Got thinking the other day, although have always thought of this on and off. How Columbo is such a great show its become a comfort blanket.

Yes, it will be the memories of watching it as well that help. Being lucky and growing up in a safe household in the 80s and one day discovering Columbo at a weekend (I'd only ever see it on at a weekend in the UK). Columbo became a safe place. I hated school and more so high school so ended up finding comfort in certain shows.

Being in the safety of a warm home and then getting to watch Columbo. Its never worn off.

I thought of this again as was driving to one of our sites at work. Not far, about 30mins drive. Had been listening to an ebook but wanted something more comforting. Being in the car on your own already is a comfort. So with all my Columbo episodes already on my phone I start one up in VLC, put it into audio mode and headed out.

Its just nice.

Other comfort shows from growing up would be

Star Trek TNG and Voyager (enjoyed Deep Space Nine but doesn't get included in the comfort range). Voyager had started a couple of years after school and was now in college. But both get the comfort status because......the ships have carpets :o) just makes them feel so homely.

And Star Trek TNG started on BBC 2 (with no adverts) during high school years. So the Star Trek day would always been a great day as although school may have been crap that day, knowing would get to watch Columbo later helped.

I know this is a Mega Drive area, but I have a clear memory of learning how to play Backgammon on a console as a kid, and then playing it with my dad. It can't have been the ZX81 we had, I don't think. Then I've looked at the Atari 2600 Junior we had and the graphics look worse than I remember.

So was looking at the Master System that we got, possibly late 80s. But can't seem to find one on it. We eventually got a Mega Drive in the 90s but I don't remember it being on that.

Am I missing something? Can you not excluded an app on just one device? SentinelOne keeps disabling nmap. I'm the admin, so I use it now and then for work, but SentinelOne keeps removing it, despite me telling to unquarantine it. I wanted to just exclude it for one machine only, but it seems you can only just exclude the app globally.

Was out in garden doing stuff and listening to Columbo. Try and Catch Me was on. He says to Abigail that his wife is her number 1 fan. She's first in line ordering it from the library.

Pointing out she doesn't even pay for it just borrows it from the library :)

A good episode, quite like this one barring the bullfighting subject. Like Columbo, I disagree with it. Luis defence of it is piss poor "Its a difficult culture" and then comparing with two grown consenting adults fighting in the ring, innocent deer (that are shot to keep the population down) etc.

There is no excuse for bullfighting in this day and age, Luis also ignores they disadvantage the bulls on purpose. We all cheer when a bullfighter gets hit and the idiots on the running of the bulls.

Grew up in the late 80s. So for me the golden age of film was mid to late 80s, 90s, early 00s.

It still amazes me now seeing movies from 90s and early 00s and thinking they look like they could have been filmed last month. Yet, watching movies from the 70s in the 80s, they really looked dated (apart from Star Wars). Then in the 90s seeing some movies from the 80s do look somewhat dated.

But then we got to the 90s and I feel now, looking at quite a lot of them, they look like they could have been made last month.

I thought of this again the other day because I started to watched Starsky and Hutch again, the 2004 one and blew my mind its 22 years old!!!! And to think if I watched a 22 year old movie in 1986, from 1964 for it would be a massive difference. And the great film Heat, 31 years old now!!!!

I guess its just camera and film technology. That a lot may have changed but its not so obvious as it was back then.

Just amazes me and had to blurt it out to the world.

Been told we need this done, for the first time, we've never been told we needed a scan before. They want our external IP to scan the chip and pin machine. However, I've pointed out, if that's the case, they'd be scanning the whole network and not just the chip and pin machine, which I thought wasn't required.

So I was going to stick the chip and pin machine on its own network via a mobile SIM. This would be a perm setup. Problem is mobile SIMs use CGNAT so I can give them the external IP of it, but they'll never be able to connect to it remotely to do a scan, due to CGNAT.

So am I being forced to put the chip and pin on the main network (although I can vlan it) just so they can do their compliance scan? (I'd then have to leave it on the LAN because that's what the compliance scanned).

Anyone had issue with the bluetooth on these laptops? I have a weird one, with bose headphones in Windows 11. They'll be connected fine for ages, then suddenly, they'll disconnect and sound will disappear. Eventually Windows 11 sorts itself out and it all comes back.

I've got it down to being the bluetooth. Confirmed this from another odd and related issue. You'll be on battery and using the bluetooth headphones. You'll then plug in power and the issues kicks in. However, if you disconnect the headphones first, then plug power in, then connect the bluetooth headphones after, its all fine.

So its pointing to being a bluetooth issue.

So asking here as its networking so just thought someone could confirm my concern. As I asked a few weeks back about getting to a mobile network SIM, its IP. Was pointed out unless its static you likely won't be able to due to double NAT and the like.

At work I need to give a pentesting company the external IP of a chip and pin machine for security testing. So they don't hammer the main network, thought I'd put it on a mobile SIM instead. Then remembered my last question and now think this won't work for their security testing. Although it then, surely, means its slightly more secure because even they won't be able to remote and scan it?

Noticed all of my Windows installs were moaning I needed to resign in. All fine. However, I have a server at my parents, running ubuntu server. That has also logged out and appears only way to resolve is a visit. How do people get around this issue when tailscale decides to logout all clients?

Got my nephew who's there to ssh into it, talked him through all that and to check the status where it said was logged out. Got a screenshot of the login link but tried it on my laptop and got a 404 saying it expired.

So again, only option is a visit.

Yes I'm odd. Haven't worked at Waitrose in 22 years! Time flies, left in 2004. Anyway. Was Ealing branch store 187. Store took more money than was designed for so it was knocked down and new one built. I'd left by then so didn't get to experience the new store.

I was on the evening shift, which was 5pm (I think) to 12am. Came home one night, and while playing on the PC heard a faint boom. The IRA had blown up a pub in Ealing Broadway.

Came home another night, again on PC with TV on and heard the death of Diana.

Was late in one evening because on walk to work, cut through the local park that had a nursey in it. Side was on fire as someone had tried to burn it down. Called fire brigade who were close by so could hear them coming. Waited as needed to point out the idiots had also set fire to the bins in the park.

We had an idiot member of staff who started on the all night shift who asked me where all the cameras were (Making it obvious you want to steal is not wise) lied and told him there were several in the warehouse, there were none) several months later he was fired for stealing. Getting two bags of shopping but paying for one.

What annoyed about is never had a smart phone then so never got photos of the store all faced up but empty. Would have made some great shots. As we eventually got a night shift. I'd sometimes stay till 1am to help them. They'd be at lunch from 12am to 1. So I'd have the whole shop floor to myself. Taking photos then would have been great. Always found it fascinating the store being empty.

Because of my 7 years tour of duty there I now spot it in movies "They've faced up well there. Hang on, how comes all supermarkets in movies are always faced up"

I don't miss it at all but do look back with a tiny bit of nostalgia as it was when I was still young, in my 20s.

Long shot but does anyone remember the training vids with Tony Robinson in them? Was trying to find copies but with no luck.

What am I missing? I've done this just fine on a Zyxel router, granted that was hardwired and had a static IP.

This Archer is setup with a SIM card only. Not currently static (I'm looking at getting it set so, possibly). I've turned on "Remote Management via HTTPS". I've limited it so only specific IPs can connect (my static home IP).

I save, switch to my home WIFI and try to get to the routers external IP and it just refuses to connect to the remote console. Have changed it so any IP can connect, to test, still can't get to it remotely. Could it be because it hasn't got a static IP? And with it being dynamic (although it hasn't changed) the ISP is disabling remote access to devices on that SIM?

Took a few of these out of an old install we no longer needed so I took them home to learn more about Unify setups. However I have two of these that are quite dirty so thought would give them a scrub. Then realise they are tacky and its the rubber degrading. Odd considering they aren't that old, surely, for the rubber to be starting to fail.

Question is. Is there anything you can put on them the get rid of the tacky, failing rubber feel?

Not sure if the firewall on this is powerful on configurable enough to do as I wish.

So I want to setup some vlans to isolate all the IoT junk. Don't have the space to be able to cable them all back to a switch so created a new ssid that is vlanned.

I need to create a rule however that the TVs can talk from one vlan to the next purely so they can use jellyfin only, internally. And then another rule that when those TVs connect out to the internet, they are only able to go out to specific IPs and nowhere else. In an attempt to block them speaking back to LG servers.

Is this possible or this router or would you need a specialised and dedicated firewall?

So, I read this is supposed to be a verification process. So if your account is verified you get one. Well mine has been via my domain since I started the account a few years ago, yet still don't appear to have a blue tick.

Any ideas?

Sorry if its not the place to ask. But am I just not understanding how archive.org works? Going through my old files, found my DVD from college years from 2000 and backed it up. Had my lottery program on it I wrote in Pascal in 1996 while at college. The readme.txt file is painful as I was 20 but it reads like a 13 year old.

But anyway. Then found a link to my old friend's, who not seen in years, website. Stuck it in archive.org and it found it

But this is one page it claims to have archived, but you try to view it and of course it fails as the site is long gone. I thought the point was, if it shows "These are the URLs its saved" then you'd be able to view them? Is that not how it works?
