Would you buy a vehicle with multiple minor damages on Carfax?

Looking at a used car that has two separate “minor damage” reports and one “very minor damage” report on the CARFAX. The rest of the history looks good with regular maintenance and most of the scheduled services done at the dealership.

It’s not a rare car, but it’s a pretty specific spec, so there aren’t many for sale. Of course, this one is also the best priced and happens to be the color/spec I want.

Would the discounted price make it worth considering as long as I get a good PPI, or would you avoid something with multiple damage reports because of possible headaches later?

Saving around $4-6K in price so it could offset any future repairs as well...

It would be a second/weekend fun car that I plan on keeping, so resale value isn’t a huge concern. Curious what you guys would do.

Windshield protection with small chip?

Just bought a used 2022 Model 3 in very good condition and recently found out about Tesla’s $16/month Windshield Protection.

I saw in the fine print that the windshield has to be free of any cracks, chips, or pits to qualify, so I went out to check mine and noticed a very small chip/pit. It must have happened on my drive home because I didn’t notice it during my inspection when purchasing the car.

For anyone who has gone through the Windshield Protection inspection, how strict are they about tiny chips/pits? Would something very small automatically disqualify the windshield?

The pit is not in my line of sight and is very small.

Weird high-pitched squeaking/electrical noise coming from TV?

My TV has recently started making this weird high-pitched squeaking/electrical noise whenever it’s on. I attached a video where you can hear it.

It seems like the sound is coming from the TV itself rather than the speakers. The TV otherwise works normally no flickering, shutting off, or other issues. And it lasts a good 10 minutes or so but eventually goes away when the TV has been on for a while.

Is there anything I can troubleshoot or fix myself, or is this a dying TV?

It's a 65" TCL 65R635 model

Any help would be appreciated!

Best tip for wind noise?

Just picked up a used 2022 Model 3 and I’m loving it so far. My only issue is slightly above-average wind noise coming from the front windows at highway speeds.

It’s not crazy loud, but definitely noticeable once I’m on the freeway. Has anyone found a simple DIY fix for this? Window calibration, adjusting/reinforcing the seals, weatherstripping, etc.?

Let me know what you’ve tried and what actually worked!

Tesla mobile charging from garage door outlet?

I have a private apartment garage with a 120V GFCI ceiling outlet that the garage door opener is plugged into. Can I also use it for my Tesla Mobile Connector?

It automatically charges at 12A. Should I lower it to 8–10A since I need to open/close the garage door while charging?

I’m renting, so installing a dedicated circuit isn’t an option. It would be plugged in almost every night. I know it’s slow, but the car is parked there anyway and I didn't realize there was an outlet until I saw the one in the ceiling, so I might as well get some extra charge.

The apartments are newer (2020+), so the wiring shouldn’t be old. Would you run 12A or lower it to be safe?

First time having Costco membership, benefits?

I just got a Costco membership for the first time and went with the basic Gold Star membership. I mainly signed up to buy food in bulk and save some money by meal prepping, but I’m curious what other benefits people actually use that make the membership worth it.

What's your favorite perks, services, or deals I should be taking advantage of besides buying groceries in bulk?

Also, is upgrading to the Executive membership worth it? I know there’s a 2% reward on qualifying purchases, but I’m not sure how much I’d realistically need to spend for the higher membership cost to make sense.

Would love to hear what other frugal Costco members use their membership for and any tips for getting the most value out of it.

ULPT: Free apartment EV charging?

Looking at get a used Tesla for my commute and had a question.

My apartment charges extra for a detached single car garage. Each garage has a standard 120V outlet that the garage door opener is plugged into. The garages can be rented by any resident and I already rent one. I don't think they're individually metered to each apartment?

Hypothetically, if I plugged a Tesla Mobile Connector into that outlet and charged every night:

  • Would the electricity usage be noticeable enough for management to see?
  • Are detached apartment garages usually individually metered, or are they often on a common meter?
  • Would they realistically know which garage was using the extra power?
  • Has anyone actually done this long-term without management noticing or saying anything?

Just curious as this would be my first electric vehicle

High temperature warning Tesla mobile charger

Very new to EV ownership, I've only had my Tesla for a few days

I have been using the Tesla mobile charger on a standard 120v wall outlet and first 3 days I've had no issues then today I see this warning

Could this be an issue with the mobile charger or is it a faulty outlet? It is a Tesla gen 2 mobile charger but I bought it secondhand and it has some wear and my garage is a newer build so leaning towards the charger being at fault

Best tint percentages for Model 3

M235i vs M240i

In the market for a F22 m235i or m240i

I know the B58 is widely regarded as one of the best and more reliable then the N55 but by how much? Is the N55 that much worse or it's still very good?

This would be a daily driver car and spirited weekend driving but I'm not tuning or wanting to push crazy numbers. No major performance mods

Knowing this, does this narrow the reliability gap?

A 2016 m235i is 10 years old now so is it still a good buy if miles are fairly low like 60-80K miles?

Any input is appreciated

Do dealerships really need car salesman in the future?

I'm curious if the future of car dealerships will be more automated like Tesla?

Everyone hates the whole car buying experience and dealing with sleazy salesman. It feels like the traditional dealership model is becoming less relevant. Years ago, salespeople were valuable because there was room to negotiate. Now almost every dealer advertises their best price online, and buyers compare dozens of listings before ever walking in.

The last few cars I've bought, I already knew exactly what I wanted and what a fair price was.

With financing, trade-ins, and paperwork all able to be completed online, why do dealerships need 10 salespeople?

Could the buying process eventually become more like Tesla, Carvana, or CarMax, where you simply choose your car, complete everything online, and pick it up?

Or is there something I'm overlooking that still makes the traditional dealership model necessary?

Used Tesla Model 3 Long Range vs Standard

I'm looking to replace my commuter with a used Model 3 (2021–2023). My commute is about 50 miles round trip, and this will be my commuter only, I have my fun sports car for weekends, so I'm mainly looking for the best value to rack up miles.

A few questions:

  • Is the Long Range worth the extra couple thousand dollars on the used market?
  • I don't really care about AWD, performance, or sound system. My biggest priorities are range, convenience and price.
  • Anyone buy a Standard Range and regret not getting the Long Range? Or vice versa?
  • I rent, so I'll be charging from a standard 120V outlet at home since I can't install a Level 2 charger. Does that affect my decision?

The used price difference doesn't seem that big, so I'm wondering if the Long Range is the better buy in the long run. I'd appreciate any real-world experiences.

Thanks

High mileage

Considering a m240i and I found the perfect spec but it has 101,000 miles

Too much?

I know the b58 is very reliable but should I trust it?

It does seem very well kept

Complimentary warranty in 2026?

Do all Carvana cars get complimentary warranty still in 2026?

So online it says that Carvana's complimentary warranty is a 100-day or 4,189-mile limited warranty administered by SilverRock, accompanied by a 7-day money-back guarantee.

I just purchased a used 2021 Tesla Model Y, picking it up this weekend and I only knew about the 7 day money back guarantee but didn't see any official wording anywhere on the purchase agreement or on the website on the 100 day/4100 mile warranty

Window tint for the sunroof

Taking delivery of a 2021 Model 3 this week and the first thing I'm doing is tint. I live in Las Vegas, so heat is definitely a concern.

I'm planning on tinting the side windows and rear glass, but I'm undecided on the glass roof.

For those of you in hot climates:

  • Did you tint the roof or just buy one of the collapsible sunshades
  • What percent tint for the sunroof
  • Is roof tint actually noticeable in reducing cabin heat, or are the shades enough
  • If you tinted it, would you do it again

Trying to decide if it's worth the extra cost or if I'd be just as happy with a removable shade. Curious what other Model 3 owners have experienced, especially anyone in Vegas, Phoenix, or other desert climates.

Carmax/Carvana vs dealerships?

I'm planning on buying a used car in the next few weeks. I've always bought from traditional dealerships, so this would be my first experience with either CarMax or Carvana.

I always come to the deal with my own pre-approved financing, so financing isn't really a factor.

A few questions:

  • Which do you prefer, CarMax or Carvana, and why?
  • How do they compare when it comes to vehicle condition and the quality of their inspections?
  • Is the CarMax MaxCare warranty actually worth it?
  • Anything you wish you knew before buying from either one?
  • Would you still recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection, even though they inspect their vehicles?

I know traditional dealerships usually have more room to negotiate, but it seems like most dealers now advertise their best price on used cars, so there often isn't much negotiating anyway. Has that been your experience?

Thanks!

Rick Chow vs South Carolina details

Been seeing this case everywhere and lots of misinformation due to the racial tension

Just want some things clarified

  1. Chow had multiple incidents (2 or 3) in the past of shooting suspected shoplifters at that gas station. Does this not play into the case? Showing he was maybe too trigger happy?
  2. What was Cyrus' background/history? Was he around wannabe gang members? Committed petty crimes before? It's hard to picture a 14 yr old boy walking around illegally with a loaded gun as completely innocent.
  3. Who was the registered owner of the gun Cyrus had? Was it stolen? Not sure why this wasn't brought up in the case either
  4. The verdict was not guilty mostly due to self-defense, correct? So you can claim self-defense but also be the aggressor to a degree? If I go up to someone and antagonize them and be "threatening" and they pull out a weapon in fear but I pull out mine too and shoot them, that's still self-defense?

Getting wood cut at Home Depot

I need to make a simple large canvas frame and need

3 x 80"
2 x 60"

If I buy 5 of the 1x2x8ft wood, can I have them cut 3 into 80" and 2 into 60" for me?

So 5 cuts total, is this fine to ask them?

Any hacks to cooking in small apartment without setting off fire alarm?

We only have windows on one side of the apartment (opposite side of the kitchen) and our fire alarm gets set off almost every time we want to sear

Anyone have a hack or tip? Like a portable fan that sucks up the smoke maybe?

Mounting shelves on wall shared with shower

Looking to mount some floating shelves on drywall with drywall anchors in the entryway of my apartment and directly behind the wall is a bathroom and shower where the shower head is

I'm a basic DIYer so I'm a little hesitant as I don't want to accidentally hit any pipes

Any tips?

Do pipes generally run close enough to the wall that it would even be a concern? Do they run behind studs?

I have a basic stud finder but I'm also worried what it says is a stud might be a pipe
