Learned that new job expects employees to use PTO on the big 5 holidays

I started a new job I was really happy to get. The pay was good and the same work as my previous job, just a bit farther in distance. I was excited that it was nonprofit despite the other one and had a union.

That excitement turned into annoyance and this is my second week of being here. I since learned that while the nonprofit part stood, the union is not that good. They made a deal with the company that required employees to have to use PTO on the 5 big holidays. One of them being Memorial Day.

I can’t use PTO till 90 days of employment, which I was fine with since I’ve dealt with that before. So I asked what I do and they said I would have to go on lwop (leave without pay) for that one day.

I thought to myself…Ok. I‘ve never not been paid for a holiday before. In fact at the old company I got paid time and a half for working on holidays.

So I decided to accept two job interviews for jobs I’ve applied to previously and they reached out this week. If they offer me something and the pay is right I’m writing a heavy detail to HR and everyone I know there as to why I’m leaving so suddenly.

The interviews are on Monday. Which I’m grateful I was allowed to schedule them on that day since it’ll make the day off worth. Wish me luck!

Found out about audiodrama’s and just kept on walking!

Yesterdays steps. I don’t usually do this and usually only get 4k from work then eat & sleep when I get home. I found out about audiodrama’s recently and started listening to one. I can’t listen just sitting so I decided to go to walk with the encouragement of this subreddit. I’m gonna do this again today after work! Maybe even more steps. I wanted to keep going. I have a beautiful trail right next to me as well.

Literally the perfect day… I love being a DINK especially on the weekends!

I (27f) and (26m) moved in together about a month ago after our one year. We maybe in the honeymoon phase of living together but it’s been great! We are staunchly childfree (he won’t even pick up his own nephews lol), and petfree as well. So that means the only things we have to take care of is each other.

Last night (Friday) we decided to take melatonin to pass out at 8pm since work was tiring for us both this week. We slept in together till 12pm with cuddling. We watched two movies together and got pizza. Then went our separate ways and his now playing video games and I’m doing my favorite - scrolling Reddit and reading my book.

Sometimes the comments about “he changed his mind” worry me, but the fact that he won’t even pick up his own nephews and hardly interacts with them at all (though he loves his family) makes me know his serious. His been actively looking into vasectomy too.

I’m just grateful for this current life I’m living. And if things change in the future I know I can be independent. I have a great career as a social worker that’s fulfilling and profitable, but it’s nice to have a partner and we all deserve that!

Greetings!
I (27f) want to start traveling outside of the country I’m in. I feel comfortable going to surrounding countries like Canada by myself. However, I have had a dream to go to Copenhagen for years now. The only thing holding me back is not having someone to go with me; and feeling uncomfortable to do so alone. I know there’s host families for foreign exchange students - but are there some for people traveling?
