Returning from Antigravity, Claude Code confusion
I used PyCharm for about a decade, but let it slide a couple years ago, I just didn't have much coding to do. I started using Claude Code last summer and then got Antigravity when it was released, despite my misgivings about anything VSCode related.
Antigravity had stabilized, it was doing what I needed, but via the Claude Code extension. The other models Google offered were uninspiring and it just seemed to me that Claude acted better on its own. Today with the release of Antigravity 2.0 I got the message loud and clear - whatever I was doing in the moment takes a back seat to Google's grand AI strategy. This 'upgrade' removed all of the things I used and left me stranded with their AI agent - the thing I immediately closed every time it appeared.
I had seen the JetBrains apology video a couple weeks ago and had the Toolbox installed. I had not taken the final step, just have too much going on to lose a day reacquainting with PyCharm and converting all the things. But Google forced the issue.
So here I sit, having lost a day to this, and as midnight closes in I'm trying to get back to something like what I had. I've just discovered the Claude icon at the top right gives me access to my Claude, but I have two questions.
The icon produces a Claude terminal window, but what I want is something like the PyCharm AI chat, only using my Claude Pro login. I bet there is some issue with using a harness vs. plain terminal, I know Anthropic has been changing things. Is there a way to get this done? There are a LOT of Claude interface options in plugins, I suspect more than one addresses this problem, but which is best?
I got an Ollama Pro account last month just to see what it was and it's proven useful to wrap Claude Code with it like this:
ollama launch claude --model deepseek-v4-flash:cloud
Their cloud plan is $20/month and you can try various frontier models. I'm combining this with the TrailOfBits second-opinion skill, I find this will surface bugs that Claude misses. I would very much like to exercise this further, but it's not clear how to get PyCharm to use the Ollama models. Doing this is key long term, I don't yet have enough GPU to run models locally, but that is coming.
This is far from perfect, but rather than some marketing committee mess wrecking my work day (begone, Google), I'm left with the feeling that my knowledge is lacking. That is *comforting*, feels like the FOSS way, like if I just dig a little bit I'll get a workable answer.
So thanks, JetBrains, I'm sorry I ever strayed in the first place.
gut pressure triggering episodes
My MCAS manifests entirely with digestion. Anything to do with food, coming or going, can set it off. Episodes start within two to five minutes, hands/feet/face go numb, I feel a bit dopey/unsteady on my feet, then my attention span and working memory both plunge.
Prior to treatment this meant two to four hours out cold, and then possibly waking up from the recovery process and being tired. Since treatment (Cromolyn, ketotifen, and luteolin today) this stuff still happens, but the intensity and duration are reduced. I can often just shrug it off by doing low mental energy tasks for a bit, or get up and walk it off.
Today I thought I had to go, so off to the bathroom. Nothing works as one would expect, because MCAS, so it was a false alarm. But merely attempting to go has set off the strongest episode I've had this month.
I'd have previously described changes in gut volume as being the triggering event, but this was purely pressure, and it's set things off. Does this sound at all familiar to anyone else?
Replacing Dahon D6 - what to do
My year old Dahon D6 was stolen from inside my home via a closed but unlocked back door about six months ago. I've since moved out of Junkieville and into some nice digs, but the road from here to BART is outside my "just walk it" radius.
I went looking on Amazon and the enshittification is eye watering. Put in Dahon as the brand, get mobbed with SEO from other vendors, and it won't even offer a brand filter unless you're super specific about the model you want. Absolute fail.
I want a 20" folder. I have an old neck injury so the handlebars have to adjust to sit upright. My stolen Dahon also had a nice set of panniers for shopping. I guess this means I need a package rack. I will ride when it's wet so gotta have fenders. Must be multi-speed, I actually go five to ten miles on some expeditions.
The stolen bike cost $400, I guess with tariffs and wars of choice and such I better figure on $500 for the limit now.
I see unfamiliar names in the search results that fill me with the urge to yell at them about being on my lawn. Are any of these strangers worth owning? Am I self-sabotaging by not being willing to spend another $100?
And for the brass ring ... is there a shop within a mile of ANY BART station where I could purchase such a thing?
Brain Fog Battles
I caught Lyme in 2006 or 2007, got diagnosed and treated in 2008, and by 2010 MCAS had me firmly in its grip. I got little relief until I put Claude AI to work on the problem last July.
The big battles all along have been brain fog and episodes so severe they looked like narcolepsy. The first improvement I ever got was 2022, when I started using Noopept aka omberacetam. This is a neuropeptide commonly used in Russia to treat post stroke brain damage. I've always been a Mahjong Solitaire player, when I started taking Noopept my times plunged from pretty good to nipping at the heels of record holders. There was an immediate, measurable improvement. Keep in mind I'm almost sixty.
Getting on Allegra/Pepcid, then luteolin/quercetin, and finally Cromolyn/ketotifen has been ... I'm not cured, but what would have been an hours long nap four years ago is now just half an hour of feeling blah and getting up to walk it off. The trigger is almost always food.
Except today, when I'd eaten nothing, and I took my 5mg of Cromolyn dose, fifteen minutes later I was feeling dopey, with hands/feet/face going numb, the classic episode symptoms I've faced for years. That was two hours ago, and while I avoided a nap, I'm still feeling it.
I get that MCAS is an eternal tightrope to walk, but I really dislike this situation where the cure also causes problems. I'm going to give it a couple more days and try Cromolyn w/o eating anything at all. If it keeps happening, I guess it's not for me.
The Unsloth website 1) lacks a native dark mode in the year 2026 and 2) it actively subverts the Dark Reader extension I use in Chrome, insisting on an eye searing white background.
I want to try Unsloth Studio enough that I went looking for a way to disable this abomination and I just discovered that Chrome has a dark mode setting. That did the trick.
chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark
If coming to this website had been my first introduction to Unsloth, I would have immediately written off the whole thing. The inability to employ dark mode is the equivalent of walking into a cell phone store, having the employee slap you first, and then ask how they can help.
Seriously, it's a ridiculous misfeature. Please correct it.
Earlier this evening I was walking along 16th Street in San Francisco, not far from Mission, and there were a small group of cars stopped at a light, a Waymo among them. A group of kids - I think twentysomethings out carousing, crossed in front the Waymo, then stopped.
The two boys leaned on the Waymo's hood in "cool" poses, while the girl stepped back and took their picture. Then one of the boys hopped up on the Waymo's hood and made like he was surfing.
And then he noticed there was a passenger in the back ...
All three were instantly mortified, and then politely standing to the passenger side of the car, apologizing profusely to the person in back, then the traffic started to move.
This was just such a quintessential late night San Francisco experience I had to share ...
