How similar is the fashion industry to the fashion doll industry?

I'm going to be studying fashion design as that is a requirement for many fashion doll centered careers (Mattel for example) but I was wondering how much overlap really is there between the two careers? Is the fashion doll career as brutal as the fashion career?

We need to talk about the Marilyn Monroe doll

Not only does the face look NOTHING like her, they also changed her entire body type???? Marilyn Monroe was curvy!
