Brassbound is a tabletop wargame you can play with the building bricks and models you already own.
The game is designed around two armies duking it out and supports both solo and team play. Most matches complete in under 30 minutes.
The Learn to Play scenario, Core Rulebook, and First Campaign are all free. You can buy the parts for two entire armies for less than the cost of buying a single unit from more popular franchises.
Brassbound is an alternate history story where in 1917, a science experiment gone wrong nearly leads to the end of the world. Nightmarish creatures known as the Jötunn invade the world and humans have to make titanic war machines called Brassbounders to fight them off. Humanity eventually triumphs, but at a cost. The world is now very different and humanity is split into rival factions. Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn takes place a generation later when tensions between those rivals reach a boiling point, following a second Jötunn invasion.
Brassbound is a fast paced skirmish game
There is nothing worse than showing up to play a game, only to realize you've lost before the first dice has been rolled. Brassbound isn't like that; the game plays quickly so you can fit several games into an afternoon. Players show off their armies, then take turns activating one unit at a time until all units have activated or passed, completing the round. The game plays over six rounds and then the winner is determined. If the game is getting lopsided, reach across the table to shake hands with your opponent and simply restart. You can get back to playing within minutes! The core rules are one page long and easy to learn. The complete rules are simple and clear, you don't need to spend your time reading back through appendices to understand how things work. Instead, you'll learn by playing the game:
All measurements in the game are based on the dimension of the basic plastic building brick. Three color-coded rulers make measuring distance and range a snap.
Line of Sight is simple, clean and unambiguous; if a line can be drawn between the center of the unit and the center of the target without hitting anything that would provide cover, then you have Line of Sight.
The stats are simple and clean, and there are no modifiers to add. Instead you simply add and remove dice from your pool.
Dice rolling is intentional. One roll to hit, one roll to wound. Combat resolution involves both players.
Tracking wounds is easy; a unit is at full readiness, wounded, or destroyed. That's it.
Unleash your creativity
This game is all about using what you have. Your bricks, your models, your ideas. Guidance is provided on creating the battlefield, but people have the most fun when they contrive their own setting. Step-by-step building instructions and parts lists make recreating the models in the rulebook a snap though you can also use the Unit Creator to devise your own custom units. Some keywords and characteristics are intentionally included, but not used, on the standard models to encourage you to make your own!

Hello everyone,
As I think you all know, I'm getting close to publishing the second Brassbound campaign, World War Jötunn. I've gotten a ton of really helpful feedback; thanks to all who contributed. So that I can raise money to support more from this community, this will be my first piece of content that is not free. However, I am giving away a free copy to anybody who wants to help me review it before I publish.
In parallel, I've started mapping out what I want the next update for Knights of the Air to look like. As always, I would really love your input.
Lastly, my focus over the the next few weeks is going to shift a little bit from content to promotion. With that in mind, I'm scheduled to be interviewed for the Tell Me About Your Game podcast this weekend. It's a really cool community of independent game designers, and I think you're going to like it.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to share with you some exciting updates in our community:
Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn - the next Brassbound Campaign, dubbed World War Jötunn, is ready for testing. To help raise money for more artwork, I do plan to sell it for a small price once it's done. I'm giving away free copies to all who help me edit it before publication. To get yours, just let me know you're interested in testing.
Brassbound Solo Mode - thanks for your help and input. I will be publishing v3 of the Solo Mode shortly on my itch page. You can get it for free here: https://brodadbrickworks.itch.io/brassbound
Knights of the Air - the most current version is 0.80. You can get it for free here: https://brodadbrickworks.itch.io/brassbound-knights-of-the-air
That's all for now,

Hey folks,
One thing I always wonder is "what happens to these great builds you all share after you post them?"
I mostly build physical models these days, and mostly they sit on my desk for a few weeks.
As I make more models, I run out of room on my desk, and the older ones get moved to display shelves.
Eventually, because the cat knocks them over and they break or because I want a part, they come apart. That's usually the beginning of the end.
When I do finally decide they're done, they go into my "reclamation bin" where I scavenge them for parts before fully breaking them down.
What do you all do?
I'm particularly interested to hear from some of the more prolific builders who post every week.
Shared with permissions. I really like both the colors and model designs. It's very evocative of an alternate 1920s and I'm here for it.
Knights of the Air is a free two player air combat game that you can download for free. The game is in active development and includes five scenarios, rules and building instructions to get you started.
Hello everyone,
I'm very close to releasing the second expansion for Brassbound; World War J. It features new missions, new units and a whole new way to play the game.
I'm looking for a few people who can commit to reading through the rulebook and giving me at least 3 suggestions / recommendations for changes.
Let me know if you're interested?
I've got a couple of sets of these guys and they're great. This is a good price for what you get.
Hello everyone,
I'm considering trying my hand at making a playable version of Brassbound within Tabletop simulator.
I will almost certainly need help, as my 3d modeling skills are non-existent, but I've got all the rules and images ready to go.
If you're interested in helping out, drop me a line?
Thanks!
At the dawn of the fourth millenium, the children of Sol have returned. Having left Homeworld when it was a thriving cornucopia of culture, science, and technology, what is left can only be described as a dystopian hell. We lost communication with Homeworld now several generations ago, and ever since then, the United Colonies have been putting together a Crusade to save the birthplace of our civilization. We arrived too late.
Homeworld is not what we remember. Vast deserts stretch across the middle latitudes; consuming both cities and wilds alike. While we are receiving radio traffic, the global Hegemony seems to have broken down, replaced with rival bands each claiming legitimacy over the same territory. To make matters worse, spectral analysis is consistent with the steady state existance of multiple rifts, on every major continent. The local biomes have adapted to match; becoming more alien than not at this point.
Our initial landing parties were met with hostilities by the locals. Surprisingly well armed for their primitive technology, they were not interested in diplomacy or exchange. Our survey teams sent to investigate the rifts revealed only garbled communications about Xenos; without specifics or survivers returning to tell the story.
The planet is now ours to pacify and heal. But where do we start?..........
Hello everyone,
Man, what a week. This week I get to celebrate a few updates with you.
Firstly, I'm delighted to announce the release of Knights of the Air 0.80. It features more artwork by the fabulous Dolar, more stories, and a new mission. Special thanks to Michael and Nicholas for their play testing feedback. You can get Knights of the Air v0.80 for free here:
I also feel comfortable enough with the "solo mode" for BAD to publish a draft. You can find that here: https://brodadbrickworks.itch.io/brassbound/devlog/1498901/who-needs-friends-anyways
What's next? Well I've got a two week work trip coming up, so I don't anticipate much time for model building. I plan to spend my free time fleshing out the new BAD campaign. Man these things take a long time!
Anyhow, that's all for now. Thank you all for your continued support.
Paul
This build is a story-driven one. Sometimes I'm aiming for "rule of cool", but when it comes to models I want to include in my story, they have to fit into the larger narrative.
With that in mind, I wanted to make a "first generation Brassbounder" taking design cues from early tanks. In my setting, the very first Brassbounder is made by the Renault company in 1919 and was deemed an engineering marvel. Though it also proved a logistical challenge.
I wanted to make something more pragmatic, that would reflect someone looking at the Renault design, and thinking "well I can do away with this, and that's unnecessary, and this part here is just stupid"...
So with that in mind....
I wanted to make the torso more consistent with my B-34 I posted on Monday
Making the B-34 sprue yesterday brought me back. The B-34 isn't my best model, but it is one of my all time favorites. It's not the coolest. It's not the most articulate. But it's inexpensive, easy to build, and stands up well on the table.
And yet, I find myself continually wanting to tweak it. Today's build is one such attempt..
First, locate the appropriate sprue. Second, assemble and glue the model. Third, prime and paint!
This is your weekly Brassbound Universe update.
You asked, and I answered. We have a draft "Solo Mode" rulest for Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn. You can find the draft here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BrassboundUniverse/comments/1sm6iwd/brassbound_solo_mode_play_testing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Feedback is very welcome.
In parallel, I continue to make progress on Knights of the Air 0.80. I had a moment of clarity this week around giving each of the four aircraft types a "specialty" that helped me get past a mental block I've been struggling with for a few weeks. The release date is probably still a few weeks out, and I think you'll like the new version a lot. As usual, I'm trying to find a balance between waiting forever to release what I consider a worthwhile update, and getting something into your hands.
Lastly, friendly reminder about our monthly meetup, this Sunday, at Atomic Empire in Durham, NC. We'll plan to start around noon on Sunday, April 17th.
That's all for now,
Paul
