Kings Island this weekend 8/14 to 8/16

What's going on where hotels near Kings Island are $400/night for this weekend? Nothing is listed special events and a couple of Google searches don't turn anything up. Is this the last hurrah before school starts?

  • Will the park be crazy busy?
  • Any recommendation of other hotels within a 15 minute radius that might be a good call? Prefer the Hilton or Marriott lines.

Am I a bad person for being jealous of those that have more?

I know we're a mid sized market without an NBA team to share the arena with: but would it kill the Blues to at least replace the constant advertising boards on the concourses with TVs?

Capital One arena in Washington DC are getting these.

33 Wine Shop & Bar will close Aug. 28 after 25 years

Long article: but some highlights for those that don't want to click the link:

>“The costs were going through the roof,” Smallwood says. “We were dealing with death by a thousand cuts. And we realized, we just can’t do this anymore.”

>Across the country, alcohol consumption is down as authorities increasingly warn of its effects on health and GLP-1 medications depress appetites for not just food, but also drink. Wine has been hit particularly hard. Wine consumption in the U.S. dropped 4.3 percent in 2025, according to the International Organization of Wine and Vine. Some vineyard owners are burning their vineyards rather than lose money on their harvest. Others are selling their land.

>In St. Louis, where recreational cannabis was legalized in 2022, even some of the most committed drinkers are choosing to stay home and watch Netflix rather than spend a few hours at the bar. People in the hospitality industry are increasingly sending up distress signals (as just two examples, Robust Wine Bar closed after 19 years in Webster Groves in January, and 33’s longtime next-door neighbor, Baileys’ Chocolate Bar, closed just last month after 22 years). It’s not clear if patrons are getting the message—or if they care.

Trainwreck Saloon in Rock Hill owners selling and retiring. Closing for remodeling.

Per their Facebook page:

>As the saying goes…..all good things come to an end. At least for a while. Since 1982 George and Kris Hansford have been the owner/operators of the Trainwreck Saloon in Rock Hill, MO. The Trainwreck brand also included two other locations. Trainwreck Westport, 35 years and Trainwreck on the Landing, 10 years.

>Prior to George and Kris’ purchase, the Trainwreck had another long run as Porta’s Tavern. Porta’s was operated by three generations of Portas. To date there have been only three owners of the bar at 9243 Manchester Road since opening in 1890. That’s about to change! New ownership is on the horizon.

>This is an end of an era for us. We have preserved through floods, a fire next door, COVID and major roar repairs to Manchester Road. Trainwreck has completed it own life cycle, infancy, childhood, adolescence , young adulthood, and old age. We have celebrated all life’s miracles and milestones with our employees and customers as well as mourning the loss of many dear friends, employees and customers.

>This has been an unbelievable difficult decision and process for us. We have second guessed ourselves on every decision.

>While we should be happy to ride off into retirement, we are incredibly sad. We are counting on the new owners to continue the Trainwreck spirit and traditions. They have exciting plans and are looking forward to many more years of operating the Trainwreck in Rock Hill.

>Our last day will be Sunday 8/30/26. The Trainwreck will be closed for remolding on 8/31/26.

>It has been a pleasure serving you all these years. You are our friends. You are our family. We hope you feel the same. Without your patronage and support there would not have been a Trainwreck. Our successes are because of our employees and each and every one of you. Please know how much you are loved and appreciated. You changed all of our lives. We all thank you!

>I can’t say we did everything right, but we have sure done more right than wrong!
We love you all! George and Kris Hansford

Six Flags account renewal and home park designation loophole closure.

Twitter user TheNickSutton noticed this change in the renewal agreement and the home park designation. I guess they're going to try and catch people buying/activating at cheaper parks then mainly going to the expensive ones.

  • HH Phoenix >> Knotts Berry Farm and Magic Mountain
  • multiple options >> Cedar Point

I'm sure there are others: but you get the point.

August 7th Season Pass price roll-out for 2027 with price comparison.

So I last did this way back in November so I obviously missed some sales and other changes since. But here is a comparison of the 2026 and 2027 season passes.

  • Silver single park passes are toast except for Knott's Berry
  • Mixed changes on Gold passes
  • Price increases across the board for Prestige.
  • These are new only prices and not the renewal sales they have at some parks.

Sort is on the Prestige change.

August 7th Price Comparison of 2027 Season Passes

Went through all the remaining US Six Flags parks that aren't getting dumped off onto Enchanted. I input season pass prices since they're now extending to 2027.

Sort is on the Prestige. Color scaling is for each column independent of other columns.

(If anyone sees errors, please let me know.)

  1. Great America California is not a 2027 pass.

Any chance the band some North American dates winter/spring 2027?

I was hoping the Foo Fighters would schedule some more dates that were probably arenas for late winter/spring next year. But with the addition of the South America dates I wonder if that caps the tour off.

Just roughly the following got bypassed:

  • Atlanta
  • Carolinas
  • Texas
  • Bay Area and/or Sacramento
  • KC/St. Louis/Indianapolis
  • Seattle/Portland

Now I know you can argue that stops in Chicago, Vancouver etc should suffice for some and that people should just travel. But is this the new normal as the band ages? Are places that never/rarely got missed now going to not get stops?

Columbus Blue Jackets pick up Wheeling Nailers as ECHL affiliate starting 2027/28

>Columbus Blue Jackets President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell announced today that the Wheeling Nailers will serve as the ECHL affiliate for the Blue Jackets and the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters beginning with the upcoming 2026-27 season.  The agreement is for two years through the 2027-28 campaign.

>“We are excited to partner with the Wheeling Nailers as our new ECHL affiliate,” said Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris Clark, who oversees hockey operations for the organization’s professional affiliates.  “Wheeling has a long tradition of both player development and organizational success, and its proximity to both Cleveland and Columbus will be advantageous on the hockey side, while providing a great opportunity to promote our organization and the game throughout the region.

>“We look forward to working with Head Coach Nate DiCasmirro, his staff and the entire Nailers organization while helping the young players in our system take the next step in their development.”

>Wheeling has been a fixture in the West Virginia professional sports landscape since 1992 and served as the longtime ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins for 28 seasons from 1998-2026.  The club will compete in the ECHL’s Western Conference Central Division beginning in 2026-27 with the Bloomington Bison, Cincinnati Cyclones, Fort Wayne Komets, Indy Fuel, Kalamazoo Wings, and Toledo Walleye.

>The Nailers play their home games at WesBanco Arena.  The club has qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs 18 times, including the past three seasons, and captured its fourth division title in 2025-26, winning the North Division with a record of 46-20-3-3 (98 points).

After the brutal results for 4 and 5, what do we think happens to the Abortion/Transgender Ban Amendment 3 that will be on the ballot in November?

https://ballotpedia.org/Missouri_Amendment_3,_Prohibit_Abortion_and_Gender_Transition_Procedures_for_Minors_Amendment_(2026)

Is Amendment 3 definitely going to be on the ballot? Is there any option for the sponsors to pull it off and wait for a different election or is it locked in?

Will backers ease back on money/advertising or will it be "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"

Outside AC unit would not work. Tech coming tomorrow but leaf blower got it running.

My 13 year old central AC unit stopped working last night. I tried all the diagnostics online/You Tube including checking the capacitor which is 3 months old.

Called my HVAC company and they’re coming out tomorrow.

Decided to mow my lawn and when I was blowing grass/leaves away from the air started moving the blades and then the unit it started right up.

Anyone know what this might be?

I’m not going to cancel the service call because something is clearly up.

Comparing high level project plans and having CoPilot return a result set that lists what changes have been made.

As part of the project approval process at my work we have high level project plans of 15-20 lines loaded into Planview. Basic stuff like

  • Schedule Start
  • Schedule Finish
  • Predecesors
  • Actual Start
  • Actual Finish
  • Constraints
  • Action Type
  • Owner

Nothing too complex.

What I am trying to do is compare baselines to know what changes have been made. I have screenshots and Excel downloads of what was initially input. Now that we are a few weeks into the approval effort I want to see the differences/updates.

The problem is I have asked Copilot to compare screenshot to screenshot and Excel download to Excel download. However it is not catching the changes or returning unusable results.

Can anyone recommend a prompt that will simply list the differences?

Bartender question about crowd

I am a lead bartender at one of the arenas trying to plan for an upcoming Benson Boone shows. Unfortunately we have a number of bosses on vacation or trying to recover from World Cup work so no info has come down to us yet.

I know this won't be a power drinking country music or Gen X rock band concert so I'm not worried about alcohol and beers. I assume I should pre-stock as much water and soda as possible?

Also, does everything have to go into cups or are they letting guests keep containers? We also haven't gotten that word yet.

Drunk Morgan Wallen fan urinates on family at Baltimore concert. Police refuse to arrest the man.

A chaotic scene unfolded at Morgan Wallen’s concert this weekend at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. A man, apparently caught up in the “Still the Problem” energy, allegedly treated the crowded area as his personal restroom—urinating directly on a nearby family that included young children.

Shocked concertgoers watched as the family confronted him, sparking a confrontation that eventually drew security into the fray. According to Troy Grevelding, one of the victims who later posted about the incident, police responded but ultimately released the man without charges. Grevelding, his wife, brother, and their 8-year-old niece were all reportedly urinated on during the show.

Smoking and vaping at Cedar Point

We’re on a tear this summer since our home park is Six Flags/Enchanted St. Louis and we’re getting kicked out of the cool kids club. So far this summer we’ve visited Great America Gurnee, Kings Island, Worlds of Fun, SF-Georgia and just wrapped up 2 days at Cedar Point.

I’m not some pearl clutching Karen, but what’s up with all the smoking and vaping everywhere at Cedar Point? Walking around, in restaurants and in wait lines? Is it just more prevalent in this area of Ohio?

The worst example had to have been the mother and two daughters vaping at a table in Starbucks.

EDIT: the Six Flags people should look at Silver Dollar City in Branson Missouri. Pretty much every ride group has a smoking/vaping area. They’re all over that park and as a result nobody smokes in lines, walking around, indoors etc.

Did Schnucks get rid of the Caper Smart carts at all of their stores?

The Richmond Heights store taped them off back in April or May and then looks to have taken them fully out a few weeks ago.

I was okay with them. They were especially nice when first rolled out as they offered all sorts of special coupons and offers. Like use them twice and get $5 back and other stuff.
