Sweaty fireplace opening on super hot days. Condensation on insert, how screwed are we?

Hey,
So I’m not sure if anyone can give me some ideas. But we have an older house (1960) and when we bought it the fireplace was non usable. I didn’t hear much aside from that. We noticed a draft and the opening was always closed, so we added an insert (first a wooden one) and then a basic metal insert. Seems totally fine most of the year, but on VERY hot days the fireplace opening will get sweaty right around where the insert is. It also is stinky like mildew or something.

We’ve had this house for 3 years. And there’s constantly crap happening. Having a chimney tec sweep it out and inspect it to see if they can figure out the issue. I’m hoping it’s as simple as installing a top seal damper. I don’t believe we currently have a damper. We eventually will install a gas insert.

Just really hoping someone can give me some hope that it’s not going to be a giant repair we have to tackle again.

I’ve worked masonry before in the summers (teacher) and the points look cdecent, nothing crazy.

Thoughts?

I’m assuming this crotch buckle position is too high? Anyone know how to adjust it? Graco 2-1 360.

She’s 21 lbs so too big for the infant insert (I believe) but the crotch buckle hits her belly right now not her crotch so I think it needs to be shortened? I can’t see a place to move it further back? Anyone know how to do this?

Baby responds to name only sometimes?

Hey!
So my almost 8 month old will sometimes respond to her name when called. Like whips her head around (usually when I’m picking her up from daycare and call her name). Other times, she just seems to straight up ignore me.

I THINK she knows her name and responds to it. But does seem to ignore me as well. Is this a thing for anyone else?

She also has great social smiles and loves to laugh (although not always easy to make laugh). However her eye contact can be hit or miss too. Close up face to face she’s not that into it. But further away she is.

I tend to worry about all the developmental stuff. I work with students who have extensive needs who look “typical” so my brain always goes to the worst places when I wonder about things (working on it in therapy).

Anyways anyone else have stuff like this happen?

She’s been early with all her physical milestones. Fully crawling, pulling to stand, sitting without support, and taking steps. Just started getting some good babbling as well.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced similar.

Do I need to stop my baby from overeating?

Hey!
Every time I feed my almost 8 month old girl I think of the scene from white girls where she just keeps putting back food lol.

They say babies don’t overeat, but she can put it back… should I cut her off? She will eat a whole plate…

Caregiver refuses to allow baby to feed herself. Need advice

Hey everyone,
So I’m in a weird spot where my dad (grandpa) refuses to let my daughter feed herself (she’s almost 8 months old). We had a daycare snafu and he has had to unexpectedly help with her care (not ideal).

She’s been on a modified BLW diet so far where we do a mixture of purées and certain solid foods (I have intense anxiety with feeding because I almost choked to death as a kid, but I’m working through it, I teach infant CPR and choking so in theory, I should feel confident but I don’t).

Anyways, I have upped her meals to 2x per day, and that means I’m sending her to my dad’s with a packed lunch.

He REFUSES to let her feed herself because it’s too messy. He won’t even let the food be in her reach so she can grab and self feed. She will take a loaded spoon and bring it to her mouth and does get food in her mouth. She has been doing this since about 6.5 months. She will also grab food (even purses) with her hands and eat it that way.

He says it’s “too messy and not enough gets in her belly”.

I’ve explained to him it’s not about the volume she gets in her belly, but learning how to feed herself, tasting different foods, trying textures, and introducing allergens. I sent him the literature on baby led weaning and all the benefits it has.

I told him it’s a non negotiable, he said too bad and proceeded to by spoons so he can spoon feed her, and he’s pushing me to give her Cheerios because I had them.

Idk what else to do, he’s refusing. Ideally she’s not in his care yet we are stuck for right now.

How do we know when a flare is PVC/ Afib?

Hey! So I’m curious. I’ve been diagnosed with PACs and PVCs. Sometimes I have horrible flares where they last HOURS and it’s like every few beats. Otherwise I feel pretty good most days. I have really good stretches for awhile, and I’ll have bad stretches for a week or two.

I’ve been monitored multiple times, echo multiple times, and have been told I’m fine and they’re benign.

However, my dad has Afib and has been in a fib for a long time. My grandfather also had sustained Afib. Naturally I’m worried about mine also being misdiagnosed with Afib and if I’m at risk of something happening to me?

I also have serious medical trauma with two friends dying of heart attacks under 20 years old (both athletes) so it’s hard for me to relax and stay calm.

I’m also 7 months PP and hoping I didn’t pass anything down to my baby, although I had genetic screening done.

Anyone else experience bad flares? Mine will be like hours on hours (usually when I’m trying to sleep)

Hey,
I’m assuming I’m just being crazy. And I would have known by now if it was an issue (baby is 7.5 months old). I was looking at her genetic screening and I saw SMA (spinal muscular dystrophy) was marked as present, however that’s “in range” that means she wouldn’t have it right?

You want the SMA gene to prevent spinal muscular dystrophy but the test itself has me confused, although I’m sure her doctor would have mentioned it?

I also did carrier screening and was negative for it

Hey,
Just wanted you all to know you’re doing a great job even when you feel like you’re not.

Found out my 7 month old can pull to stand yesterday when she was in the dining room (gated off area that WAS baby safe). I walked away for a second to get her food, she pulled to stand and pulled a chair right onto her face/ nose and has a giant bruise and two black eyes.

I have worked with babies and children of all ages for over 12 years, never did I think this would happen to me. However, even the most “prepared” people make mistakes.

You’re all doing a great job, even when you feel like you’re not. Keep kicking ass people. Hoping no one else deals with the chair to the face scenario.

Hey!
So my 7.5 month old has shown a pretty strong hand preference when taking a loaded spoon with food. We always place a loaded spoon to her midline so she chooses what one she grabs with. 90% or more of the time she uses her left hand. However, she will still rake foods with her right hand, pick up toys with her right or left, or both, bring things to her mouth with one or both, I don’t notice a strong preference with one or the other aside from spoon feeding.

Is this something we should be concerned about? Seems early to have a strong preference.

Has anyone else had this be a thing? How’d it work out?

Her physical milestones are otherwise a bit early. Sitting without assistance, crawling, pulling to stand, getting in and out of sitting by herself.

So I have had this darker line on my nail for awhile. Not sure how long but for awhile. I made an appt but worried it couldn’t possibly be nail melanoma… or something else harmful? Not on any other nails.

Thoughts…?

Set recline to 1 (according to directions) bubble is in appropriate spot for 3+ months. Used bottom anchors, threaded anchor straps through snug lock, tightened as much as I could. Seems okay? Any reassurance would be appreciated!

Went with the belt install so I wouldn’t have to adjust it again when she’s bigger. Seems solid. Very little wiggle room on the belt bath. Back anchor is tight and secure. Thoughts?

Idk what I’m doing, but I guess I need to vent. I NEVER had issues with my skin as a teen. Once I graduated college and started working, I discovered I could poke a tweezer into a spot and make a blackhead or whatever come out. These are the TINIEST clogged pores that are invisible unless I’m looking in a magnified mirror with a very bright light.

However, once I do this it tends to get inflamed, infected, and typically results in something that looks like a pimple. I get carried away and cause my skin to look horrible.

I’ve tried so many products and starting to realize I’m probably the problem. Once I had my newborn my skin was amazing because I didn’t have time to sit infront of a mirror and pick. Now she’s older (7 months) I’m finding myself doing my same old stuff.

How can I stop? I’ve tried hiding my mirror, making my husband hide it, etc. doesn’t work I still manage to do it. I have to pluck my eyebrows every few days so that is part of the problem.

I’ve tried sticky notes on mirrors etc. nothing helps.

Any advice…?
