Got hired as a social media manager with no(?) experience

a mutual posted about needing a social media manager for their growing business that really resonated with me and honestly, me being sick of feeling stuck at these dead end retail and food jobs i jumped at the opportunity to be able to do something a bit more creative for work, something i can sharpen my artistic skills in the digital realm, and connect with other creatives in my community. it’s currently a volunteer position, which i don’t mind at all and i’ve enjoyed having something to do and look forward to working on. but once the business is more established that will change. i don’t have any education in marketing, only my own experience trying to market myself as a music artist. i’m excited about this but sometimes i get a feeling of stockholm syndrome. i’ve been watching youtube videos about branding and things like that, and i want to make sure i do a good job. i genuinely feel like i would be good at this, and even enjoy it a lot. it’s just a bit new to me and out of my comfort zone. does anyone have any similar experience? and is there anything crucial i should know about managing a business social media account? i welcome any advice!

melanie is not the only artist that talks about “real things”

when fans love to say they love her because “melanie is the only artist who actually talks about ‘real/important’ issues.”

i’m so sorry, as someone who used to worship the ground melanie walked on, she is NOT the only artist who has important conversations through music. and honestly, even when she tries to, sometimes it just comes off very surface level and doesn’t really add much to the conversation.

when people say this it just feels like a slap in the face to all artists who have been vulnerable in their art and really poured their hearts and souls out in their music to not only express themselves but to also raise awareness on real world events and tragedies. i guess since i make music myself, it is something im a bit sensitive to especially when i think about how many small independent musicians go unnoticed because they don’t have the same level of fame, money, or support to get their music heard. to me it just seems like, they don’t really have an ear for true, raw, authentic music and lyrics, and they only claim melanie is “the only one who talks about things” because she might have been an early introduction to serious topics (i assume most fans found her during middle school, thats when i did). i get it, some of the music sounds good and she has incredible visuals (lacking as of late but…) it’s easy to kind of fall in love with it in a way. but to claim she’s the only artist that speaks on real issues is such an absurd take, especially considering the lack of depth in her songwriting, especially for Hades, which is absolutely her worst writing yet, and it’s very telling that this is the first time she’s allegedly wrote the entire album on her own, and especially considering that the same person who wrote monopoly man to criticize capitalism, LOVES capitalizing off of her own fans with absurd merch prices and 13 different variants of the same vinyl and selling cheap ass candles separately that melt in the mail. she knows her fandom is obsessive. she sees an opportunity an she takes it, she knows EXACTLY wtf she’s doing do not play with me.

anyways that is my rant, feel free to share some of your fav artists and albums and why you like them!

Been Feeling A Bit Lost Lately

tell me about myself 😳 i’m curious and not sure how to read charts

lately i’ve been feeling kind of lost in the sense that i’m not really sure what direction to go in in my career or life in general. i’m usually very good about staying positive but everything i once thought i knew i wanted im not sure anymore. if it’s any constellation i’ve loved music my entire life and it’s what i want for my career, but i guess the reality is hitting me that it may take a long time and hard work. for a long time i was very consistent with social media but i deleted tiktok when it was sold and i think that was the turning point for me where i don’t even know if i want to play these social media games anymore with trying to market and shove my music in people’s faces. to be honest i really want to see a shift away from phones and social media and towards more physical media and real life connections, but in some ways i feel kind of helpless about that because our phones and social media are the norm. but i really would love to get rid of my phone and get a flip phone, but then i’m like, will my music career suffer if i’m not on social media? and how will i stay connected? i’m currently working on finishing up an EP project, i make music with my husband, and once thats done im looking to make CDs and maybe other kinds of merch but i also want to be mindful about overproduction as i do care about the environment. overall i think what i desire is to be free and comfortable in my life. i dont want to have to work a 9-5, and i’ve even considered moving into a van or something with my husband to not have to pay bills anymore and have more time for ourselves and our creative ventures but it seems too outlandish.

sorry if this is random lol. i an curious to know if anyone had any advice or anything at all to say. does my chart have anything interesting? it can be anything it doesn’t even have to relate to my career path just wanted to add that for context in my current situation.

what do you guys think of the g7 main 5s? do you enjoy them as much as previous generations? do you have a favorite mould? do you like their designs?

i like them all for the most part except the shorthaired cats. i traded the only g7 one i had, i honestly don’t care for them at all. there just seems something so off and uncanny valley about them, is it just me? i really hope they try to improve the mould and do better designs for them

i also like the dachshund mould but in some sets like the spa one, the head floats off the body showing the peg and it bothers me sm. it gets better in the pet pairs christmas set though, and the blind box one is perfect.

but as for the spaniels, collies, and danes i really like them. i dont really like the blue blind box dane though. but i really like the collies and spaniels and like how they decided to have the collies with one paw up

what do you guys think?

hi i really want to get into shoegaze music, the songs i have heard i really enjoy. i’m usually more into dreamy alt pop music but there is something appealing about the darkness if shoegaze and i’ve been really enjoying “if not winter” by wisp the album. love her soft vocals and how they contrast with the harsh guitars and drums. is there any similar bands or albums out there??
