Hello all, i’m from the USA and in March i will be traveling to Norway to see lots of black metal music history and see the town of oslo. Also planning on going further north to see the northern lights. Anyway, i would love to be able to speak norwegian so i can talk to people who live there, read signs, etc. I know lots of people speak english but i am very interested in the language and also listen to lots of black metal with Norwegian lyrics and would love to be able to understand them. What might be the best way to go about studying the language and teaching myself? I tried duolingo for a few days but it wasn’t helpful at all and I wasn’t retaining any of the information. Any advice is appreciated!

I’m not even sure if the title is quite accurate - but i’m looking for stuff that just has a beautiful atmosphere and incredibly melodies, i am obsessed with Arntor by Windir and In The Nightside Eclipse by Emperor. I love the unique production on both albums as well. I love the folky bits that windir has especially during Arntor Ein Windir and The Struggle. Looking forward to hearing your recommendations!

First of all, this is NOT a post seeking validation / asking if I have underground taste, blah blah blah etc. Anyway I’m just curious where other people draw the line between mainstream and underground, for me it all depends. Take death metal for example. Cannibal Corpse and Death are mainstream for sure. Then you’ve got sort of the next level down: Gorguts, Suffocation, Pestilence, Massacre, Autopsy, etc. By general standards these are not mainstream, go ask randoms on the street who they are and most won’t have a clue. However, if you’re into death metal, everyone knows these bands. They’re big names in the scene. But then there’s also the stuff that I think is really, truly underground and unpopular, which is more the stuff that is unique to one’s music taste. I love Embalmer, Creepmime, Reinfection, Severe Torture, Splatterhouse, the list goes on. I’m not saying lots of other people don’t love these bands, but it’s stuff that isn’t well known and I’ve gone out of my way to find it regardless. Looking for music like that really brings me a lot of joy. Just wondered what other people’s opinion on this was! Would love to hear more thoughts in the comments.

I'm sick as shit lying in bed and need a good laugh. What are the funniest interactions you've had with people about your band shirts? Reactions to gore, offensive band names, anything! I'll go first - when I first started driving I went to pick up my friend for a sleepover. His mom was super religious and didn't like me very much. I was exhausted because I didn't sleep well so I was a bit out of it. She tried to show me their music room in their house knowing I played in a band. While I was in there, she pulled my friend outside and started asking if I was high and did drugged, and why I had a shirt on that said "Drying Fetus" 🤣🤣🤣

Thought I'd make a post to rant a bit and also discuss and hear other's opinions on this. But merch is so fucking expensive. I went on Hell's Headbangers earlier to order 2 t shirts, $19.99 each. Then i get to my total with taxes and shipping and it comes out to 80 dollars??? And the cheapest shipping is 15$?? I went to Relapse records to get an Exhumed t shirt and it was 24.99 to start with and after shipping and all that i was about at 40 dollars. Vinyl is expensive as shit too. Seems shipping is more the issue but this is still all so absurd to me. This shit costs just as much as a lot of metal concert tickets do. It's insane. Would love to hear some opinions and discuss this because it has my blood absolutely boiling. They must think I can shit gold and piss Angel tears. Holy shit.

Edit: I am primarily complaining about the costs of shipping, taxes, etc. I think anywhere from 15-25 dollars is a good price for a t shirt, and maybe up to 35 if you get it at a show instead of online.

Every time i visit Savannah i go to Grave face because they always have lots of metal. But today their selection is much smaller and they really don't have anything. Are there any other stores with a good death/thrash/black/ metal selection?

Looking for some bands similar to Embalmer. Raw, gritty production, weird shrieking vocals, overall insanity. I would go listen to black metal but i want to hear death metal riffs.

I'm on vacation in Hilton head right now but there is basically nothing to do and no one to hang out with. Everyone looks like a generic family copied and pasted from the Sims. Anyway, I see Savannah isn't far and i'm looking for some record stores, thrift stores, clothing stores, or really anything related to alternative or metal music. Somewhere to meet and hang out with other people would be cool as well.

Is there ANYWHERE on this island where more alternative people hang out or go? Anywhere focused on metal music or anything of the sort. I have not seen a single person here that doesn't look like they were copied and pasted in the Sims.

Looking for some brutal death metal that is just total speed chaos. Almost like white noise. No melody no structure or anything. The one band i can think of that comes close to this sound is Reinfection and maybe early Cryptopsy.

I really love that almost groovy but still brutal deathgrind that exhumed plays and the technical stuff like on The Archaic Abattoir by Aborted (Love the first 2 as well) Dead Wreckoning is one of my favorite songs ever. I also love the dual vocal screams (high/low scream layered together). I also love splatterhouse, benighted, general surgery, pharmacist, etc.

I saw a bunch of records in a store the other day with a circular white sticker in the corner but I can't remember what it said. There was early morbid Angel, the classic 3 Darkthrone albums, first 2 paradise lost, and first 2 entombed albums and more I can't remember. They were all over 40$ and looked like high quality pressings but I can't find them online anywhere. Does anyone know what im talking about? I took a picture of one but when i got home i realized it was completely blurry.

I'm looking for some music that is just raw, disgusting, and sounds like pure pain. I love A Blaze In The Northern Sky by Darkthrone, Inri by Sarcofago, Possessed Seven Churches, and Septisemesis by Senthil. Doesn't have to be black metal or death metal or any genre just stuff that sounds raw and like whoever made it was in absolute torturous pain. Also before anyone recommends Nickelback they are too heavy for me
