I dunno if y'all are Tom Grossi fans but...
...I kinda love this. FOR THE KIDS! Sorry, Falcons.

Now what? No way they're gonna let me on the observation deck after that.
I decided on a different brand of goof-azz post. Who let Deshaun out to do this? Who tipped that waiter?
(To the tune of the 1960s Nancy Sinatra song)
These boots were made for walkin
Back when I was young
These boots have walked so many places
One just lost its tongue
On a related note... anybody know of affordable boot repair in Houston, intown? I still wear these almost on the daily. Still good, that tongue just finally gave up the ghost lol.
They've seen so much cool stuff in 30 years! Hiking in the Appalachians; 35+ concerts; the 2006 March on Washington; walking all over Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Austin; and several more marches I was probably too old to be doing. Also a couple milestone birthdays.
I hope to be buried (cremated) in these, because I don't have kids to pass them down to so they can enjoy how freaking comfortable they are at this point. Maybe they should take them off before they cremate me though, the '90s soles are so freaking indestructible I might burn for a week.
I was called an "alcoholic" last time I posted this, but I'm a former bartender that worked in New Orleans, and entertain a lot most days of the week because Houston people are lovely. I'm sorry that I have a lot of friends and neighbors that come by almost nightly. (I'm not actually sorry, it's a full life full of love.) I have so much backup alcohol because I entertain SO MUCH. And I can't refill the carafes weekly while working my current job.
Half of this is mixers, btw!
Can anyone recommend an under-bar storage situation that is less than 18 inches in height? And will satisfy this group's delicate sensibilities? I tried covering it with a lovely brocade cloth, but it looked like there was a body under my bar. I'm also a medium woodworker, so creativity is welcome. I just don't have the physical ability to make a large box right now that might be needed.
... The Guild Shop is always so full of GVC, Whimsicraft, and general '90s great stuff.
I would've taken more photos, but there are 70 people in there on any given day.
I'm ruined forever by that sketch. It's burned into my psyche.
Hey all, due to a recent hip injury, I haven't been able to cook pretty much at all. My friend who comes by to help around here works long hours and doesn't cook much either, so we've been getting takeout from local restaurants about 3-4x/week. My tiny kitchen absolutely cannot accommodate any more plastic takeout containers, and I really don't want to throw them away, since they're almost always pretty decent ones.
(Sorry for the long backstory, just wanted to eliminate any incoming lectures about why I need to be cooking instead, lol.)
I looked up whether there are community kitchens or other organizations that might need a donation of clean reusable containers, but the major ones I found inside the loop were either pretty vague or prefer brand new ones from Amazon wish lists. Does anyone know of any smaller or lesser known groups near the Montrose/Med Center/Midtown area that could use something like that?
S46 E8 - I made a comment on another post where I wished SNL had more sports-related cold opens because their sports sketches in general are always hilarious. This was somehow a 10-to-1, yet might have been the funniest thing in the whole episode even if you only have a basic knowledge of Newsmax making things up and the Jets being awful.
Thought I'd share some great dad moments in NFL History in honor of the occasion.
Never forget our sacrifice, Painthers
I've been a renter for 12 years, and have done as much as I can (within reason) to make my place a home in that time, because I'm not trying to leave for a long time. Recently finished the brick wallpaper in my bedroom, and put up the red wallpaper in my New Orleans bar a couple years ago. I finally dug out my original lease, and there's nothing in there that says I can't paint - i just need to paint it back before I move out, which I'm hoping won't be for at least a decade.
What color would you paint that living room wall behind the sofa? It's just way too much to try to wallpaper at this point.
P.S. My living room inspiration is Pee-wee's Playhouse, and I'm middle-aged and love it, so any hate will be ignored.
Last time every team had a 4+ rushing TD game.
I tried to just crosspost but Reddit reminded me I had to put at least a little effort into it, so I left the attribution
I used to sneak this stuff straight out of the canister. The commercial always bummed me out because whenever it was in the rotation, I knew school was starting again soon.
Trust me this is not a complaint
Just saw him at the Houston Improv, and while it was a different experience to see him doing standup instead of sketch, he absolutely killed his set. Unfortunately, he didn't come out front afterward to meet with people (I've gotten to hang out with a few SNL cast members after their shows, so I've got enough of a flex for one lifetime). It didn't matter, because that was a damn great way to spend a couple hours. I'm pretty sure he personally approved the regional comics who were his emcee and openers, too, because the whole show was loaded with talent.
Rather than just firing off jokes, he has these elaborate story setups that are kind of my favorite style of comedy, and keep getting funnier, and then he just hits you sideways at the end. I don't want to give any of it away, so all I'll say is the Tim Meadows Race Card and the story about dating an actress he worked with were two of the best bits, and the part about loving weed had to hit so much funnier in a state where it's not legal because of all the stuff he added at the end.
Anyway, tl;dr: go see Tim. Really really really worth the price.
Hi all - I promise I'll have a better post soon since I'm also carefully working on a very cool MCM desk, and will just have a question about the finish. I may also show up regarding a 1956 Drexel dining chair that needs a genius. Anyway...
I love this sofa, and don't want to give it up. It's not vintage or anything like that, but it's perfect for my living room and super comfortable. Unfortunately, two of the faux leather cushions have gone straight to hell. It's from the Todd Oldham La-Z-Boy line from several years ago.
My questions are:
Can anyone recommend some cushion covers that aren't super-cheap Amazon/Walmart/Temu stuff? I've been searching online, but it's just pages and pages of that.
I do have a sewing machine I haven't used in 25 years - might still work? Dunno - but where would you find faux leather in this kind of color? All the places for that have closed in Houston. Willing to buy online.
Do you have some bananas way that I can patch this up, even terribly? I've repaired stuff with leather glue and "leather putty" (which apparently exists and did the job on other stuff). This is way more intense than that, but I'm willing to spend a crapton of time if that's an option.
I'm generally good with furniture repair and restoration, but this one is beyond me. Thanks, y'all, and congrats to the many people in this sub that have rescued really good stuff, because your posts make me smile.
Hey all, did a search and didn't see this posted in here, so apologies if this is a duplicate. Shady stuff going down with an unauthorized sale of the land that the Frenchmen St. community garden is on. Chris Olsen has an IG reel that summarizes the situation.
The petition is at change.org/savefrenchmengarden
Hi all - my mom is going through stage 3 cancer 1,300 miles away from me, and I'd really like to record the great life stories she tells while we talk every day. I can't type quickly enough to keep up while we talk. I know there are AI services that call your parents for you and record their answers to dumb questions, but my mom is the love of my life, so that kind of cold service isn't for me.
Since I'm on an insanely limited budget ($1700 a month won't let me fly up there right now), free or low-cost apps that will run on an S22 Ultra with OneUI 8 and Android 16 - and at least allow me to download the files if not transcribe them - are ideal. Any help is much appreciated. She has so much to still put out into the world, and is not tech-savvy enough to use voice-to-text on the Google Drive account I set up for us.
