Finally dropped in on Cassis Bake, after they've been open for a solid 5 years. Enjoyed some of their baked goods at a matcha festival at the JCCC two years back.

Japanese owned, their baked goods are a little rustic and not especially IG-trendy, but we enjoyed all the items we ordered here today.

The matcha mochi cake w azuki beans was not-too-sweet, and the beans themselves were lightly salted, making for a fun sweet-savory-earthy combo, working well w the matcha. Fun texture to it.

The mini maple butter tart - tart shells thin and very made in-house with craggly uneven edges. It doesn't ooze with butter nor is it overly brown sugar sweet -- I enjoyed the more muted sweetness you get maple syrup. The tarts are avail with or without currants.

The lemon tart, we loved the buttery tart shell. The lemon filling had good tartness, but the shell was the standout - heavy-handed with the butter, craggy and crunchy, I think they could have added a bit of flaky salt to the shell to perk it up even more, but probably our second fave item of the visit.

Rhubarb season is wrapping up, so felt appropriate to try their rhubarb tart. They use a soft laminated dough for the crust, rather than a hard pastry shell. Rustic, tangy - I think the strawberry rhubarb tart also on on display might be better?

We saw a sign saying closing on a month; they're at the end of their 5 year lease, and they'll have to figure out where to relocate to after this final month.
