AirSync over Android Hotspot Without a Shared Wi-Fi Network?

Hey I’m using AirSync to mirror/connect my Android with my Mac, but it requires both devices to be on the same network.

The problem is that sometimes I don’t have access to Wi-Fi, so I use my Android’s hotspot to connect my Mac. But AirSync doesn’t seem to detect the phone properly over the hotspot.

Is there any way to make this work without connecting both devices to a separate Wi-Fi network?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wix vs Next.js for a Simple LMS?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to decide between Wix and Next.js for building a simple LMS for a YT Channel

Some admins prefer Wix because it’s faster and easier to build, has drag-and-drop, lots of extensions, and would be easier for beginners to maintain later.

The LMS would mainly have student accounts, courses, YouTube unlisted videos, quizzes/questionnaires, progress tracking, and a basic admin dashboard.

I’m leaning towards Next.js because of the flexibility and control, but I’m wondering if it’s overkill for this project.

For a LMS that needs to be maintained and expanded over time, which would you choose: Wix or Next.js? And what limitations should we consider with Wix?

I don't know if I'm actually depressed or just really sad, and I don't know what to do

Hey, I ended up here because I honestly think I need some help figuring out what's happening with me.

I'm an undergrad student, and around six months ago I became really close friends with a girl. She's older than me, and we were just friends, nothing romantic. She's also a lesbian, just mentioning that because I know people might assume something else.

She had been dealing with depression and some other difficult stuff, and I was there for her and tried to help her whenever I could. We became really close over those months.

But we haven't really talked for about six weeks now because of some issue between us. I don't really want to get into the whole story, but losing that friendship affected me way more than I expected.

I was already pretty lonely before I met her. Even when we became friends I wasn't exactly feeling great mentally, but now it's gotten much worse.

At first after everything happened, I basically isolated myself from everyone and was just really sad. Then I started keeping myself insanely busy. I work/study almost nonstop now because if I'm doing something, I don't have time to sit there and think about how I feel.

But now I'm just completely drained.

My head feels like it's constantly burning from thinking too much. Sometimes my hands shake and I feel really cold. I feel empty and I don't really enjoy things like I used to. I have very little motivation, and sometimes I just feel like I'm living in hell.

And this is probably going to sound weird, but sometimes I actually want to make myself feel sad. Like I want to watch sad videos, sit there and think about everything, and just cry. I don't know why. It's almost like I want to suffer for a while instead of trying to distract myself from it.

I'm not planning to hurt myself or end my life. I want to make that very clear. When I say I want this to end, I mean I want this painful mental state to end. I'm just really tired of feeling like this.

I've taken the PHQ-4 online and it came back suggesting that I might have depression/anxiety, but obviously I know an online test can't diagnose me.

It's been around six weeks now, so I'm starting to wonder if this is actually depression or if I'm just going through a really bad period because of loneliness, losing someone I was close to, stress, etc.

I keep thinking that I should see a doctor or psychologist, but I honestly don't know how to start. There is a university therapist, but I don't really want to go to him. I already know him and from what I've experienced, I don't feel like he'd be very understanding of what I'm going through. So I'd rather find someone outside the university, but I don't really know how that works either.

And honestly, I'm kind of tired of talking about this. I don't really want to sit down and explain my whole life story to someone. I just want to understand what's happening to me and what I'm supposed to do next.

So yeah, I guess I'm mainly asking people here:

How do you actually know when you're depressed and not just really sad?

Is six weeks of feeling like this enough reason to get professionally assessed?

Should I see a doctor first or directly find a psychologist/therapist?

And if you've been through something similar, what actually helped you get out of it?

I'm not looking for Reddit to diagnose me. I just genuinely don't know what's happening to me anymore and I need some direction.

Built a free, open-source hot corner launcher for macOS (LaunchCorner)

Hey everyone,

Apple removed the Launchpad hot corner shortcut in recent macOS updates, and a lot of third party alternatives lock hot corner support behind a paywall or subscription.

I made LaunchCorner to fix this. It’s a simple, free, and open source utility that lets you launch any app (like LaunchOS, Launchpad alternatives, or standard apps) just by moving your cursor to a screen corner.

What it does:

  • Instant 0 ms hot corner response (with customizable dwell time)
  • Built natively for Apple Silicon (SwiftUI, super lightweight)
  • Full multi-monitor support
  • Runs quietly in the Menu Bar and closes cleanly

GitHub & DMG Download:

Would love to hear your feedback or any feature suggestions!

MacBook Air battery life improved on 27 beta 4

after updating my m4 Air to mac os 27 dev beta 4, my battery life has genuinely gotten better.

For context, after the initial 27 update it was actually worse than tahoe. But since beta 4, it's lasting noticeably longer than before, even for a dev beta.

Anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? Wondering if Apple actually addressed something with power management.

Arc browser + Apple Password Manager issue -extension keeps resetting

Hey, so I’m using Arc on my Mac, and I rely on Apple Password Manager for fingerprint‑based autofill. Since Arc doesn’t support Apple’s built‑in password autofill directly, I’m using the Apple Passwords Chrome extension (you probably use it too if you’re on macOS).

https://preview.redd.it/l5ls78665cch1.png?width=764&format=png&auto=webp&s=edd407063206a0e7945f975fe85759cdfd5d911b

But for some reason, this extension keeps restarting. Every time I quit Arc and reopen it, it asks me to enter the pairing code again. It’s annoying because I have to re‑authenticate the extension every single time.

Is there any better way to integrate my passwords with Arc while still using Apple Passwords for syncing? I want to keep everything inside the Apple ecosystem, but this constant reset is driving me crazy.

If anyone has a fix or workaround, please let me know.

MacBook M4 keyboard stops working after logging into macOS 27 Developer Beta 2

Hi everyone,

I'm having a really strange issue with my MacBook M4 (2024) running macOS 27 Golden Gate Developer Beta 2.

The keyboard works perfectly on the login screen, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. As soon as I log into macOS, almost all of the keys stop working.

Here's what I've observed:

- All letter keys (A–Z) don't work.

- Number keys don't work.

- Arrow keys don't work.

- Function keys (brightness, volume, etc.) work normally.

- The Power button works.

- Fn, Control, Option, and Command keys work.

- "Command + Space" opens Spotlight, but I can't type anything into the search field.

- Caps Lock still works.

Things I've already tried:

- Restarted the Mac several times.

- Checked Accessibility keyboard settings (Mouse Keys, Slow Keys, Sticky Keys, etc.).

- Checked the keyboard settings but couldn't find anything unusual.

One important detail: I updated to macOS 27 Golden Gate Developer Beta 2 about two weeks ago, and everything was working fine after the update. This issue only started suddenly today, so it wasn't triggered immediately after installing the beta.

I haven't installed any new apps or changed any keyboard-related settings before this happened.

Has anyone seen this before? Could this still be a beta-related bug, or is there something else I should try before reinstalling macOS?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to fetch data from a protected SharePoint Excel file for automation project

Hey everyone, I’m working on an automation project for my university schedule and I’m stuck at a super annoying part. Our uni publishes a 4‑month semester calendar as an Excel file on SharePoint. The link is always the same, it’s publicly viewable, no login needed, and you can freely download it.

I’m trying to build a live, reliable automation tool that fetches the latest data and syncs it directly to Google Calendar. The problem is: every time I try to fetch the Excel file programmatically, SharePoint’s “protected file” behavior blocks or redirects the request, even though the file is technically public.

I tried multiple methods, different languages, direct URL fetches, etc. Nothing works consistently because SharePoint keeps interfering.

Right now my workaround is:

  • manually download the Excel file
  • upload it to Google Sheets
  • use Google Apps Script to push updates into Google Calendar

It works, but it’s not “live” and not reliable enough for automation.

Has anyone figured out how to fetch a public SharePoint Excel file without getting blocked? Or any trick to get the raw file URL so I can automate the whole pipeline?

Looking for a note taking app with handwriting style text + page backgrounds

I’m looking for a free or open‑source web note‑taking app that:

  • has handwriting‑style text
  • looks like writing on a notebook page
  • works in the browser on macOS
  • not for ipad
  • simple, clean, and minimal

Basically typed notes that look handwritten on a paper‑style background.

Helakuru no longer works on macOS 27 - built on Rosetta, needs update

Hey everyone, just wanted to share this in case anyone else is facing the same issue.

I’m using Helakuru for macOS, and after updating to macOS 27, the app completely stopped working. It looks like the current Helakuru build is still running through Rosetta, and with the latest macOS updates, Rosetta support seems to be breaking or behaving inconsistently.IBecause of that, Helakuru doesn’t launch or function properly anymore on macOS 27.

U know they have the web version, but the native app is way better for workflow. It’s faster, smoother, and fits perfectly into the macOS typing flow

If you rely on Helakuru for Sinhala typing on Mac, you might run into the same issue. I’ve already emailed the Helakuru team asking them to update the macOS version (preferably a native Apple Silicon build), and it would help if more users could report it too so they prioritize the fix.

If you’re also affected, consider sending them a quick message so they know it’s not just one user.

Building a University Timetable → Google Calendar Sync: Stuck on SharePoint Automation

I'm building a project that automatically converts university timetables from SharePoint Excel files into Google Calendar events, and I've hit a wall with SharePoint automation.

Current workflow:

  1. The university publishes the timetable as an Excel file in SharePoint.
  2. I manually download the Excel file.
  3. Upload it to Google Drive.
  4. Convert it into Google Sheets.
  5. Use Google Apps Script to parse the timetable data.
  6. Generate and update events in Google Calendar.

This prototype actually works.

The problem is that the university updates the timetable regularly. Every update requires manually downloading the new Excel file and uploading it again, which defeats the purpose of automation.

My goal is to create a fully automated system where:

  • A student provides a SharePoint timetable link.
  • The system automatically fetches the latest timetable.
  • Detects timetable changes.
  • Updates Google Calendar automatically.
  • Works even for non-technical students without requiring manual Excel downloads or uploads.

Things I've already tried:

  • Microsoft Graph API
    • Had authentication and permission issues because I don't control the university's Microsoft 365 tenant.
    • Couldn't find a reliable way to access the file consistently.
  • Power Automate
    • University restrictions and permissions prevented a practical solution.
    • Didn't seem suitable for a product that should work for any student.

Current challenge:

I need a reliable way to automatically retrieve updated Excel files from SharePoint when I don't control the SharePoint environment.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone built something similar with SharePoint-hosted files?
  2. Is there a reliable way to monitor a SharePoint Excel file for changes without tenant-level access?
  3. How do services like timetable sync tools handle frequently changing SharePoint documents?
  4. Would you continue trying Microsoft Graph, or is there a better architecture?
  5. Is scraping/downloading the file from a public SharePoint URL a reasonable approach, or is there a more robust solution?

I'm interested in hearing both technical and product-design perspectives because the long-term goal is to make timetable synchronization completely automatic for non-technical students.

Tried contributing to an open-source Swift project... but I can't even build it because it requires macOS 26 SDK at least.

So I tried contributing to an open-source GitHub project that's written in Swift. It doesn't require Xcode to use, but the codebase itself is SwiftUl. I redesigned part of the Settings Ul and wanted to test it before opening a PR.

But here's the problem:

After I made my changes, I can't build the project at all. Xcode keeps throwing errors saying I need macOS 26 SDK minimum to build it. I'm still on macOS 15 Sequoia, and the maintainer is already using APls from the macOS 26 SDK.

The project uses newer SwiftUl stuff like:

• GlassEffectContainer and glassEffect

These APIs don’t exist in my SDK, so Xcode refuses to build or preview anything. I get that building the full project might require the newer SDK, but I’m wondering:

Is there any way to preview or explore the UI without having the latest macOS SDK?

  • Can you preview parts of the UI on older SDKs?
  • Is there a way to temporarily “downgrade” or stub out newer SwiftUI APIs just for preview purposes?
  • How do contributors who don’t have the latest macOS/Xcode usually inspect UI changes?

I feel like this is a common issue when maintainers jump to the newest SDK immediately.

Do you guys run into this too, and what do you usually do in these situations?

Any advice would help. I just want to contribute without being forced to upgrade my whole OS just to preview a couple of SwiftUI views 😅

I want to do more cool stuff with my computer - any ideas ?

Hey everyone, I’m a CS major and I’ve realized that most of my coding is just for classes, not for fun. I feel like I’m not using my Macbook to its full potential, and I want to start experimenting with cool, creative, or slightly nerdy projects. Things like Telegram bots, automation scripts, networking experiments, terminal tricks, or anything interesting that teaches me something new. If you’ve done any fun side projects or have suggestions for things to try, I’d love to hear them.

Does macOS Sequoia get the new Liquid Glass design in Raycast too?

macOS Tahoe still seems pretty buggy, so I’m staying on Sequoia for now.

I saw the new Liquid Glass style changes in Raycast and was wondering, do Sequoia users get that redesign too, or is it only available on Tahoe/newer macOS versions?

Hey everyone,

I’m a computing student currently exploring ideas for an AI-based solution that could be useful in colleges or even local communities. I’m still in the early “trying things out” stage, so I’d really value honest opinions and creative suggestions.

One simple idea I had was an AI-powered lost & found system, something smarter than just notice boards or group chats. For example, using image recognition, descriptions, or even pattern matching to reconnect people with lost items more efficiently.

But I’m not sure if this is actually something students would use, or if it solves a real enough problem.

So I wanted to ask:

  • Do you feel colleges actually need more AI-based systems like this?
  • Are there everyday problems on campus you think AI could realistically solve?
  • Any ideas (big or small) you think are worth exploring?

I’m not looking to build something “fancy”, just something genuinely useful.

Appreciate any thoughts.
