Can this be addressed? Small ding right on strike edge of lip plate.

Hello. I found myself a very nice flute at the thrift store for $50, a Pearl PF-771, silver body. I know, I'm still in shock.

It has a few quirks, though, the worst of them (far as I can tell) is a tiny dent directly on the strike edge of the lip plate. Is this of any concern? I feel like it may occasionally present as a subtly scratchy sound on an otherwise beautiful instrument. If so, can this be remedied, presumably by a professional, in any way?

If not, I was wondering, the head joints on flutes are interchangeable, correct? If so, does it have to be a Pearl headjoint?

Thank you for reading my post!

This thing can be used as a lousy ipod with awesome album art display (MM+). Truly terrible audio quality though.

Found three silver dimes cashiering this week

Which is unusual because it's been months since I've seen any.

How I fixed diagonals on my Game Boy Color dpad (OEM)

I noticed my GBC was missing most diagonals (hard to walk diagonally in Zelda, difficult to shoot diagonally in Contra, etc). I tried loosening the Phillips screws holding the motherboard in place without much luck, so I placed the dpad on an index card and cut it to shape. So, basically, a piece of index card with a hole cut in the middle for the rocker dome behind the dpad, cut to shape to give it some height and assistance in pressing the pads down. Now, the dpad is much more responsive and diagonals are easier.

I cannot stand dishonest people

And I can't believe how common they are. You'll see two people talking with each other, and one of them will just fabricate events for rhetorical convenience, not even for any personal gain or stakes on the line.

Some of these people walking around out here serve only to confuse and muddle, for no good reason.

So... Y'all have beater flutes? 😳

My instrument is a part of my lifestyle, so I'm picking it up and putting it down 20+ times every day. Realistically, I don't want to be washing my hands and giving it a thorough swab and closing its case up each time. So, I've got an old Gemeinhardt M2 I got off Craigslist for $75. Got its tolerance is tight enough to be playable. And I just, leave it out open air for most of the day... It generally air dries within a few minutes of me setting it down, so I only give it a thorough swab every couple days.

The tarnish on it is outlandish after roughly a year of this but it plays nice for its age. I am going to learn how to disassemble it so I can give it a good alcohol wipe without risking the pads; I've tested in a small area and my alcohol wipes take the tarnish right off. If I fail and break something, I've been educated at a bargain price, and I will try again until I have the skill.

Hits low C no problem, doesn't rattle, pads aren't sticky, nothing like that...

Highly recommend having a good flute you don't really care about!

The OG GBC screen isn't THAT bad. You just have to be realistic about where you can play it.

Residual moisture after swabbing instrument?

It seems like no matter how thoroughly I swab the instrument, when I look down the headjoint, I can see a small amount of moisture at the back, on the edges against the backstop ("cork"?). Should I worry about this at all? Is it safe to close the flute case like this? I've been letting it air out for ~15 minutes or so after swabbing and before closing the lid. Am I just not doing a good job and need to change my care technique, or is this normal?

No /dev/fb0 in Fedora Workstation 44?

I recently got the idea for fun I'd like to try making a simple graphical app in a tty with fopen writing to /dev/fb0 directly, as I remember back in the day you could write urandom to it to fill the screen with garbage. After failing to turn some pixels white as a test, I realize /dev/fb0 doesn't actually exist. Has it moved?

I read something about "KMSCON replacing FBCON" but I'm not entirely certain of the implications of that. Has this something to do with that?

They already have your location. They don't need your permission.
