any reason why vmware workstation is so much slower than player?

I just ran a real world perf study and found that workstation was 20-30% slower than player. Less responsive, and in general sluggish on my desktop system. I have quite a bit of memory, and fast nvme drives.

just curious if anyone else has experienced this and knows why.

Is it true the US is the only country in the world cup without universal healthcare???

If so that's really crazy. Shouldn't this be an eye opener for everyone in the US??

how to overcome analysis/paralysis?

I often come up with strategies and then just stall out. It's hard for me to pull the trigger. Small amounts sometimes, but when it comes to big portfolio changes I often to act on it.

It feels like a waste of time to do the investing research to begin with if I never do anything.

Anyone have insight on how to break this habit?

LPT: perfect way to open a can!

Do you ever struggle getting your finger under a pop cans tab to lift it?

SOLUTION: use your left hand finger to push the tab up slightly, then use your right hand finger to open the tab!

--

Another option as others suggested - use your right thumb to push the one end of the tab down and your index finger to pull up the tab.

--

Btw, maybe this is something everyone knows but I just learned it via trial and error today :)

--

For the people downvoting, or being insulting in the comments your quite sad. Not everyone knows this "tip" and those that do are appreciative.

anyone else feel the RTX spark is massively underperforming for the price?

I was research both DGX and RTX. They look good on paper but when you start to look at the optimization, what was done with how much data is supposed to go through the CPU to GPU link it looks like things are really quite unusual. I'm not sure Nvida has fully fleshed out the design, and done the appropriate amount of workload optimization to make this work properly. This is especially the case given the extraordinary price they are charging.

Anyone else have data on this?

is there a subreddit or list somewhere of subreddits to avoid?

I occassionally encounter really bad subreddits where the mods are draconian and ban people for the most minor of comments. I have examples of this but this probably isn't the place for name/shame.

It'd be nice to have that list so you can just avoid the subreddit altogether.

Almost thinking of a "yelp" for subreddits where people can submit reviews.

A cool guide to prophecies about the arrival of christ

Another guy posted an image like this but for whatever reason left out the labels. So here is a new version w/ labels (thanks AI).

lol downvote away. it took like 20s to generate this with AI. I was "helping" the people that wanted labels to a similar diagram. you want to critique then create your own ;0

On the pro 100/month plan and seeing a significant uptick. I could run 3-4 agents and not hit the 5hr limit now i'm burning through it much faster.

are you allowed to name/shame horrible recruiting firms?

I ran into one - the worst yet. Bunch of people instantaneously, urgently wanted my details/resume had to talk to me now. Sent the info. They wanted me to respond to some contract that they would solely represent me. I responded with some info/clarification but didn't agree to sign. Then they disappeared. Now wont respond on linkedin, or anywhere else. I suspect they are a scam firm - although they have a lot of followers.

So can you name/shame them here, and also is there anyway to report the firm to linkedin?

warning - watch out for some recruiting firms on linkedin

I learned that some of them pretend to be based in the US but their folks are based in India. They are very persistent, and nag you for information asap. Once you send it to them they disappear.

If you look up the company it might be well known, around for years. So that gives it some legitimacy. But if you go to yelp reviews, or other honest review sites you can read the truth on whether the company is legit. I unfortunately didn't take this step before sending my info.

So all - be warned. If a recruiter is persistent, rude, calling you repeatedly it doesn't necessarily mean they are interested in you for a job. Rather they want you for your information.

Have an opus bt-c2400 charger and it almost blew my AA batteries?

Per title, I've had this for about 2 years. It has worked fine. However today when I charged four AA batteries it flaked out.

After charging for about 2hours the two battery slots on the left showed null... I thought that was weird and removed them. Then I noticed the two AA batteries on the right were still charging at 400mA! I noticed the label had also bubbled and the batteries were very hot. Luckily the batteey itself had not bubbled, just the label.

This is the first time I've had a charger go haywire. I'm quite unimpressed given this opus charger was fairly pricey and is reviewed as a good charger.

Are these batteries now toast? I put them in a metal bucket outside for the day in case they decide to self combust.

Is the charger toast? I unplugged and replugged it in and it seemed to be behaving correctly.

--

Note they were NiMH batteries.

Observations and questions about the model going "dumb"

I'm really not sure what is up with Codex lately. I can have vibe coding threads where things are going great. Adding the right features, the right UI changes, etc... Then all of a sudden I make one request and the model veers off into stupid land. I cant get it back to understand what we were trying to do. It keeps making mistakes, worse than before. Stumbles everywhere.

So my questions are:

  1. Is this expected with codex? If so - what is happening and how to avoid this?

  2. I find that "high" > "extra high" does this more frequently. It will go down a path of making mistakes that just add onto each other. Is "extra high" just extra dangerous / dumb at times?

anyone successfully screened or interviewed at Nvidia?

I've talked to a number of colleagues who extensive experience in the tech industry. They have all tried applying to a variety of Nvidia jobs. Some have applied to over 15 jobs. None of them have been screened (nevermind going through an interview loop). They have applied to other FAANG jobs and have not had any issues being interviewed.

Are Nvidia job postings fake, or are they only hiring in family/friends (aka from the same village)? It seems really odd.

anyone else weary to link their finance info to chatgpt?

I really like the idea but concerned what openAI would do with this financial data. Second, if someone gets access to your account they can get read access to all of your finances. This seems like a crazy big security hole to open up to openAI.
