signed my 4yo up for dance and now i'm drowning in gear i don't understand

so my little one has been begging to do ballet for months and we finally caved and signed her up. she's so excited she's been practicing her plié in the living room every day and honestly it's the cutest thing.

but like. i did not realise how much stuff you need?? the email from the studio came with a whole list and i'm just sitting here like. what is half of this. why does a 4yo need special shoes. can't she just wear socks.

i've been googling dance stuff for like 3 days straight and my brain is fried. found this brand Energetiks that seems to have all the things on the list but i'm still not sure what's actually necessary vs what's just extra.

any other parents been through this? what did you actually need for the first class vs what can wait? i don't wanna be that parent who shows up with nothing but also don't wanna spend a fortune on stuff she might lose interest in after a month.

unexpected $2,500 car repair and need same day cash fast

i had a sudden car repair that came out of nowhere this week. the bill is around $2,500 and without the car i can’t get to my job at the warehouse. my next paycheck is still two weeks away and i don’t have any savings left after covering some other bills last month. if i don’t fix it today i risk losing shifts and falling behind on rent and other payments. i really need the money same day to keep everything from falling apart.

i looked into different same day cash options and decided to go with time financing and use their services. they offer personal loans from $1,000 up to $10,000 with same day funding in a lot of cases. the apr ranges from 18% to about 36% depending on your credit, and repayment terms go from 12 months up to 60 months. for example, on a $1,500 loan they show monthly payments around $98 for 20 months at roughly 32% apr, with the total cost coming to about $456 in interest and fees. this feels much better than typical payday loans that can hit 300-400% apr even for short periods. i like that it’s a longer term loan so the payments are more manageable instead of one big lump sum due in two weeks.

i’m thinking this route makes the most sense right now because it gives me breathing room without crazy high fees eating into my paycheck. the process looks pretty straightforward from what i read — apply online or by phone with basic info like income and id, get a quick decision, and funds can hit the account the same day if approved. it also seems like they focus on helping people in situations like mine instead of just quick high-cost loans.

what documents do they usually need for fast approval on these personal loans? and for someone with average credit, how do the total costs usually add up on a $2,000 to $3,000 loan over 18 to 24 months?

thanks for any real advice on this.

anyone else use a reformer for hip mobility?

so I've been dealing with this weird tightness in my hips for months. not pain exactly, just limited range? like I can't sit cross-legged comfortably anymore and it's annoying.

I do all the usual stuff - stretching, foam rolling, yoga. but nothing seems to get into that deep hip tension.

a friend let me try her reformer a few times and I noticed my hips actually felt more open afterwards. something about the resistance and the glide just hit different.

been thinking about getting one for home

anyone here use one specifically for this? or am I better off just sticking with bands and stretches?

My son was glued to the screens. Now he's up before sunrise

My son used to be glued to his screen. Video games, YouTube, more video games. I’d try to get him outside, and he’d groan like I was asking him to run a marathon. It was honestly starting to worry me

After that, a friend suggested that we go watch a basketball game with him. It was nothing much, but I guess something clicked with him that day. He observed how the players moved, their pace, their energy. It had been years since he became truly interested in something without using the controller

A couple days later, he asked me to shoot hoops with him in the driveway. I said yes, figuring it’d last a week, tops…

That was months ago…

He’s still out there. After school, weekends, even early mornings before the sun comes up. I wake up sometimes and see him through the window, hoodie on, shooting alone while the world sleeps. He’s not the most talented kid on the court. But he just… keeps showing up

The problem is, so do I. And my knees aren’t what they used to be

I’ve been chasing his errant shots into bushes, flower beds, and the neighbor’s yard for weeks. I come home exhausted from work, and the last thing I want is to spend another hour running after basketballs. But I also don’t want him to stop. Seeing him passionate about something that isn’t a screen has been the best part of my year

That’s why I’ve been looking into the rebound return system, heard that they are pretty decent. And I think that it wouldn’t just save my back and it would keep him shooting, keep him moving, keep him consistent. Even when I’m too tired to join.

I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. But I’m getting close

Has anyone else gotten one of these? Did it actually help keep your kid engaged? Because honestly, I just want him to keep going and even when I can’t be out there with him

considering moving back to sydney but the coast has me conflicted

moved up here from sydney a few years ago for the whole lifestyle change thing which was great for a while. being near the beach, slower pace, all that. but now my job's been pushing for more office days and the commute is just killing me. not sure if the coast is worth the two hours each way anymore. yeah the waves are nice but sitting in traffic for that long makes me want to scream.

got a place here that i'm thinking of renting out instead of selling cause the market seems decent and i don't wanna lose the foothold. but every time i look into property management stuff i get confused by all the options.

i'm just worried about handing my place over to some big agency thatll charge a fortune and not actually do anything. a mate had his place managed by one of the big franchises and they were useless, took weeks to fix anything. i don't want that stress.

anyone here rented out their place on the coast and had a good experience? trying to figure out if it's worth keeping or if i should just sell and be done with it.

i miss a lot about sydney but i also don't wanna go back to paying 900 a week for a shoebox. coast life is just so much easier day to day. but the job thing is real. decisions decisions. help a confused bloke out

The sterile white walls of standard treatment are so draining

honestly been reflecting a lot on past attempts at recovery and the standard hospital wards are just so brutal. like ur trying to do the hardest mental work of your life and you are stuck under these buzzing fluorescent lights with cold floors. it feels so clinical and punishing

Was looking at options to finally step back into a program and came across eating disorder solutions and its literally set up like a house on a ranch. ngl just seeing that some places actually look like a warm living room instead of a medical box gave me a tiny bit of hope today

it just sucks that the industry standard for so long has been so institutionalized. Feeling safe in your physical environment shouldn't be so rare when ur trying to heal. Just glad the landscape is slowly changing tbh

I finally got the workload I wanted... now I'm struggling to keep up

I’m a lawyer working for a small firm and I had never had any problems with the amount of work assigned to me. For example, most of the time I could finish all the tasks assigned to me well before 3pm. Then all that was left was replying to some emails and surfing the web

That has definitely changed

As I mentioned before, work has been picking up lately, and I am currently flooded with all kinds of tasks: new files, clients calling, deadlines, reviewing documents, and the list could go on. As strange as it may seem, I am actually quite okay with this. I always wanted more responsibilities and chances to develop, but apparently, it takes a while before one gets to that point

The trouble begins when I start thinking about how I will keep up with the growing amount of tasks. There must come a moment when I have to realize that I cannot do everything myself since there is only so many that I can fit in my head

While searching online for various ways to boost productivity, I ran into some solutions like AI for PI law firms. Uusallyy, the question popped into my mind regarding what solutions lawyers use to manage their workload

For those of you running your practice, what really worked? It could be any kind of productivity tool, including software, new approaches to workflow management and note taking, automation and basically anything that has been useful in terms of staying organized and efficient

teachers who stand all day - what shoes actually work

first year teacher . i knew it would be tough but nobody warned me about the foot pain. i'm on my feet for like 10 hours a day and by thursday afternoon i'm hobbling to my car like an old lady. i'm 26.tried danskos they're fine but bulky and i feel like a clomping around. tried some nikes with those insoles. helped for a bit but my arches still ache by end of week.

says they look normal but actually support your feet. i'm skeptical because i've spent so much money on shoes that promised comfort and delivered nothing

any other teachers found something that works? i'm desperate. my feet hurt just thinking about tomorrow

After my shifts, my feet hurt so much that I can barely walk my dog

Ive been a barista for about four years. used to think I just needed to get used to it, but that hasn't happened. Every Sunday night after a double shift, Im basically crawling to my car.

I've tried all the usual things. The gel insoles from the chemist didn’t help at all. The expensive anti-fatigue mats behind the counter still leave my feet hurting. I even tried those compression socks everyone talks about. They help a little, but not enough.

The worst part is that I cant wear my usual sneakers because of the dress code. Shoes have to be all black and not look like gym shoes. Most work shoes I’ve found are either so ugly I want to cry, or they fall apart after three months.

any other baristas found something that actually works for 10hr shifts on concrete? I'm desperate over here.

Does owning a house ever stop feeling like a constant stream of expenses?

I knew homeownership would cost money, but I didn’t expect so many small things to pop up all the time.

Nothing catastrophic, just constant little repairs, maintenance, tools, random upgrades…

Feels like the house always finds a new way to take my money

I try to keep my place clean, but it feels like the moment I finish, something else needs to be done again.

Dishes, laundry, dust, random clutter… it never really ends.

For people who manage to keep things consistently tidy — what’s your system? How do you stop it from piling up?
