Watching my partner become a better version of himself makes me want to become better too, for him.

My partner recently told me, out of nowhere, that he wanted to start going for counselling. And honestly, I don’t think I realised at first just how proud I would feel of him for doing it.

This is his first time ever going for counselling, and I think it takes a lot of courage and vulnerability to put yourself in that position and to acknowledge that “There are things about myself that I want to understand and work on.”

He’s only had two sessions so far, but I can already see how much he’s taking from them.

Every time he shares with me about his counselling sessions, he’s so reflective. He talks about things he realised about himself, how certain things make him feel, why he reacts in certain ways, and what he could do differently. It genuinely feels like he’s trying to understand himself on a deeper level rather than just trying to “fix” whatever problems he has. And I think that’s what makes me so proud.

He’s not going to counselling because I told him he needed to. He decided for himself that he wants to become better. He told me that he’s trying his best, for us, and that honestly made me so emotional. Because I can see him trying.

I don’t expect him to be perfect. I don’t even want him to feel like he has to change anything about himself for me. What makes me proud is simply seeing that he cares enough to reflect, to learn, and to keep trying.

And strangely enough, his growth has made me want to grow too. Watching him put in the effort makes me want to become a better version of myself. A better partner for him. Someone who also reflects on myself, communicates better, loves him better, and continues growing alongside him.

I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about a relationship. It’s not about finding someone who is already perfect, but finding someone who says, “i want to become better,” and being able to say, “Me too. Let’s grow together.”

We are just 2 imperfect people, both trying to become better people and better partners for each other. I just feel really, really lucky to have him. And really super duper proud of him.

breakup tea

So my ex and i have mutual friends and recently i found out that he went official with a new girl a month after i dumped him. To be clear, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with moving on. That’s not what bothers me. But the thing was when i broke up with him, he begged and cried for another chance. He asked if we could just go on a break for a month instead of ending things completely. I felt bad, so I agreed. But after just one day i decided i couldn’t do this cause he KEPT UPDATING ME about his life as if we were still together, which made me realised i wanted nothing more to do with it.

So I ended things for good.

Again, i’m not upset that he moved on. I’m just genuinely puzzled because the timeline makes me question all the begging and crying. Was it genuine in the moment? Was it just the fear of being broken up with? Or can someone truly be devastated one month and happily in a new relationship the next? Has anyone else experienced something similar? I’d be interested to hear how you interpreted it.

Also, i’m almost certain he cheated on me. My last straw in that relationship was when he accused me of cheating on him. i realised he might have been projecting on me.

Anyways, i have been in a happy relationship for close to two years now. This only came up recently because my ex celebrated their anniversary, and since we have mutual friends, it got brought up again.

Singaporeans from divorced families: Has it affected your confidence in marriage?

I want to preface this by saying I have absolutely nothing against people who come from divorced or dysfunctional families. This question comes from genuine curiosity, not judgment.

My partner’s parents are divorced, and his brother is divorced as well. Earlier in our relationship, he told me he didn’t really believe in marriage. However, over time, he’s told me that he now wants a future with me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

One thing I’ve also noticed is that he makes a conscious effort to spend time with me and my parents. He knows how close I am to them and that I enjoy spending weekends together as a family. He even takes the initiative to plan trips with my parents, which is something I really appreciate. It made me wonder whether seeing a different family dynamic has influenced his perspective on marriage and family over time.

So I’m curious about others’ experiences in Singapore.
For those who grew up with divorced parents, or have siblings whose marriages ended in divorce:
- Did it make you more hesitant about marriage?
- Did it change how much you believe in lifelong commitment?
- Or did it have the opposite effect, where you became even more determined to build a stable marriage because of what you experienced?

Likewise, if you didn’t grow up with divorced parents but later saw a sibling go through a divorce, did that affect your outlook on marriage?

I know everyone is different, and I’m not suggesting that coming from a divorced family determines how someone will view relationships. I’m simply wondering whether repeated exposure to divorce within the family tends to shape people’s beliefs about marriage, commitment, and the possibility of divorce.

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

In light of Netherlands’ first child euthanasia case. Should Singapore revisit the debate on euthanasia?

Many years ago, I watched CNA’s documentary on terminally ill children in Singapore’s Children’s ICU. It has stayed with me ever since. Seeing children endure immense suffering despite the best efforts of modern medicine made me wonder about a difficult ethical question.

With the recent news of the Netherlands carrying out its first child euthanasia case involving a 12 yo, do you think euthanasia would ever become legal in Singapore, including for terminally ill children under very strict safeguards?

Personally, I struggle with the idea that children with no chance of recovery should have to endure prolonged, agonizing, and unalleviated suffering at the end of life when medicine may be able to offer a peaceful and dignified death instead. At the same time, I understand there are profound ethical, legal, religious, and societal concerns, especially when a child cannot fully consent.

One aspect I’ve always found difficult to reconcile is that many of us consider euthanasia for a beloved pet to be a compassionate way to prevent needless suffering, yet we do not extend the same option to terminally ill loved ones. Is that comparison fundamentally flawed, or does it raise a legitimate question about how we think about compassion and dignity at the end of life?

Given Singapore’s aging population, where do you think we should draw the line? Would legalising euthanasia, even in extremely rare, tightly regulated cases be an act of compassion, or would it create risks that outweigh its benefits?

abby was a bigger POS than i expected

So on her recent igs, she replied a question of “Do you regret any decisions you made”, she admitted on using Leiya’s shoes as a bargaining tool with Alpha to get the resources that they needed and not having to vote someone out from their team.

That part wasn’t shown in the show, so basically they brought the shoes to Alpha and asked if they wanted to trade but Alpha shot them down. Abby said that in that moment they should have returned the shoes when they couldn’t be used to keep someone on their team. Instead they just brought it back, Morgan kept it up in a tree until Leiya came to ask for it back and injured her feet in the process, the day right before the final hike.

What an asshole lol couldn’t stand her every time she did one of those interviews on the show. So glad that >!she and charlie didn’t win!<.

Why is everyone in Singapore going to Shanghai this year?

Seems like everyone around me is going to Shanghai recently. My IG stories are full of friends posting from there.

I also went in March lol it was my first trip to China in more than a decade and I honestly enjoyed it way more than I expected.

Is Shanghai the new “it” destination for Singaporeans Curious if others have noticed the same thing.

Is it normal to talk about buying a house this early in a relationship (SG context)?

I’m in my early 20s and living very comfortably with my parents, so I don’t really feel a push to move out yet. I have an ensuite bedroom, a study with a balcony, basically a pretty good setup at home, so the idea of buying a place doesn’t feel urgent to me at all right now.

My partner and I have been together for close to 2 years, and we started having housing conversations around the 1-year mark. It wasn’t anything concrete at first, more just talking about the future and whether we could see ourselves building a life together.

But recently, I started feeling a bit unsure because I’m not at a stage where I feel ready to seriously think about buying property. It feels quite big and long-term, especially in Singapore where housing is such a major commitment (and tied to marriage/BTO timelines etc.). And personally, I don’t really view housing as a prerequisite for marriage.

I do see a future with him, but I’m wondering if it’s normal for couples to talk about housing this early, or if I should be pacing things more slowly. Would appreciate perspectives from people in SG or similar contexts.

Has anyone hiked both Rinjani and Mauna Kea? How do they compare?

My partner and I have done both Mount Rinjani and Mount Fuji, and we’re planning to hike Mauna Kea soon. We will be starting at the visitor center (around 2,800m) and hike all the way up to 4,207m at the summit.

Been reading mixed things online, some say it’s “easy” because you can drive most of it, others say the altitude makes it surprisingly tough.

For anyone who has done both Rinjani and Mauna Kea:

 1. How would you compare the difficulty?
 2. Is the hike from the visitor centre actually doable for average fit hikers?
 3. How bad is altitude sickness up there compared to Rinjani summit push?

We’re fairly comfortable with multi-day hikes and altitude (Rinjani/Fuji were fine for us). I also took Diamox as a preventive measure on both, which helped a lot, so I’m planning to do the same again.

Just trying to set expectations properly so we know what we’re getting into.

Rental vehicle to drive up to Mauna Kea Summit

Hi all, I’m visiting from Singapore and noticed that Big Island Jeep Rental requires U.S./Canadian full-coverage auto insurance. Has anyone from outside the U.S. and Canada successfully rented a 4WD that’s approved for driving to the Mauna Kea summit?

Would appreciate any recommendations for Jeep/4WD vehicle rentals that explicitly allow driving up to the summit of Mauna Kea. We’re looking for a company that permits travel beyond the Visitor Information Station and has vehicles equipped for the conditions. Any recent experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone else spends hours talking to their partner before drifting off to sleep?

I always spend at least 2 hours talking with my partner before we finally sleep. Every time he finishes talking, I start talking again. Then when I finish, he starts talking again. That’s how we somehow end up talking for 2 hours before falling asleep.

We talk about so many things, it’s honestly funny.

When I ask him why he keeps talking, he says he’s scared he’ll forget what he wanted to tell me tomorrow.

I don’t understand how this ALWAYS happens. Even when we went on a trip with our friends, they went out to watch a midnight movie and we decided to skip it so we could try to sleep early. Guess what? We ended up talking for hours and sleeping later than all of them anyway.

I always ask him questions, and he always gives me these super long, thoughtful answers. Sometimes, I ask stupid questions, but he doesn’t judge nor does he question me back, he just answers my questions. For context, I’m an ENFP and he’s an ENTP. We’re both natural yappers.

He’s my best friend, my safe space, and my favourite conversation partner. I think that’s one of the things I love most about us. No matter how many years, and how many hours that we’ve already spent together, we somehow always find random things to talk about.

My partner remembers the smallest things about me & I find it so endearing

So i need ketchup with basically any fried food like fish & chips, onion rings, steak, whatever. It’s a MUST for me. My bf knows this, so every time after we order, he’ll make sure i have ketchup before the food even arrives :))

i also have a huge sweet tooth, and he’ll always ask if i want dessert! The cute part is that he doesn’t even really like desserts, but he’ll still share one with me because he knows i usually won’t order dessert unless someone’s eating it with me. On our first few dates, he ordered a whole slice of chocolate cake for me and i finished the whole thing by myself TT which was honestly DIABOLICAL because he didn’t want any, and at that time he didn’t know i’d actually enjoy it more if he shared half with me HAHAHA
