my favorite piece in my collection :)

I work at a jewelry store and they want me taking pictures of their pieces, but as a practice run I took some shots of my favorite specimen from my collection that I keep at my desk! I got it as a Christmas Gift from the owner of a mineral/rock store I used to work at 6 years ago and it holds a lot of meaning to me. I'm guessing it's from Queensland, don't know the mine. I've always thought it looked like a slice of cake :)

I don't know why the first picture is so saturated, I'm still getting used to this camera/lightbox lol, all I did for editing was turn up the exposure a bit.

replicas of some of my favorite historical pieces by Tematika

I think I found one of my new favorite brands! They're a Spanish company that replicates ancient jewelry, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. One of them was on backorder, but even with that + the fact that I'm in the US it only took 2 weeks for them to come in! It also came with a cleaning cloth and plenty of extra backings for the earrings.

The earrings are based on Etruscan earrings from the 4th century BC and are mainly bronze with vermeil hooks, and the originals are in the MET! The necklace is actually based on my favorite piece of historical jewelry, which is a gold foil and glass "pearl" necklace from the 4th-5th century Byzantine Empire that was meant to mimic more expensive jewelry and is currently housed at the Walter's Art Museum (which is one of my favorite museums). The replica is made with bronze and glass pearls, but I like how it has the same spirit as the original since they both are costume jewelry.

All in all I'm absolutely gonna purchase again. They have really cool stuff!!! I'd highly recommend checking them out :)

And if you're in Baltimore, check out the Walter's Art Museum! It's really a hidden gem in the DC/Maryland area and the museum is free to visit. There's also a gun shield which is the only one of its kind iirc and it's really a ridiculous feat of engineering and makes me laugh every time I visit.

who to call to help this injured/sick crow in Rosslyn by the McDonald's?

hi! I'm at Rosslyn and there's this limping crow. I don't know if it's just pretending to be hurt to get food or if it's actually injured, but regardless it's been walking around here for about 20 minutes very slowly or just sitting still for awhile. Is there any way to help at this time of night?

it may not be designer, but I got my first ever actual handbag! I thought it was time to upgrade my essanger bag

the brand is Patricia Nash! I got it from TJ Maxx. I really really really love it, I make fantasy world maps as a hobby so I thought the pattern was really cute! I feel like a big girl now haha

And I do still love my canvas bag, it fits my huge water bottle and I still plan on using it for hikes. Unfortunately I wore it so much that one of the magnet buttons broke and I don't want to bring it on the metro anymore.

balancing being an introvert and hosting a big party

hi y'all!

So we're planning on having a more casual wedding, at least in comparison to the weddings our families have had recently. Our venue is a very famous cavern (that actually gives all guests a free tour!) and is on Halloween 2027. Both of us are pretty chill with a lot of things, like if family/friends can't come because their kids would rather go trick or treating. Neither of us drink for different reasons but we'll be providing beer/wine and canned cocktails for our guests instead of having a bartender, and I want to not only bring alcohol from both of our cultures (Norway and Mexico) but highlight some local favorites too.

We're also both mostly introverted and don't plan on dancing much outside of our obligatory dances, but I do plan on having a dance space cleared out for people and a playlist for those that do want to dance. The reception is in a barn in the same area as the caverns and has an upstairs/downstairs area, and we were thinking about turning the upstairs area into an "introvert" zone with card games, phone chargers, and maybe a projector with a switch attached for Mario Kart (my little brother plays semi-professionally) and other games. I think it's important to mention that the wedding is held from 5pm-11pm because the caverns only hold weddings after hours.

I guess I'm just wondering what else I should do to make this fun/notable? Are there any immediate holes in this plan that any of you guys can see, or any tips to ground things? My family is very large and Catholic so this is a really weird wedding in comparison to what they're used to. Our dress code is business casual and we're doing a BBQ buffet so it's not really a formal wedding, but like... would this be too weird? We're still in the early stages of planning, like we only have our wedding bands and a deposit on the venue.

how to clean this pendant

hi! I have this pendant I wear frequently and the opals are looking a lil transparent. I was wondering if I would have an issue putting it in acetone because there's a lab emerald there too. it's 10ky, lab diamonds, lab emerald, and two opals. just wanted to double check here, thank you!

severe cramping after 7 months and I can't take any pain meds 😭

I have PCOS and the cramps are worse than my usual ones off birth control. what sucks is that I can't take any NSAIDs because I'm on lithium and apparently according to my last blood test I'm having liver issues which means no more Tylenol. I have an ultrasound scheduled next Tuesday to check the placement of the IUD but I can't feel the strings anymore and I'm bleeding heavier now than when it was first inserted. all around I'm having a miserable time lol

Clearance sections are the best

I needed to get another pair of shoes so I went to Macy's clearance section and got a $130 pair of Clark's for $25!! I'm so thrilled especially because I have really flat feet and everyone has recommended this brand to me but I can't afford to spend a lot on clothes/shoes. What other stores have good clearance sections? I pretty much only shop at thrift stores/Marshalls/TJ Maxx but are there any other stores you guys like, especially for shoes?

finally hit therapeutic levels of lithium!!

I'm already starting to feel better, it's like I'm slowly getting my energy back. They've been gradually increasing since January and lowering my other meds so it's been a REALLY rough adjustment. I admitted myself to inpatient 3 weeks ago and they raised my dosage to 1200mg and I'm finally at .8! each week I find myself with more energy, like my depressive episode has lasted probably 6 months now and I've barely been able to get out of bed. I'm gonna take a walk today to forage serviceberries!

I'm currently on 1200mg lithium, 7.5mg mirtazipine, and 25mg atomoxetine. Before lithium I was on a lot more meds and had to take over 10 pills a day which sucked, I'm so glad it's helping because my med list is a lot shorter.

To the woman that helped me get help for an injured mourning dove in Georgetown: It's safe now and will be released this afternoon!

It's safe now! The older couple at the house we were in front of stayed with me until animal control came, and it should be released this afternoon! They were able to take the string off of its wing. Thank you for your help!!

It did accidentally get loose in their house though but the couple was incredibly nice about that. here are some pics 😭 I did come back to work soaking wet and covered in feathers lol

at my wits end and don't know where else to vent

so I'm bipolar and am on lithium so like I understand it's hard to find a migraine medicine that won't interact with the lithium or make me manic, but it's been 3 weeks since my first neurology appointment and I still don't have any meds to help. He diagnosed me with migraines and put in an order for emgality, which insurance denied. I tried letting him know and I didn't hear anything back from him until yesterday when he called me and told me he was going to prescribe me naproxen to take every day for my headaches. When I told him I can't take NSAIDs every day because of my lithium, he told me he was going to put in an order for a different medication that's low risk that day. The pharmacy still doesn't have it and I can't find the name of it anywhere on the patient portal.

Then I had a primary care appointment today and apparently I'm having issues with my liver (I don't drink so this was a surprise), and now my primary care doctor told me I need to stop taking Tylenol. So now I can't take any NSAIDs because of my lithium, I can't take Tylenol because of my liver, and I'm still waiting on *anything* from my neurologist because now I just have to raw dog these stupid headaches every day 😭 and I'm also dealing with the aftermath of a mental health inpatient hospital visit a couple weeks ago, issues with my thyroid, and my IUD possibly shifting so this is just another blow health wise. My PCP is also worried about autoimmune issues and I now have to see a rheumatologist and God I'm so overwhelmed and over it all.

the hospital is charging me $800 for a visit and even that feels like a lot

I know it isn't a lot, I have great insurance thank God, but even $800 is so much to me. my last paycheck was around $700 because of lost wages, and I feel so stuck because I don't know how to go about this. like can you even do payment plans?

I also found out that I have another medical bill for about $600 that I thought was handled. Back in Oct. 2025 I went to a gynecologist they did a test, and the lab sent me a bill in January for $600. I called them about it and they said they put my insurance info in wrong and that they fixed it. A couple of days ago I got another bill from them and it looks like nothing changed. I'm not even on the insurance I was on when I got that test because I was on my mom's, now I have insurance through my job and there's no way they'd cover that bill.

I know at the end of the day it isn't a lot of medical debt in comparison to a lot of other people in the US, but I live in one of the most expensive counties in the US and it feels like my fiance and I are barely holding ourselves above water. if it weren't for the fact that I knew I would need the good insurance because of my disability we would have been in even more debt and I know I should be lucky, but I'm navigating my health issues blindly on $23/hour and am barely holding it together mentally. I had to tell the inpatient facility I was in that I couldn't stay for long because my job doesn't offer sick leave and I can't afford to be there, so now I'm out but still suffering mentally and trying to hold it together because this is my first full time job and it pays a lot better than some of the other retail jobs in the area.

I just feel stuck, I don't know what to do. I also have $1,500 on my credit card which again isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, I just feel so overwhelmed as I just left the hospital two weeks ago and haven't fully recovered.

I don't have much to say other than I'm in the hospital and I'm about to have an inpatient stay. almost didn't come when I needed to because my job doesn't give sick time off + rent is due soon. life sucks. I'll recover, I have enough for rent, but we're going to be eating a lot of lentils and rice when I get out.

hi! They just raised my lithium from 600mg to 900mg and I've been dealing with some nausea. which meds do you all take to help with it? I have some pepto-bismol and dramamine, but idk if those will help with nausea caused by lithium? This happened when they raised it from 300mg -> 600mg but it went away eventually, I just didn't eat much in those first few days of adjustment so I'm trying to find a better solution. Thank you!!
