Wi-Fi AP placement for a new G+1 house I’m building a G+1 house in Kerala and planning the networking during construction.

I’m not planning to build a homelab — I just want reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house, on both floors.
The main router will be in the ground-floor living room, and I’m planning to run Cat6 Ethernet to the first floor for a second router in AP mode.

I’ll also have Ethernet points in the home office.
Where would be the ideal location for the upstairs AP based on the attached floor plan?

Any suggestions for the simplest, cost-effective setup?
Thanks!

Why do most architects recommend matte/semi-matte flooring?

This is just my observation, but I’ve noticed that houses around ~2,500 sq ft featured by architects tend to use matte/semi-matte vitrified flooring, whereas larger 4,000–7,500 sq ft mansions seem to use a lot more Italian marble/polished flooring.

I’ve noticed this across Buildofy, Volume Zero, YouTube tours, and even a couple of rich relatives’ homes xD

Just curious, is there actually a reason for this difference? From an architect’s perspective, which would you recommend for a house in general, and why?

Would love to hear from architects!

Is getting 3D interior visualisation worth it for a very minimal/budget home?

Hello!

Guys I’m building a home near sullia,I’m in my 20s, first time builder and currently building a home for my parents, so I’m trying to be fairly budget-conscious.

The structural work is almost done, and I’m planning to keep the interiors very minimal. The main fixed interiors would probably just be a modular kitchen and wardrobes in the bedrooms. Furniture can mostly be movable/locally made.

I had discussed this with my architect beforehand, so we’ve already provided enough electrical points in the ceiling for lighting. I’m thinking of using those directly and avoiding false ceilings as much as possible.

I’m also not interested in elaborate wall panelling, ceiling designs or too many decorative/architectural elements. I basically want a simple, calm and neat house.

Where I do need some help is choosing things like paint colours, flooring, wood/laminate colours, furniture colours, curtains etc. so that the entire house looks cohesive rather than everything being chosen independently.

Would it be worth getting the entire house 3D visualised before finalising these things?

Or, since the interiors are going to be this minimal, would a moodboard/colour and material palette + reference images be sufficient?

Vibe I’m going for something like this - https://youtu.be/-9VhV2SW9WU?si=-RsxIPl7loOoNlBH

Would love to hear from anyone who has managed their interiors similarly on a budget.

Affordable curtains for a new home? Amazon/IKEA/DMart recommendations? (India)

I’m furnishing my first home and just got a quote for custom curtains… and I’m honestly shocked. 😭
The starting price I was quoted was **₹200/sq ft** (including stitching), which comes to a much bigger number than I expected.
Initially, I wanted something like the photos below (simple sheer curtains with a clean look), but now I’m happy to go with budget-friendly ready-made curtains if they still look decent.
A few questions:
Where did you buy your curtains?
Any good options from **Amazon, IKEA, DMart, Home Centre, or local stores**?

Should I go with **curtain rods or tracks**?

Are **pelmets** worth it or should I skip them?
My requirement is roughly:
**4-bedroom house**
\- 3 bedrooms: **4 curtain panels each**
\- 1 bedroom: **2 curtain panels**
\- Living room: **3 sheer panels**
\- Dining room: **2 sheer panels**

Total around - 19 to 20 curtain pieces according to my calculation.

Planning to hang them **just above the windows** (around 7–8 ft high), not from the ceiling.
Looking for light colours like beige, off-white or linen.

I’m based in **Kerala**, but I can also shop in **Bangalore** or **Mysore**.

**What would be a realistic budget if I buy ready-made curtains instead of custom ones?** Also, if you’ve bought budget curtains that still look premium, I’d love links or brand recommendations.
Thanks! 😊

Is a window needed in a pantry/store room in Mangalore?

Hi everyone,

I’m building a house in Mangalore and planning a small pantry/store room next to the kitchen.
Given the humid climate, is a small window recommended?

Have you faced issues like dampness or musty smells without a window?
Would love to hear your experience.

Thanks!

Best way to reduce traffic honking noise in a rental apartment with aluminium sliding windows?

Hi everyone,
I just moved into a ground-floor rental apartment, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to reduce outside noise while sleeping.

The apartment is **not directly facing the main road**, but I can still hear **vehicle honking**, especially when it’s quiet at night. It’s not extremely loud, but it’s noticeable enough that I’m worried it might disturb my sleep.

The windows are **aluminium sliding windows**, and they already have a **black rubber/brush seal between the two sliding panels**, so I’m not sure if adding weather stripping would help or if the existing seal is already doing its job.
Since it’s a **rental**, I can’t replace the windows or make permanent modifications.
Has anyone dealt with something similar?

I’m looking for practical, rental-friendly solutions such as:
Weather stripping or replacing the existing seals?
Blackout or acoustic curtains?
DIY removable window inserts?
White noise machine or air purifier?
Anything else that actually worked for reducing honking noise?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions from people who’ve had success with aluminium sliding windows in a rental.
Thanks!

Can I just complain about Mangalore–Bangalore trains for a minute? 🥲

I know, I know, Western Ghats. Tunnels. Curves. Gradients. Physics. Engineering. I’ve heard all the reasons. 😭

But it still hurts that Chennai–Bangalore is roughly the same distance and gets a ~5-hour Vande Bharat, while Mangalore–Bangalore is still an 8–10 hour journey.

Meanwhile, Mangalore has Vande Bharats to Kochi and Goa, but not to Bengaluru.

This isn’t a “why don’t they just run one?” post I know the route is incredibly challenging. I just wish the geography had been a little kinder to us. 🥲

Planning a walk-in wardrobe, opinion needed

Walk-in Wardobe space - 11.4 \* 8.6feet

**Option 1:**
Use the entire 8.6’ wall as a full-depth wardrobe (2’ deep).
Keep only a mirror in the walk-in.
Move the vanity/dressing area to the bedroom.

Option 2:
Two side wardrobes (7’ long × 2’ deep)
End wall (8.6’ wide × 1.5’ deep) as a dressing wall with:

3’ full-height mirror
Shallow storage/display cabinets
Counter for perfume, skincare, etc.
Window opposite the mirror.

Which layout would you choose and why? Does Option 2 feel more like a luxury dressing room, or will it look too boxy compared to maximizing wardrobe storage?
Any ideas or inspiration are welcome!

Need help designing wardrobe interiors – who should I hire?

Hi everyone,

I’m building a 3BHK and currently planning wardrobes for two bedrooms.

One is a **walk-in wardrobe** for me (28F) - walk-in Wardobe space - 11.4 \* 8.6 ft
The other is a **built-in wardrobe** for my mom, who has a large saree collection - bedroom - 15.4 \* 12

I’m looking for someone who can help with **internal compartment planning** (drawers, shelves, hanging space, saree storage, bags, etc.) based on our actual needs not just the exterior design.

Who would be the right professional for this? An interior designer, wardrobe specialist, or modular wardrobe company?

Also, what kind of budget should I keep aside just for the wardrobe design/planning (excluding the actual wardrobe construction)?

Any recommendations or experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!
