It's probably all post-processing (but at least they got the aspect ratio right), but I think this is the aesthetic that everyone here is trying to achieve. Learn from it!
Ok, I'm biased because I'm a '90s kid and I liked Sublime in the '90s, but the new Sublime album is amazing. (long story short: the son of the man who founded the band back in the day joined the old mates together and made a new album that is an amazing tribute to his dad, the times, and the music).
How that relates to our hobby is that the official music video to the best song on the album is shot in the style of '90s camcorder footage. If you look closely, you'll notice where 21st century effects are used, but if you just ride the wave of nostalgia, you'll enjoy the video.
It's got the hallmarks of what everyone (most people) here are trying to do: fisheye lens; bloomy highlights; film grain (yes, yes I know); sprocket holes and frames (again, I know); lo-fi colors; interlaced footage; no one on their cellphone, and vibes.
So, did anyone else get the new Sublime album? Did you see their throwback video? Did it inspire you? Negative Nellies, take a walk off the Long Beach Pier! 😂
