Getting back into fencing after 20(ish) years away...

I (M38) started fencing when I was 11 and continued until I was 17. I used to regularly coach children and adults (BAF Qualified), and nearly went down that route for a career, but decided against it.

I did a bit here and there at University, then stopped completely in my 3rd year.

I started up again in 2016, but that only lasted 3 months as my daughter was born.

I've recently reached out and found a local club, and I'm going to go back for my first session on Thursday.

The club is predominantly Sabre and Epee whereas I used to primarily fight/coach foil with some sabre with the adults.

I'm mostly looking for any advice at getting back into it after such a time away. Being nearly 40 is likely going to take some time to adjust?!

Is now a really bad time to buy Necromunda?

A few friends and I play Kill Team, and have always liked the narrative side.

We've always considered Necromunda, but jumping in at the deep end was very intimidating (I looked at the rule book in the GW store and was put off immediately).

Following the recent GW preview and the announced "reset" I'm/we're wondering whether now is a good time to get into the game.

I've looked at the Van Saar (assuming role of cool also applied to Necromunda) and I see the models are 8 years old?

Are there likely to be new releases soon? Apologies, I know very little here, so sorry if I'm asking a stupid question.

Where can I learn to use the software?

I've had my Anycubic Kobra X for a month or so, and so far I've pretty much used the default settings. I've changed the "quality" dropdown once or twice, and also checked the "supports" box once or twice.

How can I learn to better use the software? Is there a decent tutorial for it online, explaining what the different settings mean, and when it's appropriate to change them?

What is this on the Blade Master's arm?

Apologies, I'm sure it's been asked multiple times before, but the search didn't yield any useful results.

Any idea what this is on the arm?

Horizontal Scrolling with the MX Vertical

I've been using the Logi Lift when working at home, and have recently retired my MX Master at work in place of an MX Vertical (hoping it would have MagScroll, but it doesn't).

I can't see any way to horizontal scroll with the MX Vertical?

It's an option for the Lift in Logi Options+, but not for the Vertical.

Am I missing something?

Some people have said that holding shift and vertical scrolling works, but that's not a real fix.

This appears to be a software limitation?

I've tried assigning shift to the Scroll Speed button, but holding that and vertical scrolling still doesn't horizontal scroll?

I appear to have paid a lot more for the vertical, and it does less than both my MX Master and the Lift?!

MagSpeed Vertical Mouse option?

I've recently moved from an MX Master to both a Logi Lift (at home) and a Logi Vertical (at work).

This has improved my wrists no end... but I REALLY miss the MagSpeed scrolling.

Is there a vertical product that has this?

My wife has just completed her 10k race, and is now looking to build towards her HM in September.

Is there a plan for this?

Why is Outlook still autocorrecting this "spelling mistake"?!

I'm typing "UoP" intentionally, and it keeps autocorrecting to "Up".

I have gone to the settings in Outlook and disabled "Disable Spelling Automatically".

I've also made a Text Replacement rule on MacOS that sets UoP as UoP, but it's still happening.

It doesn't do it in Apple Notes or non MS software.

What questions do you ask before a game?

I was playing a casual game against the Raveners the other day, and my last activation was to move onto the point for Stake Claim, and my opponent then told me that their Prime had Neuropredatory Crest (Whenever determining control of a marker, treat the total APL stat of enemy operatives that contest it as 1 lower if at least one of those enemy operatives is within 3" of this operative).

He was a super good sport, admitted that it was an unintentional gotcha, didn't want to play like that and let me take the play back.

It did get me thinking though... what questions do you ask your opponents before a game?

I've got a few, eg do you have Seek/Seek Light or any way to ignore obscuring etc.

What weapon is this?

UPDATE: Apologies all... please excuse my ignorance. It's not a carbine, so not a good fit for the Phobos Strike Team.

Thanks all who responded.

----------

I'm trying to cobble together a Phobos Strike Team for new players to our "club" and have this seemingly old free model.

I'm trying to workout which of the weapon profiles it matches best?

- Marksman bolt carbine
- Custom bolt carbine
- Occulus bolt carbine
- Stalker marksman bolt carbine
- Bolt carbine

Black Templar AoD help

I'm creating an AoD Kill Team that that our "club" can utilise for new players to learn the game.

I've got parts put together to make some Black Templars as well as the BT upgrade box and a load of spares from Deathwatch and Reivers.

Two main questions:

  1. Do I have the models a new player will use over the course of a few games.

  2. What are the BT equivalent for sergeants/vetrans etc? Some parts have skulls on and some of the BT appear to have Red accents rather than white?

What else to get with a new printer?

I was just about to hit "buy" on the Bambu A1, but don't want to support them with their recent shenanigans, so I've decided to pick up the Anycubic Kobra X instead.

I'm wondering if there's anything else that I should pick up with it?

I'm obviously going to get some PLA, but is it worth me getting a different nozzle for terrain printing?

Shoulder pad logic?

I've seen the post recently listing which chapter each shoulder pad is for, but I was wondering if there was any rhyme or reason as to which shoulder pads match up with which model?

I've got the 10 from the Kill Team Tombworld box and hoping to magnetise the Gravis.

I'm new but starting to get quite into 40k Lore and would like some kind of accuracy.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

FWIW I'm also building up a Black Templar AoD Kill Team.

Identify this part?

Is anyone able to help me identify what this is? (New to Spacemarines)

Retired Deathwatch

I've recently got two DW Kill Team boxes, and trying to catch up on some lore.

I think I read that once a solider has served in DW they could theoretically return and command another unit they used to be in, like the Salamanders etc.

Is this the case, and if so is there any lore on their armour when they "retire"?

Do they keep the shoulder pads or insignia etc?

I'm building up an AoD Kill Team for new players to use when they first join our "club", and I've received some Black Templar Crusaders as part of a trade with a friend.

I was wondering if there were any suggestions on what else I could paint them up as, as I'm not really vibing with their lore (silly I know, but rule of cool).

The main issue is the tabards - so I'm looking for other factions that might wear similar.

I'm considering buying the Upgrades and Transfers from GW, or get something 3D printer.

I looked at Imperial Fists as an option, but open to any other tabard laden suggestions!

I'm just looking to make my first AoD team for Kill Team and I'm just wondering if there's a reason that a space marine would have a red helmet?

Whenever I search for it, I end up with Blood Angels results.

My friend and I were playing on the Descent Map #1 on Saturday, and we were unsure if you could dash between Killzones?

It says that you can climb the marker for 3”.

Given that they define and upper Killzone (Volkus) and lower Killzone (Tomb World) in the description, it makes sense that you are climbing up from Tomb World to Volkus.

But can you drop with a dash (if you’re starting on the upper Killzone and moving down to the lower one)?

Would you still get 2” remaining dash movement here (as the first 2” drop are free)?

Or can you only climb down?

(I’ve also wondered if you can climb down a ladder previously and was told no)
