GK3 pro- temp

GK3 pro- temp

Hi folks. Anyone got any suggestions to why I’m getting this error? You can see the temp is around 26’, heating is on etc.

Missed opportunity polestar

Playing Gran Turismo and slapped a coat of rebel blue on my polestar 5. I feel like if there was any model they could reinvigorate that colour on, it’s the 5. Looks great.

LE over reach

Keen to get everyone’s take on this, because personally, I’m conflicted. I’ve posted in r/forensicscience too, so hope it’s not against crosspost rules.

Most of us in forensics work within or adjacent to police or law enforcement agencies. We also have the privilege of being servants to science and knowing to be impartial and objective, led by facts rather than subjective assessment.

There’s a lot in the media recently about the overreach of police surveillance and I’d like your input/s on 2 things that are intelligence tools that intersect with forensic science:
\- Forensic genetic genealogy
\- CCTV (specifically ANPR/facial)

Both have come along leaps and bounds in recent years, and both stand to link innocent citizens to criminal activities due to their lack of specificity. For example, FIGG might link you through genealogy, despite it being a sibling or closely related family member. ANPR might detect a pattern of driving that LE consider to be suspicious and warrant further investigation.

While we know that neither of these are evidentiary tools, they do put innocent people on the radar for offences unrelated to them, and thus open up the door to potential errors or miscarriages. That’s not even to mention the misuse by rogue officers.

I used to be of the mind that basically everyone should be on a FP or DNA database because “if you didn’t do anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about”, but as I’ve grown older, have kids, I’ve softened on this to the point where I’m on the fence. I’ve seen police misuse of systems. I’ve seen police take a suggestive forensic result and treat it as a smoking gun.

What’s everyone’s take?

CarPlay and Apple Music

Hi all. I’ve got a frustration with Apple Music in CarPlay for my polestar 2. Wondering if it’s a quirk of my system or CarPlay wide. When I’m listening to a playlist or curated list and a song I like comes on, I want to browser to the artist to select more songs by them, but can’t. I can tap the album to navigate to the full album, but the artist name isn’t a hyperlink, preventing it. See pic. Green lines are tappable, red are not.

Is this the case in all versions? My old alpine head unit with CarPlay didn’t have this issue.

New Mods- looking forward to tidying this sub up

Hi all

As a brief introduction, I'm one of the new mods for this sub and I'm looking forward to making it a better resource for both practising and future forensic scientists as well as the broader community with an interest in our field.

I've got a few plans for things to come but starting immediately is a weekly megathread for "Study Options" to try and cut down the volume of posts from those looking for a career in forensic science. Theres also a few auto mod tools I've set up to prevent off topic posts, so if anything isnt working properly, or you have suggestions, I'm open to feedback (not a typical reddit mod).

Personally im a forensic scientist with extensive career in forensic biology and major crime scene work. If your comfortable to, please feel free to introduce yourselves in the comments below. Ill be setting up flair for posts and people as a way to express our expertise or interests.

Heads up- Reddit ban

Apparently adding “pole” to any slur will cop you a Reddit auto ban so just be aware coz I copped one for this comment.

PHEV charger frequency

Looking for a soundboard here. Im a battery EV driver and my workplace has a couple of 22kw charging bays that are free to use for staff with a 4hr limit. Back in the days it was great, because there was a small pool of users and we could basically utilise a group chat to see who needed them and when. There’s hundreds of staff here, so it’s not like you can just shout across the office.

Now with the explosion of BEV and PHEV sales it’s pretty much being used all day every day and is tricky to get a spot. Plugshare helps but people don’t seem to honour the “waiting” status and just grab a bay when it’s free. To top that off, we have 2-3 PHEV drivers that seem to consider them their own personal bays, get in early and charge EVERY DAY. On average I use 1x 4hr slot a week but to achieve that I’m best to let mine get low (20%ish) before plugging in which means when I need to charge, I’m getting reasonably urgent for that.

What do you folks think of PHEV owners plugging in daily to free chargers? In my mind, if you don’t want to use any petrol, you probably bought the wrong car. Seems like a typical example of a few ruining it for everyone and if it gets escalated as a problem might get outsourced to a third party for fee.

Curious, what’s the oldest surviving appliance in your house RIGHT NOW?

Was staring at my microwave the other day and realised it must be almost 20yrs old. Along with the pepper grinder posts it got me thinking, what’s the oldest appliance you have? I’m not talking sandwich press that gets pulled out once a year. Here’s the rules:

Device has to be used at least once a week.

Doesn’t have to be electrical, provided it’s mechanical or electrical to some degree (not a knife).

Tell us how old it is.

Go.

EDIT: wow! That went off

Thoroughly entertaining show. The kids had a blast and I think there a bit of something for everyone.

Good to see they still got the touch.

Advice on high resolution

Hi all. I’m trying to generate scientific prototypes in around the 20um resolution scale. For proof of concept I need the printer to be around the consumer price ballpark, with plans to go more industrial after demonstrating PoC.

I’ve done FDM printing but resin printers are a new world to me. I think I’ve narrowed down to a few that can achieve what I want (all 16k):
- creality halot x1
- uniformation GK3 pro
- phrozen sonic mighty revo 16k
- elegoo Saturn 4 16k

Can anyone share any experience with these and their ability to print fine detail?

I’m also curious about the need for proprietary resins or slicers too. Which ones are you locked in to their software/consumables?

Thanks in advance

Clarity of text on base

Did the 3d printer test (mini) by majda and got the attached results. Overall I think it’s not too bad but the biggest limitation is in the text on the base which is virtually missing. I can’t seem to find anywhere suggesting what causes this? Can anyone throw me some suggestions please?

Amiss goal approach

My son unlocked a new secret level tonight. Counted Jye’s steps back when kicking for goal and it’s 24.

Must be a very lucky number for him.

Edit: for those that didn’t realise. His number is 24.

Catalogs not showing: AIOstreams and AIOmetadata

Can’t for the life of me work out why my catalogs aren’t showing. Using aiostreams and aiometadata from luckynumb3rs suggestion. It was working, then I added more catalogs, went over 60 and broke it, so deleted it all and started again with 54 catalogs now and it won’t show them. Can anyone help please?

Recently been getting involved a lot in my kids basketball and it’s not adequately scratching the itch of revisiting my prime teenage years hooping. Can anyone recommend a casual/social basketball group (SoR ideally) for 40ish folks with fucked knees and the cardio of a wittenoom miner to throw up some bricks against similarly “talented” guys?

I’ve considered turning up to a street court for some casual 3on3 or joining a social league but worried I’ll be flogged by a bunch of 20-something hoopsmaxxing Cooper Flagg wannabes. Help?
