Most mythologies and cultures have stories about the Sun so it was really hard to narrow it down for this painting. Egypt saw the Sun as the deity Ra - the god of life, warmth and growth. He was often symbolized as having the head of a falcon, and as traveling in a boat across the sky.

Greek mythology see the Sun as Helios, depicted as a beardless youth with golden eyes and hair, often wearing purple robes. However, many also later related the Sun to Apollo, who is the god of prophecy, music, healing and oracles. He was picturized driving a chariot drawn by swans.

In astrology, the Sun is the Creator. It is the energy of self expression, individuality, power and joy. The Sun illuminates all that we are, projects our voice out into the world and lays out the path by which we are meant to serve our communities.

This is Sun, The Luminary. ✨

For this piece, I wanted to talk about the idea of mourning something you thought you wanted, then realised you don't want it anymore. It's the illusion that that thing would make you feel a certain way, when what you really yearned for, was the emotion itself.

In this painting, the marble statue represents her ideal she's always looked for, and her face shows realisation. Now that she holds in in her hands the love she thought she yearned for, she realises that without the warmth of emotion, it is nothing but a piece of cold marble. And so in mourning, she lets go.
