when we hugged she told me to ‘be better,’ then left without checking how I was getting home despite knowing I was drunk too. Mind you we are more than casual. When I texted to check in if she was alright, she doubled down. I apologized multiple times and genuinely meant it but she kept saying I ruined the night and that I’m essentially a bad person for the suggestion. I tried to explain that i was not arguing with her but acknowledging my wrongdoings and expressing my feelings at the same time since we are trying to become something more, but she said she didn’t give af. said my feelings should be hurt for suggesting it and refused to acknowledge any of my feelings during the call saying that im just trying to justify me asking if i want to take her home. Is her reaction proportionate or am I missing something?
