Considering being one and done because of easy baby

Like the title says. Our 7 month old has been an amazing baby. Born a healthy almost 9 pounds, no health issues, just a happy go lucky little guy since he was born. I can’t imagine if I were to have another that it would be the same experience.

Pacifier use at daycare - how to approach this?

My almost 6 month old has barely ever taken a pacifier. At most, I use it to calm him down on the rare occasion that he’s inconsolable before a nap or bedtime. He’s not a baby that has it in their mouth all the time and I’d be fine if he was, but he hasn’t been. I’ve pretty much been slowly weaning the small remainder of pacifier use at home in hopes of not having to use it anymore. He did use it more previously when he started going to daycare around 3 months.

The main teacher I drop him off at daycare with was off the majority of last week and today for a family thing out of state. She’ll be back tomorrow but in the photos she puts on the daycare app, he does not have the paci. While she’s been gone, someone else has been taking care of the infants and he has constantly had a paci in his mouth in all photos and also when I pick him up. I’m fine with the usage for naps or if he’s being fussy but he’s not an inexplainable fusser and the teachers describe him as good natured.

I don’t really want him to become dependent on it as I’ve been working to get him completely off of it at home. How can I approach asking them to not use it *all* the time? I just want to make sure I’m being the most respectful when I ask because I don’t want to be *that* parent.

Is the saying “an easy going baby means a tough toddler” true?

Pretty much what the title says. I have an almost 6 month old little dream of a baby. He’s referred to by all the ladies at daycare as “good natured”. Barely cries, just a happy go lucky baby.

That brings me to ask, anyone who had a baby that was similar, did they turn out to be a crazy toddler or remain pretty easy going?

Is giving the mom a gift at a one year old’s birthday party too much?

I have my nephew’s first birthday party coming up in a couple weeks and I was thinking about giving his mom a gift, just something small in the sense of “congrats on surviving your first year of motherhood”. I had a baby 6 months after her so I definitely understand how hard it is. But her and I aren’t close so I’m wondering if it would be too much.

Edit : thank you all for the lovely responses! Like I said, we aren’t close, but I do know some things that she likes. Currently, I have ordered a medium LL bean boat tote, a scarf and bag chain to go on there, a candle, a coffee mug, and a nicer coffee syrup. Planning to get a card and a small gift card to a local coffee shop!

5 month old acne while on Kendamil classic whole milk formula

My 5 month old has been on Kendamil classic whole milk since he was 12 weeks old. It seems to agree with him pretty well, he spits up less than he did on a partially hydrolyzed milk formula (dr browns soothe pro) and he devours every bottle. Loves it. However, he has had persistent acne on his face and I’m wondering if it could be from this. I don’t put any products on his face like heavy lotions, just clean his face with a cloth in the bath. I have a pediatrician appointment tomorrow morning for an unrelated issue so I’ll make sure to bring it up then but was wondering if anyone else experienced this with their LO.

Wind down crying at bedtime

My five month old has been successfully sleep trained for a month now. I nap trained a couple weeks ago and it has gone great. Whenever I have him home from daycare or on the weekends, he goes right down for a nap in the crib with little to no fuss.

However, every single day for bedtime, he cries to wind down. It’s not wailing or screaming, just a mild cry and it starts as soon as I put him down and continues for 5-10 minutes then he is conked out for the night. When I put him in the crib for bed, he is definitely ready for bed (red eyelids, starting to fuss, proper wake window) so I don’t think it’s a matter of not being tired enough.

Anyone else have this with their LO and did it stop eventually?

PP weight loss

I’m almost 5 months PP and have been losing a ton of weight.

I’m 5’9”, pre pregnancy weight was typically 155lb. I’ve always been long and lean since high school. Gained 45lb while pregnant, was 199lb the day I gave birth at 39+6.

I *really* struggled the first couple weeks after giving birth. This is my first baby and it was such a shock to the system that I got extremely depressed and pretty much didn’t eat anything other than one snack a day for weeks because I just wasn’t hungry. I dropped 40lb within a month.

Fast forward to now, I’m on 5mg lexapro for PPA and I’m still losing weight. I weighed 145lb this morning, which I haven’t weighed since high school. My pre pregnancy jeans are starting to get a bit loose on me now. My hair is also falling out with a vengeance.

I formula feed since the lack of food in the weeks PP caused supply not to come in so it’s not from breastfeeding.

This isn’t a “my steak too juicy, lobster too buttery” situation, I feel like I’m losing too much weight? Should I bring this up to my OB?

When did you decide to have a second child?

(Couldn’t find the right flair to use)

My LO will be 5 months on Saturday.

He’s been mostly a dream baby.

- Started sleeping long stretches at around 6 weeks but the newborn stage before that was absolutely miserable

- no night four month sleep regression (only naps)

- currently on one wake up per night to feed

- puts himself to sleep in his own crib

- generally referred to by others (grandparents, caretakers at daycare) as a “good natured” baby

- only cries when he needs something

I’m not saying any of this to brag, because I know others have more struggles. But I’ve had my own struggles with PPA which I’m now on SSRI’s for. Just recently has the experience become more enjoyable for me since I was really down in the dumps for a while, constantly worried about everything baby related.

My question is - when did you decide to have another child? I hear all the time that people want another and they miss the newborn stage, but right now I’m just like??? You couldn’t pay me to go back to newborn stage.

Does this mindset go away or do you just power through it in order to give your child a sibling? Because right now, having an only child is a strong consideration of mine.

4.5 month old nearing Nuna Pipa Urbn seat limits

I have a 4.5 month old baby boy who is 99th percentile in height (27.5” at his last appointment a week ago). I have his convertible car seat - a Nuna Revv Maxx- ready to install since he’s getting close to reaching the 29” height limit on the infant seat. He’s not anywhere close to the weight limit at 15lb6oz (long and lean baby over here lol).

I was planning to switch him over at 5 months. My dilemma is, my car is scheduled to go in for service at a dealership in a month and I’ll be getting a loaner car for a few days while they work on it. Is it realistic that he’s going to grow another 1.5” in a month? Obviously if I have to install the seat in my car, take it out and put it in the loaner, then take it back out and reinstall in my car once it’s done, then I will - but ya know, I’d rather stick with the convenience of the baseless car seat until this whole car jazz is over.

I need advice

My husband and I have been together for 6.5 years, married for almost 2. We have a 4.5 month old child together. I work full time while also being the parent who takes care of our child 99% of the time. When I ask my husband to join in on parenting like giving him a bath, etc., he’s just on his phone and not engaging with the baby. Mind you, I largely did everything on my own from the beginning.

My husband has been dealing with all sorts of issues with his career. He has started his own business (driving a semi truck for himself) which hasn’t been going very well so there isn’t much, if any, money coming in from his side. I make good money for an individual but not to provide for our baby and also my husband takes out from my paycheck too when he doesn’t have money. This has been a huge source of discontent in recent months as I have to pay for daycare, diapers, groceries, gas with my paycheck and he takes out from it for stupid purchases like McDonalds or to get beer.

Anyways, he’s been having issues recently with his semi and has gone the last few days without working. I, however, had to be up earlier this morning to get up, get myself and baby ready to go. Baby woke up at 4am for a feed. I woke husband up to ask him to feed him. He gets up, goes out to the kitchen so I wait to see him go into the nursery on the baby monitor. A few moments pass and that doesn’t happen. I go out there and he’s sitting at the dining room table, I ask him what he’s doing and he immediately just flips me off. I go and feed the baby. Come back downstairs after I get him down (~10 minutes). I’m pissed at this point. Husband is back in bed sleeping. I turn the light on and tell him to go sleep on the couch. He refuses, calls me a bitch, tells me to sleep on the couch myself, and flips me off. I ask him again and he finally does leave but continues to call me names and launch personal attacks and scream at me. I slap him across the face, not hard but I just wanted him to leave. He slapped me back but way harder. I am deaf and have a cochlear implant - I took it off after he left the room. I locked the bedroom door, started crying on the bed, and did not hear him screaming from outside the door. He breaks down the door, starts yelling that I’m a deaf bitch and that this is all my fault. Absolutely screaming at the top of his lungs. It’s a miracle the baby didn’t wake up.

I messed up by slapping him. I’m not denying that. But I’m so fed up with his bullshit because he never changes. Whenever there’s a minuscule argument or disagreement, he always escalates it into something way worse than it started out as. I’m the breadwinner, the maid, the sole parent. I want to leave but I have no money saved up anymore due to this business thing going so poorly and him taking all of the savings. I have no family in the area, nor do they know the extent of anything that’s happened. What do I do. I feel so lost. I want our child to be safe. I don’t want him to grow up to be like his dad or to see something like this happen and think it’s his job to protect me.

ALSO - he literally just got done with court yesterday for road rage and is now on probation. So idk if that affects anything.

Trimming baby nails?

I have a 4.5 month old and within the last week, it’s really become a task to try and trim his nails. I use a battery nail buffer/grinder since I tried the baby nail trimmers previously and that was anxiety inducing. He’s such a wiggle worm now and is starting to grab at what’s in front of him. Any tips to share? And doing it while he’s sleeping is probably out of the question lol

Four month well visit and vaccinations

My 19 week old has his four month visit coming up this week. I plan on getting his next sequence of vaccines in the schedule. Anything I should look out for and any age specific questions to ask at this visit?

PSA: this is NOT a debate for whether or not to vaccinate MY child. I choose to trust science and doctors, please keep vaccine fear mongering out of this post. Thank you.

Baby Birkenstocks!!!

I got these little baby birk dupes when I first found out I was pregnant. They were the first thing I bought, before I found out what gender I was having. At 19 weeks old, they finally fit his little feet! He hated them though so they were off after I got a photo 😂

Four months old

He’s had blue eyes since birth, they were a bit darker but seem to be lightening up. His dad has pool water blue eyes, I have hazel/light brown. He’s also had that darker ring around his iris since birth as well

Four month old suddenly refusing crib naps

My baby just turned four months old 2 days ago and today, he’s really been refusing the hell out of crib naps. I’d usually try to get one or two in a day and he’d sleep for at least 35-40 minutes, on occasion he’d give me 1.5-2 hours. Last night was rougher than the usual one MOTN feed, woke up twice and also was up at 6:30 for the day. He’s been sleeping great overnight. and independently going down in the crib awake. I tried a crib nap for the first nap of the day, blatantly refused it. Is this the four month regression/progression!

For those who have gone through PPA, what helped?

I’m 4 months PP and have really been dealing with crippling anxiety. I’ll be calling my OB’s office when they open this morning but was wondering, if you’d gone through PPA, what ended up helping you?

4 month old and anxiety

I have a 4 month old little boy. He’s my first baby and honestly? He’s been an angel. I read other parents’ struggles on Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, etc and I’m very thankful to have been blessed with an “easy” baby.

However, it’s taken a mental toll on me. While he’s been a joy to our lives and I love him to pieces, I am constantly plagued with worries of if he’s getting enough sleep, nap times and wake windows, if I’m doing everything right. It has been stressing me out to the point where I’m constantly tensed up and I feel like I can’t relax ever.

I originally wanted 2 children before I had him and with how much anxiety I continually have, I don’t know if I can handle another baby in the future even if there was a big age gap like 5 years. How to cope with this!

4 month old daycare naps

How do working moms cope with crap naps at daycare? I know at around 4 months it’s said that babies should be transitioning from 4 to 3 naps which my little one has been doing great with when I have him all day on the weekends. When he’s at daycare during the week, he naps on demand and it’s really a wash on if it’ll be a 30 minute nap or an hour. Most of the time 30 minutes. And the number of naps, there was one day last week where he had 4 crap naps while he was there until I picked him up at 4:30 and he had his last nap on the car ride home. So 5 naps for that day. Does the number of naps count as much as how much daily they’re getting? I just keep hearing “your baby should be on this many naps and be on a structured schedule” and it feels like I’m behind.

Ferber method with 4 month old

My little boy is 4 months old. He’s really not a terrible sleeper, I don’t quite think we’re going thru the four month sleep regression yet unless it’s already passed and we didn’t notice (I know some parents say they don’t notice it). I’m going into this with the hopes of having him be able to independently fall asleep. He shows strong signs of self soothing and I have not been using the pacifier for him at all, partially because he has been increasingly rejecting it as time passes (fine by me).

I have some mom friends with babies a little older than mine who strongly suggested sleep training specifically with Ferber. This is how it’s been going so far for us and it’s been so hard on me thus far especially with trying to juggle crap naps at daycare (they only nap on demand).

Technical night one was a complete fail because I messed it up by setting him in the crib at his wake window end instead of a bit before, which resulted in him becoming extremely overtired (3 hours awake by the time I was able to get him down), so that was a wash.

Night two (one?) set him in crib awake. He laid there for a few moments before starting to cry. Checked on him after 3 min. No picking up, only verbally soothing and patting. Left after a minute. Crying again, 5 minute timer. Repeated the check in once timer was up. 10 minute timer, asleep by 6 minutes. Slept from 7:40-3:15 before waking for a feed.

Night three (two? Last night) repeated process. First timer was 5 minutes. Crying at end of timer. Check in. Then set timer to 10 minutes. Check in. Set timer for 10 minutes. He was really winding down by the end of the 10 minute timer so I let him go another minute. Was asleep by 11 minutes, 7:30. But last night, he woke up at 12 and 4 for feeds which is really out of the usual for him because he always only wakes once for feeds a night.

I try and get him in the crib around 5-10 minutes before his WW ends. His last WW is 2 hours or a few minutes over, I follow huckleberry sweet spot and it always seems to be right on with him. Should it get better? Night two & three were both the same minutes of crying but with less check ins. Total daytime naps vary from 3.5 to 4.25 hours. Wake time is 6-6:30 and bedtime is 7:15-7:30.

Mom brain

I’m 3.5 months pp. before I gave birth, I’d think I was a decently intelligent individual. Now? I feel like a fog has overcome my mind. I can’t remember where I put things, I forget a LOT, trying to analyze documents at work has become an issue especially as I’m trying to integrate into a new position upon returning from maternity leave. I feel like I’m thinking about so much but also nothing at the same time. Does this get better?
